Kitchen
Guests often search for this popular amenity
The largest of the four huts, it’s a cottage really, and the most remote. If the Clothes optional, especially with the sauna fired up! It has a hammock and facilities and equipment for simple meal preparation. The hut has shutters and can be made cosy and dark. An open fire for ambience and the antique finnish wood stove doubles as a sauna and for radiant heat and cooking

The space
It has a double brass bed with moderately firm mattress. Guests sometimes ask about this but there was no way of getting a queen bed into the hut without tearing down a wall! Hut Amenities include private living and garden area, outside bush bath, chilly bin cooler, glassware cooking and eating utensils (No electricity - Candles only but a little solar for playing cards It is completely private but it is 100 yards from your car and private bathroom. Despite this, it's a favourite for all sorts of reasons, some of which have been hinted at!

Where you’ll be

Akaroa, Canterbury, New Zealand

Your host has a boat shed near French Farm on the other side of the harbour at Jones Bay. For guests staying this can be a great spot to drive over to and open up and have a swim, read or look for fossils on the beach at low tide. It is not permitted to sleep overnight there, and it is best visited early in the day when there is plenty of sunshine.

Walk-track Mecca Akaroa has become famous for its variety of walks …easy to hard …short to three days …completely on your own….or buy food and drink along the way….in the bush or along coastal paths ….private and pay a fee…such as the deservedly famous Banks Peninsula Track …or free and just buy a map brochure…or free and don’t get a brochure and just head out for a walk! There are a number of walk tracks starting and finishing at the door One of the most popular tracks is the Woodills Track that goes north or south to the village cross country and the new Curry Reserve Track that traces the headwaters of the Grehan Valley Steam to the site of the Antarctic explorer Frank Worsley’s first childhood home. The information centre in Akaroa has photocopies of all walk tracks in the area for a small fee.
