DESCRIPTION:
Private room and bathroom in quiet neighborhood centrally located in San Diego. The property is a midcentury modern split ranch 3bd/2ba. There's plenty of street parking if you'll have a car.
Be near all and be able to wake up to birds while still within the city limits.
Your Bedroom has a full sized bed, dresser, TV, and closet (plus iron and ironing board).
You also have your own personal bathroom with shower. There are toiletry items in the bathroom cabinet if you need them.
Your bedroom and bath are separated from the rest of the house by a door.
There is space just outside the private area which can accommodate an airmattress for a 3rd guest (I'd separate this with a curtain).

All linens (sheets+towels) are provided and freshly laundered.
You also have access to the kitchen and laundry if you wish to prepare meals or refresh some clothes when you arrive from a previous destination or before you leave.

NEED AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION?:
Taxi or Shuttle service will run approx $30-$40, depending on service.

We all look to find the best place that fits our budget and desires.
Even if you decide not to stay at our location, please feel free to ask any questions that you may have unanswered from another host. We just want you to have a good stay in this wonderful city.

I've really enjoyed the people I've met while hosting (and travelling) using airbnb. I want you to have the best possible stay and get the personal touch that hotels can't offer at an affordable price.

Happy Travels!

Guest Access

Guests have access to the central living area and the right (northern) side of the house, which contains the dining room, kitchen, laundry room, and the outside courtyard. These are separated from the guest area by a door, where guests have a private bathroom and their bedroom.

Interaction with Guests

This is completely dependent on what guests wish and my personal schedule. I want the guests to feel at home and not like they are invading my life. If my schedule permits, I'm happy to show guests around town, be a designated driver for brew tours, or have a feast in the courtyard with friends and neighbors. I'll spend most of the initial time in the office or garage to give you space and be slightly invisible, until you decide if you want more interaction. I'll be available mostly thru text or email through the weekdays and will respond as soon as possible while i'm at work, in case you need anything. I'm more flexible on most weekends.

The Neighborhood

The homes in my neighborhood were built in the late 1940s. My block is located at the far north end before it drops into canyon, in a quiet part of the neighborhood that has a very '70s style vibe to it. I know most of my neighbors on my block and we all look out for one another. There are always people walking their children, both humans and furry ones throughout the day, along with joggers

Getting around

Most guests come with a vehicle, which I do strongly recommend. A number have used the public transportation, but I am not very familiar with it myself.

The nearest bus stop is approx 5 blocks (0.7mi, 1.13km, 10-15 min walk) off El Cajon Blvd & Winona.
The area at El Cajon Blvd is Little Saigon and there are restaurants and shops around, but most everything is Vietnamese, so not much variety.

  • Kevin is a super friendly, outgoing and nice person. It didn't really felt for me and my friend living wih a random host. It was more like living with a roommate. I'm sure that he would also just respect your privacy if you're not that outgoing! But we were lucky to chat with him:) the backyard is super nice for a relaxing evening! We really enjoyed our stay at his place. The room and neighborhood is great. So go ahead and book it. I'm actually pretty picky about where and with whom I'm staying but that was for sure a good decision.

  • This was our first airbnb and we didn't know what to expect, but meeting Kevin, my boyfriend at I were immediately at ease. First, Kevin was so accommodating with our schedule! We arrived slightly after we were supposed to due to traffic from LA, but Kevin was nothing less than welcoming!

His house was just beautiful and very home-y, and the room was just as pictured. We loved that Kevin provided some toiletries for us (shampoo, toothpaste, the works!), and was very open to answering our questions about house rules and local eateries/attractions. We stayed out late our first night and were able to sleep in the next day without disruption!

Overal: a fantastic stay in a safe, serene, and quiet neighborhood. Kevin is a great host and his house was perfect.

  • Our second time at Kevin's home. We love it there. Absolute privacy in your bed/bath suite with its own private entrance, and when you do see Kevin, it's always so nice. He's helpful and attentive to all of your needs. Just someone really that would be fun to know in our own town.

  • I cannot stress how amazing our stay with Kevin was. He was so friendly and helpful, even before we met. He had great tips for where we should go and what to do, eat, see in San Diego. He gave us a lot of insight into a typical San DIegan lifestyle as well.

As for his place, it was immaculate. The bedroom was super clean. The shower is private and very nice. The laundry room is right there as well. You basically have your own living space, except for the kitchen that you'd share if you needed to. We stored some stuff in the kitchen, but that gave us a chance to chat with Kevin and get to know him better. We will definitely be back for sure. He made our experience of San Diego completely amazing

  • We only stayed at Kevin's place for one night in the middle of our trip but the experience was great. Kevin really made us feel at home in his house. He showed us everything, set the coffee machine for us in the morning and gave us great tips for the zoo which we were going to visit the next day. All in all, a great host and would definitely stay at his house again in the future.

  • Sara and I had had our first Airbnb experience at Kevin's house. We spent five nights in a cozy, clean, spacious and full equipped room with private bathroom. I could go ahead and describe all of the details that made our staying really comfortable and unique, but I'd rather like to get straight to the core of what made our experience so awesome and unforgettable: it was Kevin. For us, to find such a person - caring and deeply sensitive - just did make the difference. In a certain way our wish was to discover and learn something more about American culture, about the American "every-day-life". Well, Kevin made all this possible. He did share time with us. He did share his point of view with us. We enjoyed it so much. And in the end, we found out that he is a guy like us. Very much alike to Sara and I. We did really find a friend in San Diego. And this is far more than a vacation. This is priceless and just remains for a lifetime.
    Grazie Kevin, a presto!

  • This is my third visit with Kevin.
The house is perfect, the location is perfect and Kevin is a perfect host.
Kevin gave me a quick tour of the SD which really helped in getting around later.
Looking forward to my next visit.

  • Thank you Kevin. I stayed some days at your place and had a fantastic time. The house is very nice in a quiet neighbourhood and you are a great host; kind and helpful. I can really recommend your place!

  • I booked my room with Kevin during Comic Con weekend. I had a single room and my friend had a separate room in the common area. Kevin was very helpful with directions around SD and even got us discounted tickets to the San Diego Zoo. His place was very comfortable and I would stay there again next year.

  • Kevin was a fantastic host - very welcoming and friendly. We didn't get a chance to talk to him much, but he seemed very open and we wish we had had more time. His house is beautiful and nearby to everything we wanted to do and our room was clean and comfortable. We'd definitely stay there again if we are back in the San Diego area.

About
I'm a biologist in academic research by day and musician at night. I also volunteer at the Zoo doing behavioral research on the Giant Pandas. Somehow i manage to find time to play soccer in a league and enjoy outdoor activities like kayaking and snorkeling or hiking the nearby mountains. I'm a big fan of craft beers and enjoy taking advantage of San Diego's numerous breweries. I also try to make it up to the vineyards each harvest and frequent farmer's markets. I'm much more a person who appreciates the local businesses of my neighbors rather than the corporate chains. I've really enjoyed having travelers stay at my home (hosting since July 2011). Thanks to Airbnb, I've met a lot of wonderful people and made some great friends, whom I keep in touch with and visit. I began using this site as a way to give back, by offering a low cost, safe and friendly travel option. It reminded me of how my ancestors would open their doors to family and friends during their travels. That is my goal for your visit: to feel welcomed as a long-lost friend or distant family member, rather than a random stranger passing through (as you get in hotels). I'm not really a host. I want you to feel like this is your home too. As the old saying goes... "I'm not only a member, but also a client" I do the majority of my travel, staying at airbnb locations. Hope to see you soon.
