Dorothy and I met in Anchorage, Alaska in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Our love for animals and the outdoors led us to start a wildlife photography business and become active in protecting unique watchable wildlife resources.
We were lucky to have the CBS Evening News feature us twice for protecting the world-famous McNeil River brown bears, which helped us lead the effort that established the 130,000 acre McNeil River State Game Refuge in Alaska. We then assisted Defenders of Wildlife, The Alaska Wildlife Alliance, and Friends of Animals in protecting the famed Toklat wolf pack in Denali National Park, the longest studied group of wild wolves in the world. On November 2, (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , CBS Evening News featured us again for these efforts.
In (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , we were honored to be asked to lead a round table discussion at the 8th World Wilderness Congress, hosting over 150 nations. At that meeting, we were asked to become two of the 40 founding members of the International League of Conservation Photographers. The ILCP was initially founded with 40 Fellows considered to be some of the most passionate nature and wildlife photographers of our generation. The mission of the ILCP is to further environmental and cultural conservation through photography and work on global campaigns to highlight current issues.
Dorothy's successful account of creating a petition to protect the Toklat wolves of Denali National Park is the lead story in MoveOn's book entitled, "MOVEON'S 50 WAYS TO LOVE YOUR COUNTRY: How to Find Your Political Voice and Be a Catalyst for Change."
Our passion for conservation has led us to developing and sharing a Rescue, Raise, and Release program for Monarch butterflies, whose population has decreased in the last 20 years from over one Billion to a recent low of 35 million. We have opened our home as a vacation rental which can serve visitors to Yellowstone and show interested guests how they can help Monarchs and other pollinators. In addition, our goal is to continue to give presentations at schools, nurseries, and garden centers, and soon in Yellowstone National Park.
