A small, two bedroom house with a very private feel. Inside a gated compound, this gives the visitor an up-close view of life in the rainforest.
By way of thanks for their service, we offer a 20% discount for active and retired military, police and fire fighters.
In our gated property, there is the casita and one other house, about 100 yards away - how much privacy does one need?
We are only about 10 minutes away from Dominical Beach, one of the world's hottest surfing destinations. Other activities in the area include zip-lining, boat tours (often seeing whales and/or dolphins), horse-back riding, rafting, etc. North and south of Dominical, the beaches continue for miles; we can recommend beaches to meet your needs.
We usually have toucans and parrots and occasionally a troop of white-face monkeys spend a week or two here before moving on around their feeding routines. The are always birds especially tanagers and fly-catchers, as well as hummingbirds. There are isolated opportunities to see more exotic animal life. Right now, about seven wild turkeys are living just below the house, you will likely see them on a day-to-day basis.
The casita is self-sufficient, as evidenced by the fact that we lived there for six years before building our house, which you can see at Villa Buena Vista in your search engine.
We will likely be present during your stay -- the degree of interaction is entirely dependent on you, the guest. We have had guests that we saw on check-in and again at check-out, and others that we saw on an almost daily basis. Many people have a lot of questions about life in Costa Rica and we are always happy to share our experiences.
Lagunas de Baru is a small community of about 35 foreigners and 20 locals, traditionally referred to as "ticos". It is quite spread out, so interaction is usually on an as-needed basis. As with many communities here, there is a small, one room elementary school, a church, and a soccer (futbal) field.
We are in a remote part of Costa Rica. The most convenient means of transportation is private vehicle. There is parking for one vehicle at the Casita, with additional parking further into the compound.
There are taxis in Dominical, and the user should know EXACTLY how to get to the Casita at Buena Vista in order to make use of that service. (If that is your choice, we will meet you in Dominical for Check-In and give you a ride to the Casita.)
If you are driving, we will send you driving directions from the airport or other places that you might be visiting during your trip to Costa Rica to our compound. If you are not driving, there are public buses as well as a few private airport services, such as Easy Ride. We can give you more information as you require.

We really enjoyed our stay at the casita. It was clean, comfortable, private, and well equipped. Loved our little taste of the jungle. Spent many hours relaxing in the hammock and lounging on the deck soaking in the sights and sounds. Woke up to the bird song each morning, seeing many varieties including our daily pair of toucans, and were even treated to a visit from the white faced capuchin monkeys.
Bob and Leslie are great hosts with a wealth of information about Costa Rica in general and local attractions, they made sure we had the best visit possible. A great place for anyone looking to stay off the beaten path.
