The waterfall behind this place is stunning. It's impossible to capture its full magnitude in photos, but suffice to say that hanging out on the deck was one of the highlights of our trip. Comfortable and very spacious.
Although we arrived in the evening, we were given a warm welcome on arrival and given a tour of this beautiful house. The instructions and contact details left with us were very clear.
Waterfall Retreat is located a short drive from Hilo but it was so peaceful it felt as if it was in its own little world. The views from the house of the waterfall are stunning.
The house is very spacious, very clean and well maintained. I loved the artwork. There are very good kitchen, laundry and bathroom facilities, (soap, shampoo, hair dryer). Tea and very nice coffee was provided and we were able to shop conveniently in Hilo. The bedrooms were spacious and nicely furnished, and the beds were very clean and very comfortable. The view from the bedroom window was just perfect to wake up to.
The Dining Areas were lovely but we ate all our meals on the lanai, watching the waterfall at breakfast time and listening to the sound of the water and the Coque frogs in the evening. I expected to be attacked by insects in the evening but was very pleasantly surprised that this was not the case.
We had no trouble accessing the Internet. In fact, we have no complaints at all.
Waterfall Retreat is located in a perfect place for exploring the island of Hawaii, it is about 30mins from Volcano National Park and about 20 mins from Akaka Falls.
Our time in Hawaii was just magical, it is a very diverse, interesting and beautiful island. Staying at Waterfall Retreat just completed this amazing time. Thank you for allowing us to stay.
Such a beautiful house, perched on the edge of the Wailuku. We arrived the day after nearly 4 inches of rain fell and the waterfall was truly amazing, even for us Pacific Northwesterners.
Our days were mostly spent exploring the island, so much of our time spent at the house was after dark, when the frogs and little green lizards populate the porch. The sound of the falls and the songs of the frogs made for a great night's sleep, and Wilson, the neighbor cat comes around to the south slider about 9 or so to say "hello."
We really loved Hilo, and were glad to be so close to downtown. We visited the Kona side of the island for an afternoon, and were so glad we decided to stay in Hilo. Its a really charming town that doesn't feel like a tourist trap.
We swam with honu at Richardson Beach, had good plate lunch just about everywhere we ate, and just felt really relaxed in Hilo.
This is a perfect home base to explore the island from, as long as you appreciate the rain and the songs of a thousand frogs.
The house was all I expected. The location is amazing and so peaceful and listening to the tree frogs each night was amazing. My family had a great time there, only wish we could have stayed longer. My parents especially loved the morning visits from Wilson, the neighbor kitty. Thanks to Kristie and Kari for hosting us.
Thank you for your review and for your suggestion with the AC. I will highly suggest this to the owner. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and I am sorry that your parents were uncomfortable with the heat. I hope you arrived safely back in Ohio.
The house was as gorgeous as the photo’s depicted, and the waterfall in the backyard was stunning. As we were on a girl’s trip we fully utilised the 3 bedrooms, and 3 bathrooms was an absolute blessing.
A 20 minute stroll to town on mostly pitch black roads, it was close enough to walk whilst having the sense of tranquillity away from the hustle and bustle.
Kari and Kristie made collection of the keys super easy and provided us with several maps to start our exploration.
Highly recommended if you want a little bit of luxury and serenity whilst in Hilo.
