Close to Downtown, 15min. to Maracana, 40min to Ipanema and Copacabana!
Congenial couple in a large 3-bedroom house. English and Portuguese spoken. I am a registered Tour Guide, and can help with your Tourism needs both inside and outside of Rio.
Unusually nice home near the hub of all the major transportation routes both in Rio and for the rest of Brazil. Large communal kitchen and large communal living room. Very large patio area with a garden where we grow flowers, herbs, and veggies.
You have access to your private room, and the communal bathrooms, living room and kitchen, as well as the outdoor areas, including our hammock!
Interaction with Guests
We can interact with you as little or as much as you like. We're intelligent, communicative and enjoy socializing with our guests. Of course, having my own Tourism company, I can assist with any of your tourism needs. I arrange tours
Silver and Jeffery are very nice and helpful. We did enjoy our trip in Rio under their host. We have a good conversation and a cooking lesson.(thanks Silvia:)). The location is good for the carnival as it is walking distance to the sambodromo. Supermarket and bus stop are nearby. If you join carnival in rio and take the bus at terminus , their home is very convenient to reach both within 10-15mins.
Sylvia and Jeff are very nice. They made us feel very welcome. The accomodation is a few mins walk away from the Rodoviaria Novo Rio. Buses to Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon pass from near the house frequently so transport is really not a problem. The area felt quite safe. There is also a supermarket next to the house.
The accomodations are not luxurious and it's a 20 minute bus ride to the beach. However, buses come by pretty often. A good choice for travelers on a budget or those that want to get a taste of the "real" Rio. Silvia and Jeffry were friendly and helpful.
Sylvia is super nice and they supply lovely accommodations off the beaten path in Rio. The hammock is not to be missed!
Excelentes personas,! Estamos muy agradecidos por sus atenciones y cordialidad!
What a lovely, lovely, lovely host! We could not have been more looked after if we had been with our parents. Silvia is such a caring person that you can't help but love her.
The house is very close to the main bus station so if you are wanting to stay near to where you get in from the airport this is ideal. Nearly all the buses pass on the street outside so getting to other locations is not difficult, or expensive and because the house is at the back you do not get the traffic noise. However, I would suggest that if you plan on visiting Copacabana and area everyday you may want to find somewhere closer to that area. If you have tickets to the Sambadrome then this would also be a good location as staying out of the area it would be very hard to get to. I am guessing that travel will be a problem when the football is on in June, so if you have tickets for the Maracana Stadium this would be a good place to stay as if you get really stuck with the traffic you will be able to walk! Even if you think it will be OK to stay somewhere else and get the tube/metro I would not advise it. At one point there was a queue about a mile long to get into the tube/metro station and another was closed.
Silvia speaks very good English, and her husband is American so his English needs some work (sorry Jeffery) and they will both help you get around and offer you good advice. This is a smoking household so if you suffer badly from asthma you may want to be aware of this.
The room in which we stayed had 2 single beds and although there is only one shower we never found this to be a problem. Wifi is possible by 'borrowing' a neighbours, although it does not work all the time.
As an experience overall we are glad we stayed with Silvia. Thank you to both of you xx
