The Space

This wonderful two-storey chalet of 100m2 was almost entirely renovated between 2012/2013 and offers an alpine experience with a cosy environment and flair. It is modern but retains its rustic atmosphere and will ensure you, your friends and family a pleasant stay.

The house can accommodate with comfort up to 6 guests in three different bedrooms. All bedrooms are equipped with proper beds and have enough place to store your personal belongings and recharge your batteries. Two bedrooms are located on the upper floor. One has two beds of 90x200cm that can serve as twins or can be moved next to each other for a queen-sized bed. The other bedroom has two beds of size 90x200cm and 140x200cm, which kids usually love as it embedded into the wall with lower ceilings. On the ground floor is located what we would describe as the master bedroom. It is larger with high ceiling (up to 4.5m), has been entirely renovated and is heated with its own fireplace. It contains a queen bed of 160x220cm that overviews the garden through 4 large windows, providing a lot of day light and a romantic getaway in both Winters and Summers.

The chalet has one bathroom located on each floor, both were fully renovated and offer state-of-art equipment. The ground floor bathroom is adjacent to the larger bedroom and equipped with WC, washbasin and a one-person hot-tub/whirlpool. Through dimming lights, you can create yourself an oasis of relaxing time, much deserved after a long day of skiing/snowboarding or hiking. The larger bathroom on the first floor has a WC, two vase-shaped washbasins and a large shower. Both bathrooms are equipped with radiators to keep them warm and dry towels an sport equipment.

The main living area, comprising lounge and kitchen is located on the ground floor. The kitchen has not been renovated, but it was equipped with a brand new refrigerator (200l, including freezer) and a dishwasher. There is an oven with three hot plates powered by electricity as well as a large hot plate powered by wood/fire, increasing considerably the rustic feeling of the house. Given most of our guests are cooking at home, we have a large set of crockery and cutlery including the obvious equipment for your Swiss alpine stay: a “fondue” and a “raclette” set. The kitchen communicates through a wide opening with the living room, where you will find a fireplace to warm and light up your evenings in the Winter. The lounge is also equipped with a programmable heating system through which you can ensure heating up the room before you get-up in the morning. There is an extendable table for up to 6 people to eat as well as comfortable seating places on a couch and two large armchairs. Fast speed (20Mb) wireless internet is available as well as cable TV (with more than 100 channels, including international ones). We also have some board and card games to entertain both kids and adults.

Fresh bed sheets and towels will be provided for each guest on a weekly basis. For your comfort and to ensure consistent cleanliness to all our guests, we charge a cleaning fee (directly through Airbnb when you book with us) in order to pay for the cleaning team, to wash the bedsheets/linens and to ensure consistent cleanliness to all our guests.

The chalet is located on a privately-owned piece of land with a size of 1100m2 and therefore ensures enough parking space for up to 3 cars and plenty of rooms for kids/dogs to run/play around the house. It now has a 60m2 terrace/wooden deck with lounge furniture to enjoy the sun all day long: yes, it is facing South!
A large garden BBQ is also available by the terrace: yes it will require some will power to move from the house and go hiking! We also built a small garden house by the parking place, in which can store your skis, poles and/or snowboards overnight.

Guest Access

When renting with us, guests have access to the whole chalet and outside space. We only rent the full house at a time (not individual rooms) and there will therefore never be space to be shared with someone else.

Interaction with Guests

While we take pleasure in meeting our guests personally, we do not live permanently in Grindelwald and therefore rarely have the chance to meet in person with them, unless we are staying at the chalet right before/after them.

Nevertheless, it is our utmost priority to provide our guests with the information they need and we are both exhaustive and responsive in our communication, whether that is through email or phone. We also share a house manual with our guests prior to their stay, which contains all required information from check-in/out to how to use the TV for instance.

Depending on the date of your booking, check-in/out process will be carried out by a trusted third party.

The Neighborhood

The chalet is located in Burglauenen (one village before Grindelwald) and the exact address is communicated once booking is confirmed. There is only one neighbouring house and our chalet lies behind a small hill in a peaceful and quiet area, between a forest and a river.

The drive up from the main street is non-paved and relatively narrow (although only 70m long) and requires to be equipped with snow chains or a 4x4 car during Winter. We try to clear the snow from the way in front of the house but cannot guarantee that our partners will always be able to respond quickly in case of permanent / heavy snowing.

From the house you can access the town of Grindelwald or the main ski resort (i.e. Grund) with a 6min car-ride (4.5km). Both in town and at the cable car, there are plenty of parking space at affordable pricing (daily card about 5CHF). In peak season, parking are highly frequented so make sure to get up early:-)

Access to our chalet with public transportation is not ideal. The closest train station of Burglauenen, is a 20-min walk away (1.3km) and requires walking on the main street for 600m. We therefore highly recommend to book with us only if you are planning to travel by car and/or organise taxis to move around.

Getting Around

The Jungfrau region, where the house is located, contains the largest nature protection area in Switzerland as well as 72 waterfalls, hidden valleys, grassy alpine meadows and lonely mountain inns. Covering an area of 824 square kilometers, the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site contains nearly all of the Bernese High Alps, with their monumental rock massifs, in the Cantons of Berne and Valais. Around 90% of this area is covered with rocks and ice. The Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site stands for the splendid natural beauty of the Alps. At its heart lies the impressive Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau rock massif and the glacial landscape surrounding the Great Aletsch Glacier.

Grindelwald is a small village of about 4000 permanent inhabitants. In Winter as in Summer, it welcomes many tourists from around the world as it has a lot to offer, from world class skiing and hiking to mountain biking, paragliding or many other outdoor activities. We suggest you visit the official tourism website of Grindelwald to inform yourselves about the countless opportunities, but in short you can be sure to have fun.

During the Summer in Grindelwald, you can relax and enjoy the crisp, fresh mountain air, the intensity of unspoiled nature, a living historical culture, traditional gastronomy and a wide variety of sporting activities.

During the Winter, the three peaks – Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau – are unique and also famous world-wide thanks to James Bond 007 and “Piz Gloria” (Schilthorn). Spectacular cable-cars take visitors to the peaks; the Jungfraubahn, opened in 1912, is the highest station in Europe and is known as “Top of Europe” at 3454 m above sea level.

Other Things to Note

Due to its old age (it was first built in 1906), the house has relatively low ceilings (2m) in some of the areas and is not suitable/comfortable for people measuring over 195cm / 6.4ft.

Due to its location and the law of nature, the outside becomes wild in the Summer (i.e. loads of growing greenery). The ground gets depraved from sun from mid-October to mid-March and is therefore not an ideal location to spend your Winter holidays at the house if you are a non-skier.

The house is outside of Grindelwald and not easily accessible by public transportation.
