The apartment is cozy and is conveniently located near a metro stop. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful.
A simple but lovely place to stay near all the fun and exciting places in D.C. Thanks for having an affordable and accessible place for young and old!
We spent 6 days at Adreinne's place in October 2013 attending a conference in the nearby Conference Centre. The location is excellent both for Conference Centre visitors and those discovering DC as it is very conveniently located near Metro and walking distance from the city centre. Description fits the place. The place would deserve a little bit more maintenance, but we were satisfied altogether and would stay there again.
good location if going to convention center
good supply of dishes and kitchen utensils
host was responsive initially
- internet did not work 80% of the time
- hot water was lukewarm, intol for my wife, barely ok for me
she asked us to wait a few hours for a sears repairman, but we have better things to do than to wait our whole vacation as we did for the parking pass
- people upstairs had to buy sheets, we brought extra and our own
-bring your own toilet paper and toiletries
- loud partying kept us up 2 nights until 330am next door and in the neighborhood. a night club is located directly across the backside of the building
- temperature in far room was frigid- and inner room was very hot- disparate temperatures. only regulation is a air conditioner in the far room and living room but nothing for inner room. This was never addressed during our stay.
-walls are very thin. you will hear everything upstairs
-not having the landlord be local is a big drawback. we would have been able to get a parking pass if she was local. instead we were asked to look for alternate parking. Her best friend tried her best, as a parking pass was promised to be left for us. do not count on parking, and it is not listed as being offered.
Positives: Good location & Spacious.
Negatives: Very sparse. Lots of basics missing like kettle, tea towels, matches for stove, bed lamps etc. Please also be reminded there is no TV. Furniture is a little shabby, however was a good price for Washington so if money is your main criteria then it is fine.
The apt is a bit old, but the location is very good, convention center is only 2 blocks away. The small room doesn't have any windows, so it's stivy.
Overall experience is good.
We spent 3 days at Adreinne's place. Its central location makes it an interesting spot to discover DC. Description fits the place.
One of the rooms has no window, the kitchen is clean but not really equipped to welcome more than 4 persons.
Even if it would deserve a little bit more maintenance, it remains an affordable and well located address to discover DC.
The People's Place First Floor Apartment was clean, in a GREAT location, easily accessible, the neighborhood was quiet, and seemed safe. Adrienne was accommodating and whenever I text or called her, she always available. On arrival, there were only two towels, but after contacting Adrienne, she gave me information on where to find more. As stated in previous reviews, the apartment smelled stale, musty, and slightly mildew-like. However, I listened to other guests and quickly open windows, and turned on the AC. There is no central AC, but one in the living room, a fan in the hall, and a AC unit in the back bedroom. I was pleasantly surprised to see two rooms with full beds and a futon in the living room. The apartment was pretty spacious for the price and location in DC. One issue we had was with the shower water temperature. It was pretty cold to luke warm for the entire trip, but the water in the sinks were very hot. I love hot showers, so I was disappointed in that finding. Also, there is only one set of keys. My friends and I learned the hard way, and some were accidentally locked out of the house. For future reference, leave the keys in the lock box at all times instead of carrying them with you everywhere. Someone from my group apparently left the front door open to the entrance of all of the units and I received a slightly snappy text message from Adrienne, but after apologizing and assuring to her that it wouldn't happen again, I only experienced positive interactions. In regards to furniture, every thing was comfortable! The couch, however, is not as pictured. Instead, it is a black leather couch that is starting to peel. I had no major issue with it, other than the notice of cosmetic wear and tear. Being that I have lived in an apartment of this nature in DC, I thought it was a great experience and would definitely stay there again. For those of you who are not familiar with the older style homes, please be aware that it is not the most up-to-date apartment. However, great deal, and experience. I would definitely recommend!
Stayed 4 nights. Clean & comfortable. Free wifi, and has washing machine/dryer. Very conveniently located to a metro station, Mount Vernon Sq, 7th Street.
Nearby, not many restaurants, but there is a new development coming up nearby and so that will change. But you can always hop on to the metro to U Street (two stops) for some awesome hot dogs at Ben's Chilli Bowl. And Chinatown is waking distance.
And last but not least, Adreinne was very nice and understanding to let us in early as we had bags.
I was attending a conference at the Washington Convention Center and this apartment was incredibly close! It was an easy walk from my front door to the convention space through an up and coming neighborhood. The closest Metro station was about a block or so away which also possessed a D.C. Bikeshare station.
The space was just as described and was spacious if there had been more of us sharing the space. The only downer was a "musty/stale" air type of odor which I attributed to all the windows being closed. It improved when I opened the windows, but was too much for a friend of mine that has an allergy to mold and planned to split the space with me. The host was responsive to this matter and looked into it when I had departed.
I highly recommend this apartment if you're looking for an affordable place near the convention, or want to visit D.C. and live like a local.
