The Space

Be close to everything!

Queen Anne Hill is a charming neighborhood with historic old homes, located just up the hill from The Seattle Center: close enough to be convenient to everything, yet just far enough away from the traffic, hubbub and commotion of downtown!

Your basement apartment in our home on Queen Anne Hill is just minutes from the Seattle Center (The Space needle, Pacific Science Center, IMAX Theater, Experience Music Project, International Fountain, Seattle Repertory Theater, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Children's Theater, and the Gates Foundation complex next door.) Eileen walked home from work every evening right past the Seattle Center. Plus, Seattle Pacific University is on the other end of The Hill.

Your private apartment in our 1906 home has its own side entry and is just a block from “The Ave” (Queen Anne Avenue) where all of your wishes can be satisfied, without ever venturing off the hill. In a six block stroll down The Ave, you’ll find over twenty restaurants and cafes, coffee houses, numerous shops and boutiques, kids’ store, four banks, exercise/fitness studios, two grocery stores (including Trader Joe’s just 1 1/2 blocks away), and much more! Plus, our neighborhood has numerous parks and a community swimming pool (just two blocks from our house.)

Your home away from home is just a ten to fifteen minute bus ride to The Pike Place Market and downtown Seattle. A few blocks further and you're at The Seattle Art Museum and from there it's just a walk down the steps to the waterfront. (There's a bus stop two blocks from our house.) You are just 4 1/2 blocks from Kerry Park lookout, where more photos are taken of Seattle, the Space Needle and Mt. Rainier than from any other spot!

Your private suite includes a full kitchen (stocked with pots, pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, cups, bowls, etc.) with refrigerator, stove with oven, microwave, toaster and coffee maker; bathroom with shower and hair dryer; bedroom with very comfortable double/full bed; dining and living room; free fast Wireless Internet, cable TV, VCR (and 30+ movies), separate private entrance, and use of the elliptical cross-trainer and the laundry room with washer & dryer. Your suite comes complete with an inflatable twin bed, pillow and linens, although most needing a second bed have slept on the couch. Street parking in front of our house is free (just ask for our guest parking pass.) Sorry, NO SMOKERS! Our house is smoke-free.

And at the end of the day, you can relax with a glass of wine or cup of tea in the afternoon sun on our west-facing brick terrace. You’ll listen to the bubbling fountain while completely surrounded by shrubs and trees - our own little green oasis in the middle of the city!

If you are getting about without a rental car, light rail can take you from the airport to Westlake Plaza in downtown Seattle. Bus connection is on Third Avenue (a block from the Westlake light rail station) and deposits you within two blocks of our house.

We thank you for considering our private basement suite on Queen Anne Hill, and hope we have the opportunity to help make your Seattle visit a memorable one!

  • Wonderfully hosts! Comfortable apartment with a great location. I slept the best in weeks in the bed. This was my second stay and I will return.

  • Ray and Eileen's place looks exactly like the pictures, and they were great hosts. When we arrived Ray and Eileen talked to us for about a good half hour about things to do in the area, and which buses for us to take for things that were outside of walking distance. You can tell they've lived in Seattle for a long time because they had tons of suggestions for us. He also had a map of all restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores in the area. He assured us if we needed anything that we could just knock on the door, and ask any questions, which was nice for us because it was our first time to Seattle. Last, but definitely not least, they had a small basket of granola bars and tea for us to snack on! All in all they were great hosts, and I would definitely stay at their place again!

  • First of all Ray and Eileen are very nice. We needed a place that was close to my sons home and this location was perfect. We could walk to his house, and it is close to the bus stop so we used the bus from time to time to go farther than walking distance. We ate at different restaurants right there on Queen Anne which is within walking distance and did some shopping at Trader Joes. I had a wonderful apple fritter at Top Pot and shopped in the little shops in the area. Everything you need is right here. We walked to Kerry Park, and sat on the bench looking at the fabulous skyline. The neighborhood is safe and lovely. The apartment was the perfect size for both of us and I called it my home away from home. Ray and Eileen were there if we needed something, but they gave us our privacy. A plus is the washer and dryer we could use. I hope to come back and stay here again next year! Thank you for providing a safe and nice place to stay.

  • Great location. Great hosts. Comfortable apartment with all the amenities needed to enjoy your Seattle vacation. Ray is a great communicator and very accommodating. Thanks for the local papers, bus passes, and setting up the ironing board on short notice. My work trip turned into a mini-vacation. I enjoyed morning walks throughout Queen Anne Hill and easy access to great coffee and public transportation. I definitely recommend this location!

  • Ray and Eileen's place is in a great location in Queen Anne-nice, quiet neighborhood in close proximity to all the shops and restaurants. Parking was always available right in front of the house. There is an entrance on the side of the house to the private apartment. Eileen responded quickly to my initial inquiry for the booking and Ray was there to greet us at check in. They provided lots of information about the area. Altogether, a great stay!

  • We travelled from Portland to Seattle just for one night, and this beautiful basement apartment suite was the perfect place to stay! A true home away from home - a comfortable bedroom with closet space, television, living room, magazines, dining area, full kitchen, restroom, plus information about exploring Seattle, Queen Anne, etc. Wish we had stayed longer!

    September 2013
  • Great apartment in an older established quiet neighborhood within walking distance to the beautiful Queen Ann Restaurant’s and shops and less than half of what you would pay for a downtown hotel. They provided maps and information on all the attractions in the area and gave us recommendations of places to eat based on our interests. We stayed here for one night before our Alaska cruise, and would not hesitate to stay here longer if we were in the Seattle area again.

Eileen and Ray were born in Seattle just three blocks from each other and have lived on Queen Anne Hill since college. They are young-at-heart and enjoy hiking and skiing. (They each racked up 75 days of skiing during the 2012/2013 season!) Eileen loves to read, take walks and "putter" in her garden and Ray hikes up Tiger Mountain east of Seattle to go paragliding as often as weather permits! They are delighted to welcome you to the basement apartment in their 1906 home where they've lived for almost forty years. Ray worked as a graphic artist, magazine publisher, advertising director and restaurant general manager. Nowadays when he's not flying or skiing, he works with wood and steel in his workshop. Eileen worked in the accounting department of a local TV station and loves her daily walks around Seattle, skiing and relaxing with a good book and cup of tea. Ray and Eileen love the opportunity that Airbnb has afforded them: the chance to meet wonderful people from all over the world! Eileen & Ray look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to Seattle!
