About this listing
Centrally located in Washington DC and the heart of historic Mt Pleasant, this design award winning worldly home is for Scandinavian design and African art lovers. A haven for families with kids who will love the 3rd floor ball pit and Legos galore.
Our 100+ year-old historic row house is located in vibrant Mt Pleasant close to everything DC has to offer: Rock Creek Park and the National Zoo are our next-door neighbors, the White House and National Mall are app. two miles down the road.
Our house has an ideal setup for families with kids who want to explore DC, but be able to relax like they were at home and let the kids hang in the playroom with toys, books, wii games or a splash in the ball pit. The artful kids room sleeps two.
The master bedroom has a kingsize bed, the loft-bedroom has a queen sized bed and the study has a pullout queen sized bed.
The kitchen is especially enjoyable for those who want to cook - it was recently awarded a design price.
We are an allergy prone family – non-smoking and pet-policy are therefore non-negotiable.
While we enjoy Scandinavian design and African art, we are focused on functionality and nothing in our house is too precious. It's the place to hang your hat and put up your feet after enjoying everything that DC has to offer.
We speak Danish, Swedish, English, German - and try us in Portuguese!
Additional photos are on our architects home page: (URL HIDDEN) - ours is rowhouse C.
Toys, books, internet, tvs, wii, dishwasher, washer/dryer, outdoor spaces, gourmet kitchen, porches. We do not keep anything off limits for guests.
We are close to tennis courts, soccer fields, playground, national park (Rock Creek) and shopping.
Ask if you have any special needs and we'll seek to accommodate.

Interaction with Guests
Please feel free to contact us with any detailed questions.
You can contact us at any point during your stay, but we will not be on the premises. Should you need any help while you are visiting you can call or email - for emergencies we have a home manager who can assist at very short notice (and can fix stuff).
Mt. Pleasant is a diverse and vibrant neighborhood. We love that we can walk everywhere and wouldn't actually need to get out of our small neighborhood for anything. Weekly farmers markets, a fantastic coffee/bar (Flying Fish), Latin food, Asian Food (Beau Thai + Korean gem), Pizza, Organic grocery (Each Peach), regular live music/events, the famous Heller's Bakery and lots of small Latino groceries.
There are 44 restaurants within a 15 minute walk; our favorites are marked in our guidebook.
More on the neighborhood here: (URL HIDDEN)
Metro is 12 min. walk (Green/Yellow), busses ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)) are all around the corner (you can get to the house from any of the area airports using public transit). Mt. Pleasant has a 88 out of 100 walk score on the walkscore website and 84 on access to transit.
If you want to stay fit, try the city bikes which are located both at the zoo and on Mt Pleasant St. There are excellent bike lanes and the terrain has steep hills for those who want to seek out a challenge.
If you arrive in a car, there's plenty on-street parking.
Access to the loft area (playroom and queen size bed) requires using steep stairs that are original to our 100 year old house. If you are not comfortable with these or unable to access the area, we will make toys and wii available on 1st and 2nd floor. However, we are not able to move the ball-pit that is in that area or the bed, wherefore you shouldn't book our house for the full 8 person capacity if you think this may be an issue.
Please leave the house as you received it and let us know if you have trouble accessing any services. We want you to enjoy our home as much as we do.
Note: our cleaning fee includes linen-wash and general housecleaning - we assume you don't want to spent your time vacuuming!
Please no pets or smoking, we are an allergy prone family.
Originally from Denmark, living in Washington DC, but work in Africa. Needless to say, our house is often empty, yearning for someone to put it to good use. Our house has won a design award for the renovations of our bathroom and kitchen - 102 years old, there are always new updates.
