A hand-rebuilt stone cabin

A 1940s mining ruin rebuilt by hand over nine winters into a cozy stone retreat with a covered patio

It took my husband nine winters to rebuild the ruin from the miners back in the 40's. It has a 10" memory full size mattress, a light, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, microwave, and an outdoor covered patio area with a refrigerator. It is rustic and special at the same time. It has an electric heater for cool nights and a small AC for warmer ones. We have WiFi on the compound, however, reception in the rock Ruin is iffy at best, reception is in the Patio area of the Ruin and common area,

The space
The ruin is located in the Ghost Town and within walking distance to restaurants, gift shops, and bars. It was rebuilt by my husband Joe, it took 9 years (winters) to finally get it roofed with a cement floor. The Ruin has it's own 1/2 bath, the toilet has a bidet attached to it. We also have a compost on the compound.

Guest access
The ruin has it's own covered outside sitting area with an awesome view of the Chisos Mountains. The separate 1/2 bath (toilet and sink) is next to the Ruin and is designated for Ruin guests. Since the 1/2 bath does not have a shower, we have 3 showers to choose from on the compound, they are also used by other guests as well.

Other things to note
Wifi will not work in the Ruin because it is made of rock, and many times not even in the Patio area. To get wifi, it is best to go to the tables in the common area on the compound if it is not working in the Ruin's patio.

Neighborhood highlights

La Posada Milagro (breakfast spot in the Ghost Town) has free wifi and makes a wonderful breakfast. The Boathouse Bar....it is our favorite and our next door neighbor, it is a full bar, so you can go the the Boathouse first and mosey on to The Starlight Theater which is great for live nightly music and dinner....the El Dorado also offers nightly music and dinner along with La Kiva (everybody needs to visit La Kiva just for the architecture alone with huge sandstone rocks and old wood tables). Also the Rustic Iron BBQ is very good and located within walking distance, it is located on the side of the cemetery about a 1/2 block down.

Joe and I are retired photographers who have lived and played in the Terlingua area for over 25 years, there is so much to do, we have not even scratched the surface....we are constantly finding new adventures. We are close to Mexico, which is so fun, the Rio Grand for float trips, and to some of the most pristine mountain biking and hiking trails anywhere.
