You'll have a simple, reasonably sized room with all the necessities: heat, hot water, warm bed, air-conditioning, and wireless internet. Bathroom and kitchen right down the hall. Great home base for business at Columbia or exploring the whole city.
Room for rent in a two-bedroom apartment between Riverside and Central Park at the top of Manhattan's Upper West Side. Columbia University and the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine are both two blocks up.
I do not have pets.
The room comes equipped with:
-futon (57 x 80 inches/ 145 x 203 cm with pocket spring mattress)
-a privacy latch that allows you to lock the door from the inside
There is also a big ironing board and iron you're welcome to use.
There's wireless internet, air-conditioning, and heating throughout the apartment.
There is easy access to the kitchen and bathroom, which are both right next to the guest bedroom. You're welcome to use everything in the kitchen: fridge, stove, oven, sink, dining table, and utensils. There is plenty of room in the fridge for your groceries and some shelf space for dry foods.
Interaction with Guests
I am here to welcome you and answer any questions you have about my place or my neighborhood. I enjoy interacting with guests, although my schedule has gotten much more busy since returning to school.
Columbia University has a big presence in my neighborhood and there are always lots of students out and about.
There are a ton of great restaurants up and down Broadway and Amsterdam. A walk to either Riverside or Central Park is just a few minutes.
Columbia's main campus is four blocks up; Cathedral of St. John the Divine is two blocks up.
The Subway (1 train, with express train two stops down) is one block over on Broadway. Your total travel time to Times Square, for instance, would be less than 15 minutes, from the time you caught the 1 train to the time your express train arrived in the station.
Other Things to Note
A laundromat is right downstairs where you can launder your clothes yourself, or drop them off to keep adventuring.
There is a pub with good food right downstairs as well.
Ask as many questions as you like - I usually respond right away.
Please respect my three simple rules:
Please do not bring animals
Please do not have visitors
Please do not smoke in the apartment
Thank you for being a responsible guest.
Spencer is a great, helpful host who made everything very easy for me, and gave me a lot of advice. The place is perfect for anyone who's looking for a base from which to explore the area, or if they're looking for something short-term near Columbia. The neighborhood is great, and you're close to the 1 train.
Spencer was a fantastic host! Really made the stay very convenient and comfortable. Always willing to help out in any way he can. The neighborhood is safe and very conveniently located. Several places to eat and shop near the apartment. Definitely recommend staying here!!
Spencer is a very affable and friendly host. He responded very promptly to all my messages, was happy to offer recommendations for things to do and genuinely cared that I had a good time in New York. The apartment was great and I had everything I needed. The location is very convenient, right by the subway and the area is very peaceful for Manhattan. Spencer was kind enough to get up very early in the morning to see me off. Thoroughly recommended!
The experience was totally satisfactory. Spencer is very friendly, respectful, always willing to help where needed. Complies with everything offered and the comforts necessary for a fall day in NYC. The neighborhood is quite nice, quiet, beautiful surroundings. The location of the apartment was correct. Absolutely recommended.
Spencer is such a great host. He is very communicative, kind, thoughtful and reply to my questions so fast. I didn't need to worry about anything.
My flight was delayed and I arrived at his place so late at night, but he waited for me and welcomed warm and helped me to carry my luggage.
The room is clean and tidy just like the picture, and has all the necessities (AC, wifi, bath towel, hair dryer, many hangers). There's a heater and it worked perfect.
Spencer keeps his place so clean anytime, and he is very kind, fun to talk to, but he is also very good at giving privacy.
I would definitely recommend his place and also stay his place again next time I visit NY. Thank you so much Spencer:)
Nice apartment, bed is quite comfortable, neighborhood is lovely, Spencer is a very affable guy. No complaints, everything was good.

Being a host on airbnb is great. I have had the chance to meet people from around the world and share at least one interesting conversation with many of them. I enjoy welcoming people to this amazing city and do my best to help my guests feel comfortable.
A little about me: I'm a grad student at Teachers College and enjoy basketball, public speaking, nights out with friends, and reading. I would like to get back to traveling sometime but I tend to go on extended adventures and right now I'm more or less dedicated to New York.
