About This Listing
Charming, compact and peaceful room on the wonderful Osney Island, only 5 minutes walk from train station. With sloping ceiling, rooftop views, small ensuite shower and a very comfy king sized bed. Tea making facilities provided in your room.
My sitting room just to get feel for house (although a few baby toys have been added since this photo taken)
The room is up two flights of stairs.
I live in a terraced house, that could perhaps be described as arty. It is a home not a hotel with fluctuations of controlled chaos!
Interaction with Guests
I leave some snacks and fruit in your room but don't offer breakfast as a standard rule. Most people seem to like to go out to a local café. But if I am about am delighted to provide the kind of breakfast you like for a small extra cost...to be discussed/agreed.
Osney island is one of Oxford's secret locations, surprisingly unknown to many. An area of houses that are bordered by the Thames or tributaries with a great local pub The Punters. You are right on the footpath that leads to Portmeadow, so only a 10 minute walk to open landscape. The train station is 5 minutes by foot and the Centre of town only 15 minutes or a hop on the bus!
I live with my husband and 2 1/2 year old son, so there are a certain amount of toys to be navigated (and I don't mean my husband's super new hedge cutter!)
The room is ideal. It's very cosy, clean and practical. The neighborhood is really great, it's charming, green and silent but at the same time very close to the city centre.
Sophie is a really good host. She is very accommodating, making sure the guest has everything (s)he needs. And you can also share a truly interesting and open chat with her over a cup of tea.
Sophie has thought of everything and is an absolutely glorious host! You will be in great hands. The room, setting, bed, everything is as described, very comfortable and relaxing. Easy walk into central Oxford, or lovely run/walk along the Thames tow path that passes in front of the house. Special place.
Sophie was so warm and welcoming, and it was great to have a chat with her over a cup of tea when I arrived. The room is spacious and freshly decorated with lots of light (though if you are tall, watch out for the low ceilings on the edges, standard in any conversion). The house is on a picturesque canal, and convenient to city centre. I enjoyed my stay and will certainly plan to come again!
The attic room is a wonderful place to stay in Oxford. Sophie, her sweet little son and husband are very welcoming and they make sure you have everything you need for a pleasant stay. The room is very comfortable, light and even a bit more spacious than I expected. The location is perfect, in walking distance from the train station and center of Oxford. Also making a walk along the river is highly recommended. But Sophie makes sure you get to know all of this.
I recommend this lodging. The accommodation is as described. The room has enough space, a small desk and a proper washroom. It looks as new, and it is clean, with plenty of light. It can accommodate two persons.
Sophie is an extraordinary host, very nice and flexible. I am grateful for her efforts to provide me the accommodation with the short notice I gave her. The whole family is welcoming and nice, and in now way I was disturbed by noise or other.
Sophie puts a lot of care in details to make the stay as enjoyable as possible, and was supportive thought the week I stayed, going out of her way to assist me when was necessary.
The house is set over the river, which is beautiful with the sun, and a few minutes away from Said Business school and the city center.
Things you should consider are the narrow staircase to access the room, which was not a problem for me with my carry-on, and the fact it is an attic which could provide challenging for very tall people (>1.90 meters)
If I return to Oxford I would stay with her again.
Great room with ensuite bathroom in a gorgeous house in a superb setting, right on the river and minutes from the railway station. I was made to feel very welcome by a lovely family. Highly recommended.
