  MAYUDAMA HOUSE is a renovated old-Japanese art house, which has 134 years of history. The house was used to raise silkworms to produce silk, was once a silk mill back in 19 century.
  It is surrounded by the vast nature and many hot springs such as Kusatsu, It has become a model of "Spirited Away", a notable Japanese animation directed by Hayao Miyazaki.

The space
【1F】
On the first floor, there is the original wisdom of life that was built, such as the hearth (IRORI) It was an essential appliance for the old life. Especially grilled fish and pot in the hearth are the best choice. Let’s smoke out!
【2F】
On the second floor, the south side is all glazed and you can enjoy the best view.

【Facilities】
On the first floor, there are 3 Tatami rooms for your living space, fireplace, kitchen, restroom, and bath.

The second floor is an open space for your relaxation. There are projector and audio sets.

No worries about the toilet! We have modern western one so everyone could use.

We have dishes, cookware, seasoning and flavouring, all free to use. We also have BBQ sets.
NOTE: We do not serve foods for our guests. If you are not planning to go out for dinner, we recommend you to prepare ingredients at the grocery store before the stay.
【Activity introduction】
· Wild vegetable searching searching for wild plants in the satoyama around the old private house, tempura as it is
➡ 500 yen/person (from April to early June only)
· Experience making konjac (a Japanese traditional side dish) making potatoes of Gunma.

➡ 700 yen/person (from October to March only)
· Handmade udon making using local pollen

➡ 500 yen/person (Current reception is suspended)
You can experience the country life where nature, clothing and shelter, which is only possible in the country, is tied deeply.

* Depending on the time and schedule of local people, we may not meet your expectations. If you would like to have an activity please contact us first.
※ The price will be charged separately. I will address it as honorarium and material expenses for those who are instructors. As it varies depending on program contents and the number of participants, we will spoil it, but please inquire.
※ Basically, we ask you to apply for all guests who are staying. We accept from minimum 4 people.

【FAQ】
Q. Is there a restroom in the house? Is it an old Japanese style?
A. We have a nice modern western toilet!

Q. Can we use the kitchen?
A. Yes. We have various kinds dishes, cookware, seasonings and flavourings prepared. Please feel free to use it.

Q. Do you have a shower or bath?
A. Yes, we do. Please press the button to activate the water heater, and wait for few minutes until the water gets nice and warm.

Q. Isn't it cold in the winter?
A. Yes. It is very cold in the winter since old Japanese houses lack in heat insulation. When arriving in the winter, we strongly recommend you to prepare thick warm clothing such as ski wear.

Q. Are there bugs?
A. We are doing our best, but since we are surrounded by an untouched nature, we could not completely protect our house from insects. We ask for your understanding. Thank you.

Q. Which language is available? Is Spanish, French, Chinese, German available?
A. English is available. Feel free to talk in English either Japanese to us!

Q. Is there any place to buy something around the house?
A. Yes. About 5 minutes drive from MAYUDAMA house, there is a local market. If you drive out for 15 minutes, there is a large grocery store where you could buy any kinds of stuff.

Q. What shall we do with our meal?
A. We do not serve foods. Please utilize the grocery store to help yourself.

We also have service to buy the grocery sets for you, if you contact us 5 days before the stay. Please check our website for more precise cost and the included item list of our grocery set.

Q. Is it possible to visit without cars?
A. MAYUDAMA house is 10 minutes walk from the train station. However, if you are planning to visit hot spring or places for sightseeing, we strongly recommend you to visit us with cars.

Q. Do you rent us a car?
A. No. We do not rent cars for our guest. If you are looking for cars, please contact us beforehand. We will help you out!

Q. How much does it take from the train station? Can we walk there?
A. Yes. On the way, it is a steep slope, so you might take about 10 minutes to hike up. However, on the way back, it will only take you about 5 minutes!

Other things to note:

It is very cold in the winter since old Japanese houses lack in warmth. When arriving in the winter, we strongly recommend you to prepare thick warm clothing such as ski wear.

We do our best to offer you the best stay experience, but since our building is over 100 years old and located in the mountain side, we cannot fully shield our house from insects. We kindly appreciate for your understanding. Thank you.
