The master bedroom in this 1899 home has its own deck overlooking Puget Sound. You will love waking up to the sight of it first thing in the morning. There are two bathrooms across the hall, one of which belongs to this room and the other of which belongs to the airbnb suite on the third floor. You have full use of the rest of the home including a full kitchen, living room, dining room and washer/dryer. Wireless is also available plus TVs. The bed in this room is queen sized and has a down topper which gives it a special cuddliness. You will have fresh sheets and towels on the first day. Upkeep of the rooms becomes your responsibility after the first day.
There are numerous restaurants in the area all less than 1-2 miles away. University of Puget Sound is less than a mile away and the downtown hospitals, museums and convention center are all about 2-3 miles away. Joint Base Lewis McChord and Madigan Army Medical Center are about 20 minutes down I-5. Tacoma has some public transportation but it can be hard to get around if you are dependent on public transportation so you are better off if you have access to a car. There is ample free parking on the street. University of Puget Sound does have a zip car station.
Kathie, the homeowner, and Elphie, her dog drop in from time to time and use another bedroom, also on the second floor, sharing whichever bathroom is free when needed. Elphie loves to meet the airbnb guests...she believes all guests come just to visit her.
I enjoyed my stay here, which would be even better in the warmer months, as there is a balcony off the main room upstairs plus a good-sized front porch, and the view is really fabulous. There are about 30-40 steps up to the front door, which of course are necessary for the lovely view....., but they might be challenging for some. Parking is in front on a pretty busy street, so you'll want to park on the same side as the house so as not to risk your neck crossing. You don't actually notice the traffic noise very much, since you're so high up. It's also on a pretty steep hill, so turn your tires into the curb. You do have access to the whole house, depending on whoever else is there, which is nice, but as there are no curtains on the main level, I didn't enjoy hanging out there at night. In the daytime, it would be grand (see comments re view!) The bed has a very deep mattress pad, and the room itself plus the bathroom are very nice. There was another lodger on the top level, but I hardly saw her.
My only concern was that it took the owner sometimes several days to get back to me with instructions, or when I had a question, so don't leave it till the last minute.
This home is an absolute treasure! The room is even better then advertized! The view from the room is one of the best from Tacoma, it is a very large room with a great bed and plenty of clothing storage! Kathie is an amazing host, always willing to help with what ever is needed, if there are questions or concerns she is quick to respond and will be around if needed. I would reccomend Katie and her beautiful home to anybody visiting the Tacoma area!
Breath taking view! The place is awesome too! We arrived in the late night, tired, went to bed soon. When we woke up, the whole lake was in our window! That was easily the high point of our day. The bed was very comfortable too. Got a really good rest
Beautiful View of Puget Sound. Great location. Kathie is friendly and helpful.
Loved my stay at Kathie's. I, unfortunately, did not get to meet her, but her space was lovely. And the view was beautiful!! Exactly what I needed!
Kathie's place is absolutely amazing, spacious and beautiful! Too bad that we didnt get to meet her and her dog in person but she left a very detailed note for us. We took on her local knowledge and went down to a tavern just down the road. The band playing there on Saturday night was so good! We certainly enjoyed the local scene at the old town Tacoma. Not to mention the room (we actually had the whole house to ourselves) was massive with an awesome view. We actually booked her place the night before we left Vancouver. Thanks so much for her prompt response and generosity that we got to have a great first stop from Vancouver. Highly recommend this place!
Wonderful view of Puget Sound....the space is private and clean with a very nice bed. This home is in an interesting area of Tacoma. Old Town is lovely, with excellent walking along the waterfront, good places to eat, or a fun walk up to the neighborhood of the Proctor District. The hostess provided breakfast items, including fresh fruit and offered the use of the kitchen if I wanted to prepare other food.
My boyfriend and I stopped at Kathie's for a night before heading off to a tour in Europe. She and her super well-behaved dog were so incredibly welcoming to us. Kathie is very laid-back and attentive too. The room itself has a spectacular view. The house is very charming with a lot of old-Americana details. It is also in a great location--situated only 30min. away from Sea-tac in a cute neighborhood along the water and right off the freeway. I would definitely recommend staying at Kathie's.
A beautiful space with an inspirational view and awesome host! Kathie is a wonderful person to meet and her home was truly a restorative experience!
