The Space

Stay in our rustic farm house, hike our 50 acres and learn about living a sustainable life as you tour our projects. For a limited time we're offering this discounted price

Our farm consists of a coffee/banana plantation, various fruit trees, pasture, forest, chickens, guinea hens and goats. Everyday you can see tucans, 100s of bird species and slothes among the trees.

We normally have between 1-3 small private rooms and one very rustic cabin available not far from our main house.

Main House:
Our main farm house is an old expanded rustic farm house with 2 levels. Bedrooms on top level with a community kitchen and eating area below. Kitchen and community areas are open air. and bedrooms pretty much closed off.

Expect rustic living here but we live happily on our farm with all the essentials.

Creature Comforts:
Of course we have we have electricity, running water and toilets in a large tiled bathroom. We also have high speed wireless internet available to guests and a guest computer to share. Hot solar showers when the sun is shinning which is most days. Temperatures are normally 74F all year round so no need for AC or Heating here.

You can bring your own food and use our community kitchen or our in house tica host can optionally prepare local Costarican food for $6/meal per person whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Most of the year we can provide all the bananas you can eat for guests and coffee if you help process and roast it.
Or If you like, bring your own food and use our community kitchen.

On going farm projects:
* On going work with coffee and banana management of from
* Use of Effective Micro-Organisms
* Bamboo and earth building.
* Large solar dehydration
* Biodigestor
* Growing floating azolla as animal food suppliments
* Aquapoincs, gardening, solar projects and more.

If you are a serious worker and want to stay longer term, we are open to various arrangements.

A bus gets you within a 30 walk but we can arrange a ride or taxi to pick you up in a nearby town for about $20.

A great place to enjoy a peaceful farm life, nature, read or write a book, do some farm work or just relax.

Interaction with Guests

Also note that the price you pay here on airbnb is for your room and stay. If you stay less than a week and have lots of questions about our farm, Costa Rica, or want a walking talking tour to the waterfall we'd be happy to have a person available to entertain you but we have to charge and extra $30 for one person or $50 per group for about 4-5 hours of walking and or answering questions. You would pay for this after your stay is confirmed with airbnb and before your arrival once we confirm a date.

If you stay a week or more, chances are we will have time inbetween our normal chores and work schedule to answer most of your questions

Other Things to Note

Please Note:
You must be confirmed and paid 3 days before your arrival so we can prepare on our side. In some cases we can do same day arrivals but normally a 3 day notice is necessary.

It's sometimes possible for us to arrange horseback riding for 3-4 persons for a fair price if horses are ready and available. If you have interest in such please ask.

  • One of the highlights of our vacation was having the opportunity to wind down and feel right at home on the farm. My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights at the start of our backpacking trip , we enjoyed this place so much we had to come back for another three nights at the end of our trip. If you love animals and nature this place is for you! I promise coming here will only make your trip 100% that much better.

    Some of the things we did on the farm
    - Made our own organic delicious coffee
    - ate endless amounts of bananas
    - Walked all around the farm trying and tasting new things ( different leaves we could taste)
    - Picked fresh pineapple
    - Walked to a near by waterfall on property with the dogs!
    - Ask for dinner here you wont regret it, Ben's wife happens to make the most beautiful amazing food ever!
    -make home made lemonade from the lemon tree
    - Relax all day and read

    This place is one of a kind and i plan on coming back soon! Thanks so much for a beautiful stay here.
    So much gratitude & love-

  • Ben was prompt in his reply to my booking request. He sent us detailed directions to his farm house equally promptly.

    With no connection to Ben's lodgings, my 22YO son's and my travel plans torqued in Corcovado, which delayed our trek north to San Isidro de El General; we did not stay at his Sustainable FarmHouse after all. A missed experience! (But Costa Rica is wonderful, particularly impressive for the eco-friendly systems in place. Ben's place would have taken that to a new level, I anticipate.)

  • This was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had with airbnb!! I've been interested in off-grid, organic lifestyles and this was a wonderful way to gain some knowledge on the subject!! Beautiful hikes of their property, waterfalls, and all you can eat bananas made this experience perfect. Also, great to have our young sons (similar ages) to interact. My only regret is not staying longer.

  • Ben's farm was lovely -- a great way to get to know the Costa Rican countryside. Ben was extremely flexible and very willing to share his knowledge about farming and sustainable living, which was very appreciated. The room was comfortable, the kitchen had all the necessities and we had a fabulous time!

  • Had a great week on ecojoya farm. Very away from it all and surrounded by every part of nature.
    Did some (voluntary) heavy work harvesting bananas which was a great experience. Lots of incredible views wherever you go and beautiful waterfalls and rivers really near by. Ben and Adriana were great hosts and Adriana's cooking was brilliant. Also two of the best dogs ever! Great relaxing, inspiring week. Thanks again.

  • We had a very relaxing and comfortable time at Ben's ecolodge. Ben was very hospitable, his wife's cooking was superb, the accommodations were basic but sufficient, nature was plentiful and the general atmosphere was very, very pleasant.
    Going to Ben's place by bus is a bit of a struggle, but once there it's definitely worth it.
    Be sure to visit the waterfalls on his property, it's a nice walk and they are beyond amazing.

  • If you are looking for an authentic mountain farm stay then this is your place. Ben is a friendly and knowledgeable host who offers travelers the opportunity to see how a small sustainable farm works. We stayed in the main house, which has rustic but comfortable accomodations. The kitchen is basic but included what we needed to cook our meals. As the place is a working farm, there are animals such as goats, hens and other birds living near the house. Ben was very happy to take us around and share his experience in starting and maintaining a farm in Costa Rica. We ate bananas from his trees while watching Toucans fly around in the mornings. Getting up early was made easy by the resident rooster ;) The views from the farm include an amazing view across the valley all the way to Mount Chirripo. The weather up there is constantly pleasent. This place is off the beaten path... quite a ways up into the mountains. Ideally, you should plan to stay here for at least a few days.
