House rules
This place isn’t suitable for children under 12 and the host doesn’t allow pets, parties, or smoking.
Bessie is a sweet 1959 vintage caravan, best for a couple or two friends. The caravan is only 12ft long.

Set on 5 acres with one of the best private gardens in the Dandenongs. Enjoy our private rainforest walk by the creek, plus miles of bushwalks from our front gate.

Offering a minimum of one night stay for a quick getaway or stay longer & enjoy the peace.

There's an undercover area with a chiminea, guests can have a campfire, wood provided, ready to go, best suited for 1 or 2 guests.

The space
Made by the Roma Caravan Company in 1959, our little vintage caravan is only 12ft long, ideal for a peaceful getaway in the Dandenongs.

The double bed is just a bit smaller than a standard double bed, the table can be made into a single bed if required for two friends to stay. It is an ideal space for two people at the most.

There is a separate ensuite next to the caravan with a small fridge, hot shower and composting toilet.

We have had to make the hard decision that the property is not suitable for children due to the risks with unfenced steep areas.

Guest access
Car parking is beside the van, there is room for more than one vehicle if needed and the driveway has ample room to turn.

Guests are welcome to relax in the lower garden, (the lawn area in front of our home is private) chill out on the hammocks, and stroll through the private forest trail. Guests are allowed to release their inner child and use the trampoline (we do not use it when anyone is staying).

Other things to note
It is generally very quiet up here in the hills... the kookaburras will laugh and the birds sing. Possums can sometimes be heard growling at night.

We have Lyrebirds down in the forest area, if you go down and sit quietly, maybe one will come by... Deer also pass through the property at times, generally during the night and Mr Wombat also leaves evidence that he has been wandering around each night too.

WATER: We use rainwater tanks and do not have mains water connected. We will have a 12-litre container of regular treated tap water for guests to use. If you prefer, bring some water for drinking.

ENSUITE beside the caravan with a small fridge, hot shower and composting eco-toilet.

No need to worry about washing dishes when leaving, it is easy for us to do and we want guests to relax and enjoy their time away.

Please let us know if you have special requests, we always aim to be as helpful as possible.

PHONE RECEPTION: Telstra works best, and the Aldi Mobile plans as they work on the Telstra network. Vodaphone etc. tends to be unreliable in many areas up in the hills.

This is a 'no smoking' property.

No other visitors are allowed on the property, please. This is for privacy as well as insurance.

The property is well-suited for a peaceful getaway with a partner or friend.

Location

Mount Dandenong, Victoria, Australia

Mt Dandenong is a beautiful little village and a short walk (20 minutes) from our home.
The area is well known for parks and gardens, forest trails, viewpoints, and wildlife. It is a delightful escape from city life or to add to your tour itinerary.

From our front gate, you can walk off into the forest for miles and explore, or walk down to the Olinda Falls.

We are very close to the Dandenong Ranges Botanical Gardens (formerly the National Rhododendron Gardens).

We are also very close to great Mountain bike riding tracks. Mathias Track, opposite our home, is a well-known bike track as well as hiking trails.

In the caravan is a printed booklet of 32 walks to do in the hills! Also see explorethedandenongs.com.au

We have been living in the Dandenong Ranges for about 15 years and love life in the hills. Discovering the walking tracks of the Dandenongs has evolved into a website that I created known as Explore The Dandenongs. Over 32 walking trails listed! Welcoming visitors to the Dandenongs and helping them to explore is a pleasure!

During your stay
We are happy to leave our guests in peace to relax and we are also usually available to chat and answer questions etc. On arrival, we like to introduce ourselves and show guests the caravans and layout of the property etc.
This is a family home so we are here most times.
We can also help with collecting guests from the local bus stop (12 min walk) or at the end of a walking trail if required (and if we are home).
