We discovered at the last minute that we would arrive in Rio during the Carnival, so we decided to go to Petropolis to avoid the crowd and the high prices. We booked Myriam's appartement for a few days, and it was an extremely pleasant experience. The appartement is part of a lovely house not to far from the center and the points of interest of Petropolis, it was very comfortable and convenient, and Myriam was a charming host who was always available for us, not only to answer our many questions, but also to give us information on the city of Petropolis and on the places to visit there. We were almost a bit sad to have only stayed there for such a short period of time, as we would have loved to learn to know her better.
And I forgot to mention the shared swimming pool which was a very welcome addition to the appartement.
Thank you very much for everything Myriam!
Marvelous! an experience we will remember forever! So much more than a stay in another urban center. we got to experience (if only a little) a slice of life as real Brazilians live, we shopped in the grocery, rode the local buses, took our own great adventure in a day trip by intercity bus to Rio and back to our lovely villa in Petropolis. Air conditioning unnecessary, the evenings are cool and the stars! WOW! So intimate to meet Miriam, her mother, Laitia? and her son,, Artur? . very helpful, all.
Dusted off my high school french from more than 50 years ago to converse with Laitia (thank you M.Gaylord and Mme. Powell). Regret that we did not get to meet Miriam's older son, victor, a fellow Hoya (Georgetown U in Washington D.C.) but his emails in english, were pretty instrumental in helping us decide to stay here.
A very nice, large swimming pool and doable kitchen facilities we good amenities. We ate our self-cooked dinners poolside every night. A bit expensive to get to. $160 US by cab from GIG, but we arrived late evening and there really was not another foo alternative. For our departure, Miriam and her son helped us arrange a tour guide to pick us up in Petropolis and take us around Rio before leaving us at the airport for our !0:30PM flight back to the USA. Obrigado Miriam!
Great stay, Myrial is great host and great person. I was so pleased to be there that I extend my stay by 3 days.
