COVID-19 Update

We know you have questions about the coronavirus and what it means for you and any vacation plans you might be considering.

Most of the experts are recommending that we Shelter in Place for the next 8-12 weeks. Therefore, out an abundance of caution, we will begin to accept bookings in mid-July.

This is our home. If you choose to join us, you can rest assured that every doorknob, light switch, drawer pull, etc. will be thoroughly sanitized before your arrival, and we will greet you with a smile from 6 feet away!

We trust that you, like us, will keep abreast of the situation and do what's right for your family. If that means cancelling your trip, even the day before your scheduled arrival, we will refund your money in full, and offer you a 10% discount on any future reservation.

So, please relax! You can make a tentative reservation with the understanding that you will lose nothing if you must cancel your plans. We hope we can welcome you this summer, but it's not the end of the world if you need to reschedule.

What's most important is that we work together to keep both of our families healthy and safe. Thank you for considering us for your next adventure!

Did you know that Monarch butterfly numbers have crashed over the last 20 years, and they are being considered for the Endangered Species List?

We are happy to share our work saving Monarchs with YOU! And, no matter what time of year you join us, we can show you our video clips of a caterpillar turning into a chrysalis, emerging as an adult butterfly, and even a Monarch egg hatching - on request, of course. We're happy to share a little or a lot - your preference. Either way, you'll leave with memories that will last a lifetime!

* We have Rescued, Raised, and Released Monarchs for 5 years now. If the weather conditions are right, Monarchs have arrived as early as June 7th and 8th. However, if we have a cold, rainy Spring, they have arrived as late as June 29th, July 12th, and July 22nd. They migrate to Mexico beginning mid-August through mid-September, and that's when we tag them.

Your home away from home:

If you love wildlife and flowers, this is the place for you! We planted a huge Bio-Hedge that runs the length of our driveway and is filled with trees and shrubs selected to feed and attract birds and wildlife - summer and winter.

We later planted a Certified Monarch Waystation. As a result, in the spring, summer, and fall, our home is surrounded by butterflies, a resident bunny family, and chirping songbirds. Year-round guests include whitetail and mule deer, elk across the street, and assorted raptors cruising by for mice and voles.

Our home has 1200 square feet, great views from every window, air conditioning, which is really needed in July and August, accommodates 4-6 adults comfortably, with a California King Tempur-Pedic bed in the bedroom and Queen sofa bed in the living room. The sofa bed was upgraded to include an Air Dream mattress. This innovative air-over-coil technology looks and feels like a premium luxury mattress. Compared to a standard sleeper mattress the Air Dream has twice the thickness! We also have a queen-sized air mattress for the floor if you need it.

The master bath has a 6’ long Jacuzzi tub, PLUS a shower, toe heater, plenty of counter space, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, bath and hand soap, hair dryer, and soft, fluffy, bamboo-blend towels.

The living room has a sofa bed, loveseat, two Rocking/Recliners, and entertainment center with 65” 4K HD Smart TV with high-speed Dish service and hundreds of channels and movies to choose from. Also, cell phone service is terrific if you have Verizon.

The dining room features a dining set that expands to seat 6 people comfortably.

The kitchen has granite countertops, microwave, ice maker, glass-topped stove and oven, rice cooker, 14" non-stick wok (Thanks again, Haichang & Jen!), crock pot, 4 slice toaster, 12 cup coffee maker, all eating and serving utensils, including chopsticks, and a desk that is laptop friendly.

The wraparound deck has a table and 4 chairs, gas grill, and a spectacular view. (More chairs are available.)

Do you know the best times and places to see bison, bears, wolves, elk, river otters, pika, or Rocky Mountain sheep?

Yellowstone is too big to see in a short trip; there are so many delightful choices to consider! You might be asking yourself, "Where do I begin?"

All our guests receive Free Travel Planning starting a few days after you book your stay!

As a wildlife photographer with years of experience in the park, Leo has prepared an extensive Yellowstone Guide with details on the top places to see, the best routes to take, and how long it will take to drive to each area (including time allotted for possible "bear jams," "bison jams," or "elk jams.")

We will first send you an overview of the top attractions (thermal features and animals) and then help customize a travel route(s) in order of your priorities. Relax and have confidence that you’ll be at the right place at the right time to maximize your chances of seeing your favorite things!

Guest access
Although you have a private entrance if you want to access your "Penthouse" from the deck, guests normally share the front entry door. After greeting you, we’ll head downstairs, and you’ll head upstairs to your private 1200 sq. ft. upper floor. Each floor has a lockable door for security. Also, the prior owner was a concert pianist and held piano lessons in the basement. The home has exceptional sound-proofing. Noise transmission is not a problem. You won't hear us. We won't hear you.

We’ll occasionally share the laundry facilities. You are welcome to use the lawn and garden picnic table, but please don't pick the flowers or disturb the monarch caterpillars or eggs.

Other things to note
Cell phone service is terrific if you have Verizon. Our home is 10 minutes to Chico Hot Springs for gourmet dining, swimming in the hot springs pool, massages and pampering at the Day Spa, horseback riding, and the historic saloon, as well as several Yellowstone River fishing access points along Hwy 89.

Dorothy and I met in Anchorage, Alaska in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Our love for animals and the outdoors led us to start a wildlife photography business and become active in protecting unique watchable wildlife resources. We were lucky to have the CBS Evening News feature us twice for protecting the world-famous McNeil River brown bears, which helped us lead the effort that established the 130,000 acre McNeil River State Game Refuge in Alaska. We then assisted Defenders of Wildlife, The Alaska Wildlife Alliance, and Friends of Animals in protecting the famed Toklat wolf pack in Denali National Park, the longest studied group of wild wolves in the world. On November 2, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , CBS Evening News featured us again for these efforts. In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , we were honored to be asked to lead a round table discussion at the 8th World Wilderness Congress, hosting over 150 nations. At that meeting, we were asked to become two of the 40 founding members of the International League of Conservation Photographers. The ILCP was initially founded with 40 Fellows considered to be some of the most passionate nature and wildlife photographers of our generation. The mission of the ILCP is to further environmental and cultural conservation through photography and work on global campaigns to highlight current issues. Dorothy's successful account of creating a petition to protect the Toklat wolves of Denali National Park is the lead story in MoveOn's book entitled, "MOVEON'S 50 WAYS TO LOVE YOUR COUNTRY: How to Find Your Political Voice and Be a Catalyst for Change." Our passion for conservation has led us to developing and sharing a Rescue, Raise, and Release program for Monarch butterflies, whose population has decreased in the last 20 years from over one Billion to a recent low of 35 million. We have opened our home as a vacation rental which can serve visitors to Yellowstone and show interested guests how they can help Monarchs and other pollinators. In addition, our goal is to continue to give presentations at schools, nurseries, and garden centers, and soon in Yellowstone National Park.
