Rosedale on Shoal Creek Trail

Apartment - Private room · Shoal Creek Boulevard, Austin, TX 78756, United States

The Space

One bedroom for rent in a 2nd story, three bedroom apartment, room includes your own private bathroom. Living room complete with 55" 3D TV with basic cable, kitchen with gas cooking, and two very large windows that look out to peaceful garden. The room for rent has a queen sized bed, space in a large walk-in closet for your clothes and stuff and a window that looks out onto the porch. Rent also includes two bicycles with locks! Shoal Creek trail is right outside, and you can walk or ride bikes all the way to downtown! Shoal Creek trail is Austin's first green belt (nature trail). Rosedale is a great neighborhood that has lots to do within walking distance. The Draught House (great Austin pub for 45 years) is only a few blocks away and it has a different food trailer come every night. Central Market is also right up the street. Tennis courts, local free swimming pool and park are just a few blocks away. The Rosedale neighborhood began from farm and dairy land in the 1860s. In the 1900s, four florists and nurseries found their home in this area. Much of the nursery stock planted during that time remains, as witnessed by the many large and lovely trees in the neighborhood. The majority of the homes in the Rosedale area were built during the 1930s and 1940s, giving them an allure not found with newer construction. The many renovation projects and new construction throughout the neighborhood lend a sense of vitality and renewal. The population of the neighborhood is a fabulous blend of young families, single professionals, and original owners who raised their children here and have many tales to tell.

Beyond the delightful charm of the area, the Rosedale neighborhood's location makes it one of the most desirable of Austin's neighborhoods. We have close proximity to the Capitol, the downtown area, and the University of Texas at Austin, as well as easy access to the main thoroughfares of our beautiful city. Bus stops are just a block away. The local Monk Parakeets (Quaker Parrots) often make a stop outside to say hello!

We do have two cats that live here. They are cool with visitors. Please be cool with them. We can also close off part of the apartment and keep them separate from you. I also have a roommate, Jason. He's quiet and laid back, and if I'm unavailable he may check you in. There are coin washing machines and dryers downstairs. We wash all of the bedding and all towels, steam the bed, vacuum, and clean and sanitize the bathroom after each guests' stay.

Guest Access

Guests have their own private room and bathroom, a shared living room, front porch with seating, and a shared kitchen. You're welcome to use dishes/pots/pans but please clean up after yourself. We usually have coffee at breakfast from Texas Coffee Traders, and you may help yourself to cereal and milk/coconut milk/almond milk. Sometimes on the weekends I will make a fancy brunch.

Interaction with Guests

Sometimes I am home and I will hang out with guests if they seem like they want to hang out and if I am feeling like hanging out. I work and play outside a lot so I'm not home all of the time.

The Neighborhood

Everything! I recently saw a fox run by and I've seen two skunks! I love nature.

Getting around

There are bus stops within walking distance. You could also take advantage of the bicycles that come with the room, sign up for car2go, take a cab, use (website hidden). If you bring your own car or rent a car, I have plenty of free parking available.

  • Listing was exactly as promised. Brooke was friendly and warm, and a total pro. Neighborhood was nice with SOOO much stuff (restaurants, shops) within easy walking distance.

    Great experience all around.

  • This is a great place to stay. The room is clean and quiet and Brooke and her roommate are excellent hosts. The neighborhood is nice and has some good restaurants and cafes within walking distance. It is an easy bike ride along Shoal Creek to downtown Austin and there are bikes available. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. And Jason makes a great pie

  • Brooke and Jason were great! This was my first Air bnb experience and I was traveling alone so I was a bit hesitant but they put me at ease. The room was very clean and comfortable and even though I live around the Austin area, I was still not very knowledgeable about that certain part of town, but both Brooke and Jason helped to point me in the right direction. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • Nice place, very comfortable room! Brooke and Jason (her flatmate) are very kind and helpful!
Location is a bit far from where everything happens, but with the bikes she has, it is awesome to ride around and to downtown! Bus is easy too!

  • Brooke and Jason were great hosts. very accommodating and friendly. Had our own bathroom and bedroom. Parking was easy and Brooke was very knowledgeable about the city, restaurants, and night life. Great stay!

  • Excellent first experience using airbnb. Brooke and Jason were both friendly, with Jason taking me out for a pint at the Draught house and also providing restaurant recommendations. The room and flat are both clean, quiet and comfortable. The location is convenient for both UT and downtown Austin. I would recommend staying here. Thanks guys

  • Brooke and Jason were great hosts! Not only was it a great location, but they also gave me tips about what to do in AUSTIN.

  • Brooke (and her roomate Jason) were great hosts. All of the necessities were provided, and I even had my own bathroom. Unfortunately, I didn't have a whole lot of time to get to know them since I was gone early in the morning and back late at night. The location was great, although I had some trouble catching a cab a couple days (which is to be expected because I was there for SXSW). All in all it was a perfect place to stay for my first time in Austin. I would recommend this place to anyone... you will not be dissapointed (unless you have a problem with cats!!)

  • Unfortunately didn't get to see Brooke, but she was very helpful over email. Her place was clean, tidy and quiet. Ideal for out stay

    March 2014
  • My stay at Brooke's place was low-key and relaxing—the perfect antidote to cramped hostels and sleeping in coach on the train! I had my own bedroom with flat-screen TV, use of the kitchen, and my own bathroom (a luxury at that point on my trip). A very clean and quiet place. Even though they were not around much, Brooke and Jason were great hosts and I felt comfortable.

Note to those traveling without a car: Brooke's place is just a few blocks from a main bus route into downtown, and a decent base from which to explore Austin.

About
I am a native Texan and I have lived in Austin for just over two years. I love it here. Even though I haven't lived here for very long, I feel that I know this city very well already, and I've found places and done things that people that have lived here their whole life never knew about, so if you want some good suggestions for things to do, I can be a big help. There is always something going on here, usually it's hard to decide what to do because there are constantly multiple choices of fun. About me, I am kind of a naturalist, or try to be. I like to eat healthy and be outside. I'm not much of a home body and I really like to go hiking (so many trails here), kayaking , spelunking, and swimming. I also love living in a city with such a fun music scene and a great appreciation for arts, and an ever evolving food culture. As a host I aim to please. Comfort, cleanliness and convenience are important on my list.
