Just one block off of South Congress Avenue, my sunlit, wood-floored, 1940's duplex on a quiet neighborhood street fits three people. Walk to Magnolia Cafe, Homeslice Pizza or Lucy's Fried Chicken for food; Hotel San Jose, the Continental Club or C-Boy's for drinks and music; or borrow my bike to go downtown, to Zilker Park or to the East Side.
Colorful old houses, decorated yards, winding streets, dramatic hillsides and densely wooded trails and creeks all add to Travis Heights' unique character.
The house is just two blocks from the Capital Metro bus lines that can take you straight into downtown Austin. If you have a car, there is parking in the back of the house. It's a 15-minute drive from the airport or a fairly direct route on the 100 bus line.
No pets, please. Smoking is OK outside.
Beth met us at her house and gave us a breakdown of the area and the accessibility to Zilker Park for the ACL Festival. We could have taken a bus, but the proximity to S. Congress with all its amenities/shops made for an entertaining walk. There is a supermarket nearby, so getting snacks/food for our stay was a cinch.
Beth was great to communicate with in the lead-up to my stay and her home proved ideal for my trip. A quick bus or cab ride downtown, it's also just a few blocks away from 24-hour grocery stores and restaurants. Furthermore, it's on a quiet side street that helps ensure you get some sleep (which is always in short supply on any trip to Austin).
I would highly recommend staying at Beth's home! This was our first time using airbnb and I hope every experience will be this great! Beth met us at her house, recommended some great local places and made sure we were comfortable. Her charming house is a few blocks from the south congress shops and restaurants...allowing us to walk everywhere.
I'm a writer and editor from Texas, and I live in a vibrant, leafy neighborhood in the SoCo area of Austin -- just off of South Congress Avenue in Travis Heights. My neighborhood's got great restaurants (Thai, Italian, Mexican, cupcakes and two amazing pizza places), swimming, people-watching on S. Congress, vintage shopping and proximity to the best parts of Central Austin.
