Em's place was beautiful. We were the only tenants for two out of three nights. The garden out back is also lovely. We have no complaints.
When you stay in a location like this you expect the amenities to be more than a hotel room.If I were to rate my experience from worst to best (1-10) I would give it a 5. The kitchen / sitting room area was adequate. However the kitchen was ill equipped for you to cook any meals for yourself having no stove or oven. There was one large hot plate available. No can opener or other kitchen utensils to cook with. So you have a large kitchen area that is not usable. If you are trying to save money by not eating out you won't find it there.
The trim on the steps are dangerous. Two of the people I was with tripped on the steps several times and one twisted her ankle. Your foot catches going up and coming down throws your balance off. The elderly and someone with knee problems would have a very difficult time.
The bedroom I was in was adequate. However there is a small rack with hooks to hang 4 articles of clothing. No hangers. You basically have to live out of your suitcase by lifting it on and off the bed any time you need something from it. There were no clocks in the bedrooms. Just one small one by the steps by the stairs before you go up.
Last we did accidently lock the bottom lock to the front door. Of course having no key we could not get back in. My friend and I left emails, texts, and called the emergency number for over three hours and got no response. Luckily Ems daughter pulled into the driveway. We were told that Em had lost her phone so none of our attempts to contact her were received. If she had not shown up we would have had no way to get back in. That was very disconcerting. Yes the instructions said don't lock that lock but as a business there needs to be a better back up plan for when that happens. Another number to call for someone to unlock it our leave a key.
I think more information would have better equipped me for deciding if this was the right place for me to stay. It would not be a choice if I were making an extended stay such as a week.
This guest visit was much different than the previous guests of the past 1.5 years that we’ve been renting. Guests were notified that I would be unavailable due to my families Spring Break Vacation and that I would not be able to assist them during the length of their stay. They consented in advance of booking.
Unfortunately, they had an emergency and did not follow the house rules and locked everyone out of the guesthouse. Fortunately, our daughter arrived back home from the airport the day this occurred and let them in. The guest house has a combination lock on it and guests come and go with complete freedom. Due to this issue, we notified them that we would be changing our locking system upon our return to avoid this type of incident from happening in the future.
We have had very positive experiences renting out our spare rooms and the guests who have stayed have appreciated the privacy and alternative to the hotel environment. Our listing description is accurate in that there is a small kitchenette and not a full dining room/kitchen. We are not in competition with hotels and based on your comments perhaps that would be a better choice for you in the future.
I had a lovely time at this location. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable, and the entire space was very quiet and private. I would highly recommend!!
Mark and Eve's home is in a beautiful, quiet neighborhood and they have a tranquil backyard with gorgeous landscaping. Checking in and out was easy and convenient. Due to flight delays it was very late when I arrived but had no problems getting to my room. The accommodations are very clean, very comfortable and I had a great four nights in this suite. I was on a flexible schedule so the shared bathroom was not an issue for me in the mornings. The other guests were considerate and tidy. The bathroom is clean and modern and well stocked. I enjoyed my stay here.
As you peruse listings on Airbnb and wonder if the places which have shared baths will work out, wonder no more. They don't. First morn, the other guest came in while I was using the bathroom. I had closed the door, but hadn't locked it. Later, while the other guest was showering, my wife woke up. I was about to run down to the grocery for some breakfast supplies and she wanted to come, not to shop, but to use the bathroom at the grocery! Not a knock at all on this place specifically, but you might want to shop around for an ensuite bathroom; I know I will next time. Two most important things about this place (any place), bed and shower, were solid. It was hot during our stay, and we would open the windows at night and enjoy the cool fresh air. Only problem, the last night we stayed it was windy and there were wind chimes making noise right outside the window all night. I first closed the windows, but then it was stuffy. Very annoying! This place is half committed. The kitchen, which is in the dance studio, has minimal counter space. It is sparse, not even a toaster or blender, without the small, inexpensive appliances one might expect to find. There is a little table there with some stools but clearly not intended for the Guest House guests. This is a good guest house that could be GREAT! A few minor expenditures would make it so including small kitchenette appliances, and a breakfast table with chairs specifically dedicated to the guest house clients so furniture doesn't have to be moved every morning. Other changes that would be inexpensive include a fold out ironing board with iron - attached to the wall in the large bedroom, a hair dryer in the bathroom (tether it if you fear it will walk away), and glass shelves in the bathroom above the sink and toilet to hold make-up, etc. Also, since the bathroom is shared, it would be ideal if there were towel racks labeled for the use of each guest room so the guest doesn't have to keep them in his/her room. There are towel hooks, but they don't allow the towels to dry during the day. And lastly, the door from the studio going out to the garden catches on the rug in front of it so the door doesn't open all the way and we had to squeeze through the opening to get outside. Once outside, a table and chairs sit right in front of the door, one more frustrating inconvenience. It is clear this Guest house is new to the B&B/Guest House market, thus, our long review submitted with the sole intent of helping. Eve is a nice person and clearly tries to serve her customers. We hope she and Mark will perceive this review not as criticism, but as an opportunity for change. They could have one of the Best Guest Houses in...
Eve was a great hostess! She was easy to communicate with, she did everything she said she would, and her home (and YARD) are beautiful. The home is in a great neighborhood and it's easy to get onto main roads.
Even though we only met Eve briefly upon our arrival we were greeted warmly and given a tour of the place. Very interesting home that made me want to dance. Eve's home is very neat and tidy and in a very quiet neighborhood. This would be a great place to stay while in Spokane to explore. I wish I could have stayed longer and had more time to visit with Eve.
