About this listing
The ocean in your back yard! 3 bedroom, 2 bath unique Mexican home with equipped kitchen, beautiful private pool, terraces, wifi, huge fenced in gardens, gorgeous sunset views and direct access to the beach.
! sorry, but the house is no longer available for share or sale !
This house is on the market fully furnished and equipped. This is not a public vacation rental home, hotel, or bnb. It is a non-profit private residence available for short periods to cover maintenance costs until it is sold/occupied from July 2015. If you have ever dreamed of owning a piece of tropical paradise, then this is a perfect opportunity to experience ocean front living. Contact me about the sale or discuss the availability and terms of sharing this very special home to book your holiday vacation now!
The house is very rustic with lots of interesting primitive architectural details, a typical tiled roof, open air style, basic functional kitchen, ceiling fans throughout (no air conditioning) and a gorgeous figure eight shaped pool accessed directly from the downstairs covered porch terrace. The house can accommodate up to 6 people.
The downstairs level is comprised of an equipped kitchen, lounge, king bedroom with view of the ocean from the bed and direct access to the terrace/pool, a twin bedroom on jungle side of the house with 2 bunk beds and a small balcony, and a full bath with toilet and shower situated between the 2 bedrooms.
The upstairs level has a king bedroom, private terrace with views to the pool and the ocean through the palm tops, and a small private bath.
All bedrooms have secure locking doors and are fully screened so there is no need for mosquito nets. Mosquitos are not generally a big problem during high season because it is dry season, however there are tiki torches with citronella and lavender coils to burn if mosquitos present themselves.
There are lime, mango, guanabana and coconut trees, as well as lemon grass, mint and basil in the front garden. A gate from the rear garden steps directly out onto the beach where there is a private shade ramada and hammock. The front and back gardens are separated and fully fenced in. Well behaved supervised pets are welcome here.
This is one of the first beach houses in Troncones (the artist Damien Hirst used to vacation in this very house). It's a modest, clean, well equipped beach house, that has lots of character in it's funky imperfection, and one of the best swimming locations on the beach (the least amount of rocks, comparatively in front of the house there are very few). Boogie boards and pool floats are provided, as well as a bicycle.
Wifi is available throughout the house and has a good speed, assuming it does not go down which happens occasionally because of our remote location, however, usually during high season it is stable.
Interaction with Guests
You will have complete privacy, however, since the house is on the market for sale, there is a small possibility that during your stay it would need to be shown to prospective buyers. All showings would be with advance notice/agreement and chaperoned by myself or the caretakers. It is highly unlikely that the home would be shown over the holidays.
Housekeeping, pool and yard maintenance is taken care of by a lovely Mexican couple 3 mornings a week (every other day, Sundays off). Additional services if desired, can be discussed prior to booking. You will have complete privacy, however, the caretakers live nearby and are available by phone to come and help you at a moments notice if needed.
Perhaps Troncones is where the joke 'why did the chicken cross the road' was invented (answer: to get to the other side). This is a sleepy town where chickens and roosters are always slowly strutting across the roads. It's a wholesome, simple authentic Mexican pueblo comprised of horses and cowboys and iguanas and dogs and native families and children, with a dash of gringo. If you are looking for a quiet, off the beaten path beach destination, then Troncones may be the place : enjoy spectacular sunsets, fall asleep to the sound of enormous waves and wake to the sight of ponies or turtles on the beach, maybe even whale sightings! There are several nice restaurants and plentiful sporting activities in the area.
Public transportation to Zihuatanejo exists and is inexpensive, however the experience is an adventure in itself and not for the faint of heart ! Taxis from Troncones are available but a little pricey. if you are arriving by plane, then a taxi is your best option to get to Troncones, and cost approx 50 - 70 dollars. If you have a car there is free parking within the compound. Remember, there are no banks or ATM machines or large scale supermarkets in Troncones (there are however tiendas for basics items and alcohol and fruit/veg/fish trucks), so come prepared!
Other Things to Note
Please note that the bathroom showers have electric hot water on demand systems but the house overall is based on 'cold' water. Due to the warm climate, the 'cold' water is all that is needed :-)
During the summer months there are occasional power outages in town especially during the night when thunderstorms produce, but the house has plenty of candles and flashlights - when the lights go out it's a great time to look at the stars and fireflies and listen to the frog opera :-)
The house's tropical location and rustic open air nature implies that sometimes tropical animals and insects present themselves (for example there were 3 baby crabs in the kitchen sink this morning), so guests staying here should be ideally the relaxed writer, artist, eco-tourist, surfer, or adventure type. Think : luxury camping :-) in the jungle.
Remember that most of the time the surf and ocean currents are quite strong, so inexperienced swimmers and children need to be well supervised (at the pool too!)
Smoking is allowed outdoors.
Nancy was great. The house was great too-- great location, comfortable layout, great beach, etc. Property was described well and did not disappoint!
This was truly the trip of a lifetime! What an incredible and breathtaking home. As amazing as the pictures are they truly fail in comparison to being there. Relax in the pool, take a few steps to the ocean, walk to all the restaurants you could want along the beach and enjoy the inside of this one of a kind home. Nancy was a magnificent host! She answered all of our questions and gave us great tips on things to do and places to see in Troncones. We will be back!!
Our stay was great, and the listing was somewhat accurate. We appreciate rustic charm, and the house worked well for us. The addition of some comfortable seating such as a couple of lounge chairs by the pool, and some cushions on the concrete bench inside would help. We were disappointed that a bike and 2 surfboards were part of the listing but they weren't there, so had to go and rent them. The pool was lovely, there was a slight problem at the beginning with the water but Nancy had that fixed the next day. We had a fantastic time overall.
Nancy was very accommodating when I flubbed the dates when first booking; promptly responded to emails from my friend and I answering our questions and giving us helpful information. The casa was rustic and the pool wonderful - was a pleasure meeting her. Leonel and Carolina were very friendly (lovely people) and good natured about my lack of Spanish and fear of bugs. Loved the close proximity of the beach - was a wonderful first visit to Mexico with my friend of over 40 years. Highly recommend if you are looking to unplug, relax and enjoy the sound of the crashing waves and chirping crickets.
The listing was accurate and Nancy was very accomodating when i fat-fingered our visit date. This casa was exactly what Sue and I were hoping for. What a beautiful rustic home on a beautiful lot right on the beach. And its a short walk into troncones for great food and groceries. We found that the liquor store was a little too convenient but i'm doing some counseling for that!
It hurt a lot to leave. We'll be back.
Couldn't recommend Nancy and her home highly enough. The place is beautiful and rustic as described. You wake up and go to bed with the sound of the Pacific. The property is fantastic and the pool is perfect.
Communication was great in the lead up and Nancy was very helpful with recommendations. The caretakers are amazing people too and very friendly. A+ interactions all around.
The only issue we had is that we had a few bug bites on our feet at night (as advertised, the place is pretty open), but nothing too bad. Next time, we might invest in some bug spray. Other than that, this was an incredible place to stay. Would definitely (and plan on) returning.
