Other Things to Note
For the food, my mother is a good cooker of rural vietnamese food with fresh vegetable from her own garden. You can order a meal if you would like, the price is 10$ for one person.
For walking around, It is our pleasure to organise all these, let me know when ever you come to our house.
Had a lovely stay, as it is a short cab ride away from the centre we felt like we were in a small village, a walk through the rice fields, vegetable gardens and the working fields which overlook the city and the river we kept commenting that we couldn't believe the centre of town was so close by. Breakfast was simple but lovely. The house has a quirky vibe but I like that.
we had such a wonderful stay here. the home itself was really interesting and unique, and the bed super comfortable. Thai helped us arrange a Ha Long Bay tour with almost no notice, as well as recommending several places to see and dine at. Thai also took us down to the local market on his motorcycle too for traditional vietnamese breakfast of pho one morning!! the home is outside of the hustle and bustle so it's really peaceful and just a very quick trip by cab into town. we cant wait to come back :)
Thai's house is a very unique place. We stayed there with him for four nights. Thai himself was a very discrete person, so one would not even notice his presence. On the down side, don't expect to sleep long as this is a traditional wooden house surrounded by workshops starting very early in the morning. We stayed there in winter time, so I missed the heating greatly; even more I appreciated the fireplace. While I am happy we tried this one out, I would not do it again. Frankly,100EUR a night is exaggerated, especially, since for whatever reason we did not get any breakfast (ehm, except for a very nice tea and two pieces of dragon fruit we had to specifically ask for the day before...)
Thank you to staying at Thai's house. We are sorry that you donot feel happy to stay in Thai's house. The breakfast, Thai said that you waked up late and he was afraid of food would be cold and not good. I told Thai right way the day you left. He did sorry for that,
The price is 100 USD not EURO a night and for the lunch, you forgot to pay us.
(I remembered you had told me that you put on the table, but we could not find it). Anyway. We thanked for staying with us and hope you was in time for Halong bay tour.
I had a fantastic stay at Thai's. The house has a rustic charm with wooden floors, huge windows, stone pathways and a neat Bonsai garden. It's adorned with beautiful paintings, and other interesting artistic elements. The room has a bathtub in one side, and to my surprise does function.
Thai is a wonderful host and was great to hang out with. He cooked up delicious breakfasts, and I enjoyed having dinner with him at a local joint nearby.
The house is a bit far from the main town area (around 5kms). So the lovely lady who manages the bookings for the place helped me get a motorcycle at a good price, so I could ride around Hanoi.
Staying at Thai's was one of the highlights of my Hanoi trip, and I would highly recommend staying here!
A beautiful house in a nice suburb of Hanoi, this place completely lives up to the pictures, and is full of great details. Thai's artwork is very cool, the bed is comfy and we really loved his bonsai garden. He was a very gracious host, helping us to call cabs and cooking up a great breakfast, as well as a delicious dinner and lunch. The location is also nice - next to the lake with small food shops that also sell the local brew Bia Hoi. It's worth remembering, however, this isn't a hotel: the shower isn't v powerful and the bath tub is only for decoration. You might also want to pack earplugs, as cockerels start crowing early (there was also some drilling from a workshop next door but Thai said he is going to sort that out by arranging for them not to work while guests are staying). Overall, we really enjoyed staying in this unique, exceptionally beautiful property and seeing another side of Hanoi! We stayed in winter, but we think in summer with the windows thrown open and wildlife in bloom etc it would be even better.
Interesting home and enjoyed staying somewhere 'different'. Location slightly away from central Hanoi but Thai helped arrange a scooter which made it very convenient. Great breakfasts! Would recommend staying here but know how you travel into city if you need to.
