Private Garden cottage in Mission

Apartment - Entire home/apt · 23rd St, San Francisco, CA 94110, United States

The Space

This quaint Garden Loft is located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission district. To quote the Michelin guide, "The sun always shines in the Mission, a bohemian paradise dotted with palm trees, and home to artists, activists and a vibrant Latino community. Graffiti murals line the walls of funky galleries, thrift ships and bookstores; and sidewalk stands bursts with Mexican plantains, no pales, and the juiciest limes this side I'd the border"! Just one or two blocks away, you will find bus lines (the 27 and the 9) that will take you any where in the city, BART is just a ten minute walk.
You will also find many wonderful ethnic and trendy restaurants, cool coffee shops, bars, shops and galleries within a few blocks.
The Studio is detached from the main house. It has a small kitchenette that includes one burner, a microwave, a coffee maker and a refrigerator. (complementary coffee and tea too) The bathroom has a bathtub, small sink and toilet. The loft has a Queen size bed, a desk, a dresser, and a TV/VCR for entertainment. We can provide a pack and play upon request. We provide towels and sheets.
For your enjoyment we have a large selection of records with player that we hope you will enjoy as much as we do.
Best suited for one person or a couple.
There is no direct access from the street to the cottage. Either you will come through the main house or through the garage.
Free WiFi is available!
You can relax in the garden after a long day of sight seeing. You can use the heat lamp if it gets a little chilly sitting outside. You will get an idea of what is whithin a few blocks by viewing the photos.

  • Our stay at this well-located sanctuary was exceptional from start to finish. The warmth of Jim and Carolyn is reflected in the well-appointed and cozy space they have created for guests. We delighted in the location, which allowed us to walk to some incredible eats (El Matate is a must), fantastic Latin culture (do not miss Precita Eyes' map of the murals in the Mission) and terrific bookstores and shops. While we enjoyed the city overall we were especially fond of this neighbourhood. With helpful maps and bus information as well as verbal tips from both Jim and Carolyn we were well prepared to savour our vacation. Coffee and happy hours in the gorgeous little garden right outside our door made this a home away from home for us. We will definitely return to stay here.

  • Staying in the Mission district was delightful!

Carolyn's place was charming and very well located to explore the Mission and it was so easy to get to "downtown" SFO.

We had some schedule issues and Carolyn was so very gracious in helping us resolve them all! I love her place and the garden was a place I could stay forever!

I highly recommend Carolyn's place and will most surely use it when we return to the SFO area!

Thank you Carolyn for being a wonderful hostess - you could not have done more!

  • Wow! What a great stay! Jim and Carolyn are so accommodating and helpful when staying in the mission district in San Francisco! Upon our arrival they had a list of suggestions along with maps and walking times/distances. The loft itself was spectacular. Simply having your own space was worth it all. Definitely will be looking to book with Jim and Carolyn in the future!

  • The perfect place for a San Francisco stay. The accommodations are as wonderful as the pictures, the garden a relaxing oasis from the city, and Jim and Carolyn's warm welcome and expert suggestions for hip mission food and drink and maps to see the best of the city helpful and appreciated. We particularly enjoyed sampling the well assembled record collection and the tip on the phenomenal gospel music at Glide Memorial on Sundays. We arrived via Amtrak to Emeryville and were able to smoothly transfer to BART and make the short walk to the cottage with luggage. The bus stop is even closer, so no car is no problem.

  • We stayed at Jim & Carolyn's place while attending a business conference, and it is the best place I have stayed in San Francisco so far. The place is great - nice cozy space and an awesome garden. Great neighbourhood. Most importantly, Jim & Carolyn are super friendly and helpful hosts. Go here instead of going to a hotel.

Merci encore!

  • We have just returned from our 4 week stay in the USA, three nights of which were spent in San Francisco at Jim & Carolyn's. The accommodation could not have been better. It was very comfortable and the private access meant we didn't have to disturb our hosts unnecessarily. On our first day there, Jim very kindly drove us around for a couple of hours showing us some sights that we might not otherwise have got to. We were located in a great area with plenty of shops and restaurants just around the corner and public transport was close at hand, too, which we used daily. Thanks to both of you, we would definitely return if we find ourselves in SF again. Yvonne & Mick

  • The cottage is adorable, spacious, and perfectly located. Jim is a wonderfully accommodating host. We sat in the garden and soaked up the sun; it was hard to rally to leave!

  • My mother and I stayed at Jim and Carolyn's place and it was great. We loved feeling like we were "coming home." It is a cozy and quaint place. It might be a little small for more than 2 people but it was perfect for my mom and I. Highly recommend!

About
My wife and I are in our early fifties, but "they" say fifty is the new thirty! We have lived in the Mission for 20 years and we love it. Beside having fun raising our 15 year old son, traveling is one of our favorite things to do so we love to host! So far, Peru and Europe have been our favorite destinations! We love music, the arts, the great outdoors and food, so we have plenty of suggestions to guide you through this great City. Forgot to mention, my wife Carolyn is a french native. Si vous avez un probleme en anglais elle pourra tout vous expliquer en Francais!
