Private Room/Bath Close to DC Metro

House - Private room · 8th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20011, United States

3rd floor bedroom with PRIVATE bathroom/shower. Modern townhouse, close to DC Metro. Wi-Fi/TV in room. Walk to restaurants/shopping. Street parking available. Kitchen/fridge available to share.

We have a friendly, well behaved dog (Belle) who loves people but will not be in your private space.

The Space

Cozy third floor location offers awesome privacy. Tons of storage space if you need it. Two big windows with adjustable "black out" blinds so you can choose to "let the sunshine in" or snooze late in comfortable quietude. Third floor has it's own climate control. Adjacent room great for a yoga mat or two. Full closet with all the hangers you'll need. Comfy reading chair and a selection of books and movies to enjoy.

Guest Access

You can roam the whole house and share our great kitchen, fire up the grill and enjoy the front porch or backyard at your leisure. Plenty of room to store food/drinks. Whip up an espresso or a hot cup of tea.

We are keeping our bedroom, bathroom and office on the 2nd floor private.

Interaction with Guests

We're new at this, but our intention is to be available to the extent our guests are interested in hanging out. Happy to share our experience with the city, where and how to go, what's new, what's old and good, who's playing where, etc.

Most likely we will be around during our guests' stay but will make sure everyone has the space they want/need to get the most out of their stay.

The Neighborhood

Petworth is a great mix of quiet residential and happening new eating and shopping experiences, all within walking distance of our home. We are very close to a Capitol Bike Share stand and about 3 blocks or so from a Zip Car station. The Metro is about a 7 minute walk which will get you most places in the city in 20-30 minutes.

We love DOMKU. Scandinavian/Eastern European fair in a cool, funky environment (1/2 block away). CHEZ BILLY is a French bistro with a nice lounge. The PETWORTH CITIZEN is a brand new restaurant about a 1/2 block away as well, featuring pub food. QUALIA COFFEE is our favorite local coffee shop. They roast their own beans in a funky, laid back setting (Hipster alert!).

Rock Creek Cemetery is about a 20 minute walk but it is totally worth visiting if you're into amazing, historic cemeteries. Many, many interesting 'guests', huge vaults and monuments. DC's oldest cemetery (I think!).

Getting around

Super convenient location to access all types of public transportation. 7 minute walk to the DC Metro (Green/Yellow Lines). From Reagan International it's a straight shot on the DC Metro Yellow Line to the Georgia Avenue/Petworth Metro Station which is just minutes from our house. Dulles and BWI are more complicated but we can help figure that out if you need us to.

Convenient Bus Stops within minutes. Capitol Bike Share 1/2 block away and Zip Car about 3 blocks away.

Parking is not included but street parking is typically available and we have 1 guest car pass for use.

Other Things to Note

We have a well behaved dog who will be an enthusiastic part of the welcoming committee but will otherwise give you your space (unless bribed with a treat). The Room is located on the 3rd Floor which requires walking up 3 flights of stairs. This is probably not suitable for anyone with any ambulatory difficulties. Our house is not "Child Proof"

  • We loved our stay at Chris and Jean's place. I had great experiences with Airbnb but this trip was by far the best. Jean went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and their dog, Belle, was the sweetest dog ever! There is so much to compliment them on, I really don't know where to begin and end. DC is a great city but Jean, Chris, and Belle made D.C. a whole lot better. I can't wait to go back and visit again~

  • Jean was great host. We felt in her home like in ours ones. I'm highly recommending to everybody to visit them if you're looking for great, kind and very open mindet hosts. Thanks again so much :)

  • Jean & Chris airbnb apartment can be compared to a 5 star hotel ;-)
You get one floor just for yourself (2 rooms) - and they look even better in reality than on the photos. You can also find some maps & guides in the room and will get a metro card.
Besides that you get nice breakfast and snacks in the evening (American style - so cornflakes and stuff) each day. The visitor parking pass is very useful - we parked just in front of the house.
The location is good (ca. 5-10 min walk from the subway) and feels safe.
The dog is very friendly and extremely well behaved.

Can't really think of any disadvantages. We would totally recommend it to everyone.

  • All reviews are absolutely accurate - Chris and Jean are perfect airbnb hosts. I arrived from Australia late in the evening. Jean made me a platter to take upstairs to my 'suite' - just in case I woke in the night - which, of course, I did.
Convivial conversation with Washingtonians was very helpful and welcome.
They went above and beyond by driving me to my next destination the following day. They should be awarded the highest honour by airbnb.
Hopefully I can return their hospitality at my Victorian, Australia, airbnb.

  • Staying with Chris and Jean was like staying at a bed and breakfast, but better. This was my first time staying as a guest through airbnb and I was somewhat nervous. I was also very tired after flying all day across country. Chris and Jean were gracious and welcoming. I hadn't eaten dinner and they served me cheese and crackers and fruit which satisfied me until the next day. Their guest room has a comfortable bed with a reading light and a television, everything was very clean. In the morning, I was served a continental breakfast. If I return to DC, I would definitely stay with them again.

  • This is my first time staying with Airbnb and I'm impressed a lot! At first I tried to find a place to stay for sightseeing with my mom after a conference. I'm scared to dogs and have allergic rhinitis to dust. I saw that they have a dog but they have very good reviews so I contacted them before booking and they responded very quick and while I was there, they kept their dog away from me. Their room was very clean, modern, well decorated just like the pictures they post in Airbnb. They also allowed us to use the other room in the same floor as a living room. They provided us good breakfast including bread, cereal, milk, juice, egg and fruits! Their muffins were very delicious. They also provided tea, coffee and water which were available all the time. They allowed us to use their kitchen which had quite full options. Everything was well prepared.
Christ and Jean are very nice, kind, generous, and flexible person. I had unexpected event so I asked whether I could go and put our luggages at their house before 3.00 pm. They allowed me and welcomed us very well. They showed us the map and provided us Metro card. My mom and I got lost the first day. Finally I decided to call Jean and Christ came out to find us but luckily I figured the way out already. On the last day, Christ also recommended me an app to book a transportation from their place.
Staying with them was great and we had a wonderful time like staying with a family. If you are looking for a place to stay in DC. This is the place that I would recommend!

  • You will not find nicer, more welcoming hosts than Chris and Jean. They're happy to sit and chat if that's what you want but they'll also give you plenty of privacy. Their home is lovely and very comfortable. We were visiting our daughter and a friend who live nearby - Chris and Jean welcomed everyone into their home and offered complete use of their kitchen and living room. While the location was ideal for our visit they're just a few easy blocks from the Metro so you have ready access to the whole city.

  • Our stay with Chris and Jean matched all the rave reviews that others have given them.

  • Chris and Jean were excellent hosts, and their house -- and in particular the room we stayed in -- was very comfortable. We also had access to a room down the hall where we could sit and relax. Chris and Jean were very welcoming, and made us feel comfortable in their home. A great place to stay.
