I live within a 1/2 mile from two (2) police stations...one is a police training station.
At ANY given time, you will see several police patrols going up and down the street, to and from the station. There is only so much precaution a traveller can take, but its always nice to know that protection is just AT the corner. So be safe! For those who need additional security, feel free to take advantage of my night time free shuttle from the nearest train stop!
I will admit, there are better areas in Chicago but none will be as memorable as your stay here! If you are looking for a posh, well-to-do area, DO NOT BOOK HERE! hehehe This is an urban inner city community that has undergone nice redevelopment due to the brand new college recently built (but has some work to be done). I live near a beautiful massive park with a full running track, community center /swimming and children's playground.

We were two girls travelling to Chicago and our first advise is: if you don't know Chicago get informed about this neighborhood! It is almost the last stop on the subway, far away from the loop ( center of the city), nothing to do in the area so if you plan to go out, you will have to be back before 9 because after that time the trains get rare and the neighborhood dangerous. Nonya was nice full of advises and smiling but we arrived in the morning around 9 and followed here advise to get home but the door was locked we waited 1:30h in the garden, happily it was sunny. To finish, for those who plan to stay there a long time, be prepeared to share a house with almost 20 people. Now if you want to be cheap like we did at least you know where you are going to.
Sorry I couldn't remember these 2 girls. Thats why I didn't write a review (even after looking in my notes). The CITY is not the greatest at night. Im not sure why they didn't take the bus route that comes directly to my door if they were arriving before 10 p.m. or call me for pickup from 10pm to 2 a.m. from the nearest train. The city is big and the train ride to the loop is 30 minutes. As for the entry, everyone receives the gate and door codes the day before if they followed the information on my website with regards to check in. You must contact me the day before with your arrival time. If they had contacted me, they would have received all codes...no waiting outside no where. If they did not have a code, they would not be waiting in no garden either because I don't have a garden. They would have had to go to the park to wait. And coming in the morning at 9 with me greeting them? Not even. I don't wake up past 2 pm since i'm up all night. They would have definately gotten a different set of details for early morning arrivals since I don't wake up that early....ever. As for the house and 20 people....I guess thats her estimate since there are 3 floors in this house. Like I said, I don't remember these guests. My charts even indicate that they never came since they are not even on my detailed calendar that i keep for sleeping arrangements.
Nonya was great!! Easy place to get to and from especially for a first time Chicago visit. The bus drops you off right at the house. Would definitely book again and recommend!! 3 Thank you Nonya for a pleasant stay!
Definitely a value for my 2 night stay! It is just as cozy and clean as it appears. Nonya made me feel very welcome and is a delightful person. She introduced me to several car services that helped me save money as I navigated throughout Chicago. I definitely recommend her residence for its value.
Nonya is such a sweetheart. She is very kind and nice. She explained specifically about Chicago and its neighberhood. Every guest there looked comfortable with the house. I love the cozy place.
This experience was really cool! Nonya was really funny and nice. She told us some interesting story about herself and neighborhood. Although the neighborhood seemed like a little bit dangerous, I was lucky to meet some nice people from different countries to hang out together. And Nonya even gave me a free tour even though I didn't stay for more than 6 nights.
It will be nice place for you if you want to meet new friends and hear some interesting experiences!
Thank you, Nonya!
It was so nice place to stay for us. Even though this place is a little far from downtown, there is no problem to go around. Also, the host, Annie, was sooooo kind and funny, which made us feel comfortable while we stayed :)
Nonya is a very good host and she is friendly, funny and helpful. About safety, I think it isn't that safe because whenever I told someone I stayed there, people said I should be careful. However, Nonya offered pick up after 10pm-2pm from the near station. You should take a taxi at night if you are worried so much . Other things are good
Unfortunately that is the usual response for someone 'telling' what is or is not safe, especially when they never been here. And yet, everytime someone reports 'what their friends said' because the 'internet said so', then they tend to believe it. After all is said and done, your stay was 'uneventful'....nothing happened. lol I only picked up because it was above 35 degrees. When its lower than 35 degrees, nobody is outside which makes it even more uneventful.

I Love Travelers, traveling and everything in between. Born and raised in Chicago, I became an avid traveller and barter enthusiast. I've been travelling for 20 years and could easily write my own book on travelling on a budget. I PRIDE myself on the deals I would obtain. A week in Ireland, rental of two 3 bedroom entire homes for $45! FOUR Chicago Bull playoff games during the Michael Jordan Era included 4th row floor seats, box seats...$100 total! Travelled europe thru 15 countries for $500 including accommodations and food...for a 3 month period! And this was BEFORE Airbnb. I can go on. I'm geeked when I find a deal and become just plain silly with happiness at an unbelievable deal. Even upon confirmation, my website for my guests are filled with free and things to do for CRAZY CHEAP. 'Spend like a spencer, but live like a king!'
Aside from that, my mother was a big enthusiast in education. As the oldest of nine (9), I can tell you that we were not short on activities. Piano lessons on Saturday AND an hour a day, per child of piano practice since 4!; tennis on Sunday, knitting lessons on Tuesday and Thursday, sewing lessons on Wednesday and swim classes on Friday. And tha'ts not including the architectural/drafting studies and woodshop classes that consumed my teenage years in addition. If you are good, I can definately knit you a sweater with a nice cable stitch!
My piano teacher was Professor Zilner Randolph for over 15 years. If you don't know who he is, perhaps you heard of a musician called Louis Armstrong or Duke Ellington? He was Louis Armstrong's musical director, played trumpet on a number of Armstrong's recordings and composed the tune "Old Man Moses'. He also played with Carroll Dickerson and Dave Peyton in the middle of the decade, and led his own Chicago band later in the 1930s. He was an arranger for Duke Ellington, Earl Hines, and others.
Six of my siblings and I were his students for over 15 years.. In fact, one of my brothers, if you wish to look him up for a concert near you, is a worldwide professional jazz pianist and a graduate of Berkley College, with several releases. As for me, I became sidetracked with travel. If you are ever in South Korea, Ecuador, or Florida, you will probably run into five of my sisters/brothers and their familiies. Say hello for me!
My home was built in 1875. So you will find some old and new features within. I'm always in construction to some degree within. Thanks to airbnb, I have been able to complete at least 75% of the renovations. Still have much to do.
I feel everyone should open their minds to new things, cultural experiences and diversity. Only then can you understand people thru their eyes and not some narrow minded media coverage. By letting their experience be your experience will help you better understand people in a true and raw sense. That's why I simply love Airbnb. It places you in parts of the world where you probably wouldn't have gone but always wanted to go to get that 'local' feel with a local and trusted host.
Since I don't travel as much as I used to....Let your experience be my experience!
I look forward to meeting you.
