About This Listing
Away from marina's and traffic. This is a nice, peaceful and relaxing time on the water! This is not land based. This is camping on the water a half mile from land, with lots of amenities. Come enjoy the serenity!
Free Spirit has a small galley with a two burner stove, toaster oven, bbq, cooking utensils, pots and pans, dishes and silverware. A/C and generator. Two double futons with throw pillows and blankets. Bed linens and towels. Large coolers. Two upper decks one with a picnic table and one with lounge chairs. Small head (toilet).
This is the perfect getaway to explore the beautiful pristine waters surrounding Key West. There are very few places to camp in the keys and this is my answer to outdoor enthusiasts who like to get away! Or this can be a nice peaceful place to stay away from it all..with a 15 minute kayak paddle to one of 3 marina's and bar and restaurant.
Guests can park at Cow Key Marina. Persons and gear will be transported to the boat with a 24' skiff on the day of check-in and you will be picked up by boat on the day of check-out. Check-ins are best done during daylight hours.
Kayaks are included. The kayaks are your only transportation for the duration of your stay, so be sure kayaking is something you like to do! Also since you are not on land it's important that you know how to swim.
Interaction with Guests
When we arrive at Free Spirit I will show you how everything works on the boat and leave you with kayaks. You are on your own to enjoy your time on the water. I'm just a phone call away if you have any questions.
If you want to jump on the skiff with me and get to one of our remote Islands for the day let me know.... Or just save time for my mangrove maze tour....I'm told it is truly AMAZING! If there is something I don't do....I know who does. When sending me a request Please tell me a little about yourself and why your choosing Free Spirit.
I love watching the dolphins coming to play, watching the baracuda's chasing bali hoo and relaxing on the upper deck watching the sunset turn into a star filled night! I love the feeling of being out and away from it all. Waking just before sunrise and going kayaking and taking it all in. Trust me our sunrises are just as amazing as our sunsets.
There is parking at Cow Key Marina. Its a short cab ride from the airport. Want bikes, scooters or electric cars? Call me and I will arrange for you.
Other Things to Note
The houseboat is a half mile from land. It is not in a marina......Again this is camping on the water...You will need to bring food and ice and anything else you might bring when your camping that I have not listed...... Myself or my crew will do everything possible to show you the best the keys has to offer! Our goal is that you say " wow what a great trip!!! "
Well its always been a house rule of mine....you break it you buy it....your credit card will be held responsible for any damages. If you drink...drink responsibly. If you smoke....smoke outside and again smoke responsibly. No ciggy butts or any trash in our pristine waters please!!!! Unfortunately no pets are allowed.
There's pretty much nothing I can say that is negative about staying at this location. The people who own it are amazing, kind, friendly and helpful. Anytime we had an issue or question they were right there. the boat was amazing with outstanding views and kayaking around to get food, drinks or just explore was perfect! I hope to be able to go back and stay again soon! And I would highly recommend this place to my friends and family!!
A.J made both Pete and I feel like we were meant to be there. The wind was a perfect natural air conditioning since the weather outside was heating up. We tried sleeping on the hammock on our first night to sleep under the stars, we were up there the majority of the night until the wind really picked up and it was a bit too cool for us and our new burnt tans. We couldn't be any more happier with the host, A.J, and his friendly team of employees down at the cow key marina.
It was truly a camper's paradise sur la mer =) We both would totally love to do this trip again for a few extra days. we recommend it
The Houseboat was the peak of my vacation. We really enjoyed it. Thanks to AJ for everything :)
Description is accurate. AJ is a great host. He knows the area and will help you find local food and fill you in on the area. Boat is clean and comfortable. There is now a hammock on the top deck that is quite fantastic. My stepson and I saw a Manatee swim right next to the boat and around the front one evening. Sunsets are fantastic! Kayaking to and from the boat was peaceful and beautiful. We took took tours with AJ/Renata: the Mangrove Maze and Snorkeling at the reef. We recommend both highly. AJ/Kayak Kings are conscientious and honest.
Man! What a freaking awesome trip. BIG thanks to AJ and Kayak Kings for making this an experience of a lifetime. We stayed on the boat for 4 nights. The description of the boat is dead on. It's not tent camping, however, not Trump Towers either. AJ was more than accommodating. If we needed something, he was right there. One of the days, we called spur of the moment to go into town...he dropped everything to come pick us up...and took us back out. AJ is a great guy with much knowledge of the area. This trip was fanfreakingtastic!
I wanted to do something memorable and relaxing for my 30th birthday, so I took a solo trip to key west and spent my last three nights on "Free Spirit." It was fantastic. AJ and Natalie were very friendly, as was everyone at the marina (and they have key lime pie on a stick!). The boat is very comfortable and has everything you need from good radio service, comfortable beds, marine toilet, propane stove and running water (though bring your own ice and drinking water!). On the breezy nights I slept inside, but also spent one night on the lawn chairs on top! Kayaking to and from the boat is pretty easy (you're with the current going back to the boat, which makes it quite nice if you're out past sunset and just want a nice paddle back "home"). I made food on the boat most of the time, but there's a good restaurant nearby that you can paddle to as well. Having access to the kayak is also fantastic -- I did a 12.5 mile trip around key west (keep in mind there is no bridge under Dredger's Key so you have to go all the way around if you end up on the west side of it..). This place is a perfect addition to any adventure.
