We live in a warm modern villa in the heart of the Melrose district in West Hollywood. It's clean, comfortable, well-decorated and relaxed. The bedroom features a king-sized bed, full closet and a balcony. The room features a private full bathroom en suite which is unshared. We provide pillows, towels and linen, all of which is freshly cleaned. Our common spaces are very open and very comfortable - we have a private outdoor patio that is very serene, and a sitting area that catches the afternoon sun.
The guests will have access to their room, their private bathroom, and everything on the main floor: the living room / TV area (with a 60 inch flatscreen), the dining room, the kitchen area, the outdoors, and a second bathroom on the main floor. We also provide Wifi and gated, protected parking.
Interaction with Guests
We really like talking with interesting people and we know our city and our neighborhood very well - we're happy to act as tour guide if you'd like recommendations, and we'll most likely invite you to join us for a bite to eat or for a glass of wine. Rest assured, we won't be in your hair - we're young professionals, so we do keep ourselves busy. If you want to come stay with us and do your own thing, that's totally fine as well.
Our neighborhood feels very suburban - quiet, people walking their dogs, kids on bikes -- but we're two blocks south of Santa Monica's busiest strip of night life, and two blocks west of La Cienega's happening strip of bars and restaurants, three blocks north of Beverly/Robertson's vibrant shopping atmosphere and just a few blocks north of the Beverly Center shopping center. We are also very centrally located in terms of the city itself - we're a twenty minute drive to Santa Monica and Venice, 25 minutes from hipster meccas Silverlake and Echopark, 10 minutes from Hollywood itself. Whatever experience you're looking for in LA, our neighborhood offers it. We are also very close to the Cedar Medical Center which is very convenient if you are a visiting medical professional, patient or family member of a patient. Our house is just up the street (literally - 6 houses away) from the famous Urth Caffe which features fantastic food and excellent coffee and is open until midnight daily.
There's not really public transportation around here -- but that's a systemic issue with LA, not so much with our neighborhood. That being said, West Hollywood offers shuttle busses that take you from our end of town clear across to the other (Santa Monica / La Brea) for convenience, and there are public bus lines that run up and down La Cienega. If you're interested in more convenient private travel, we live in a very vibrant neighborhood and there's almost always an Uber or Lyft driver available within 5 minutes notice, even on more popular weekend nights.
Other Things to Note
We're told that in our neighborhood, the other AirBnBs available rarely offer private bathrooms and that we should stress that fact to potential visitors, so here we go, just to reiterate -- our gorgeous king-sized bedroom with an attached private balcony comes with it's own non-shared PRIVATE BATHROOM that is yours to use exclusively for the duration of your stay.
Please note, we do have a (super cute) puppy -- he does not go into the guest quarters or upstairs at all and he is a hypoallergenic breed -- but please do keep this in mind if you are allergic or sensitive.
We would consider pets but would likely ask for an additional deposit. No smoking inside the house.
We stayed with Jay and his wife for a very brief time midweek. We checked in in the early evening and checked out by 8am the next morning.
The bedroom was represented accurately. Very comfy bed and sheets. There was a quaint little balcony off the bedroom which my boyfriend and I enjoyed leaving open for a nice breeze. Our visit was in May so the temps were still mild and comfortable. There was a fan in the room that was pointed out to us.
Oversized, luxurious, bath sheet style towels were provided. Jay also had a number of toiletries available for use such as new toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, toothpaste.
The bathroom was pretty roomy. I found a hair here and there in the tub prior to using, but rinsed it off. This kind of made me wonder if the tub was thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival since there was also some soap scum visible. We ran this by the hosts and they said they sprayed it down prior to our arrival. Would have preferred to hear scrubbed versus sprayed.
Worth mentioning the bathroom gets very steamy, and guests are asked to open the window to ventilate.
The hosts do have a dog, but they did a nice job of keeping it out of the way during our stay. The dog did not pose any sort of noise issues and was very quiet.
Check in process was easy and flexible. The host couldn't meet us in person, but provided detailed pictorial instructions in a PDF with the specifics. A key and neighborhood parking pass was provided for us to use during our stay.
The driveway, gate and in-gate parking setup is very tight. It might be too tight for larger vehicles. Our mid-size sedan fit just fine.
Communication with the host was easy. Jay was responsive via Airbnb app and also provided his cell phone number for us to use if we couldn't get a hold of him. Jay and his wife seemed very nice, but apprehensive. We got the sense this was more transactional than a personal Airbnb experience. We appreciated the host's suggestions for restaurants in the immediate area.
My favorite part about this stay was the location. Very close to many nice restaurants and cafes within walking distance. Urth Cafe down the street was fantastic and worth trying. The neighborhood is trendy and in a nice locale. The home is in a mostly residential area which is extremely close and walkable to a downtown area.
We had a great stay with Jay. His home was adorable and the room was super comfortable, spacious, clean, and had its own bathroom. The neighborhood was totally safe and walkable to many restaurants, shops, and Cedars Sanai Hospital. Parking was free and easy. Jay, his wife, and his dog were very welcoming and easy going. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Jay was an awesome host. He was always available, helpful and kind. The location of the house is perfect. Many restaurants, coffee shops, bars are around. Quiet and nice neighbourhood. The room is absolutely mesmerizing: sunny, clean, well equipped, good vibes around. The bed is super comfortable. Highly recommended for everyone. A+
Jay's house is lovely, the bed is super comfortable and the room is very spacious. Jay and his fiancé were very sweet and easy going. We arrived the day before and although we couldn't stay an extra day weigh them they lets us check in 2 hours earlier. The house is in a great location. Close to Weho and Melrose Highly recommended!
Jay's home was super nice and cosy, great bedroom with ultra large bed. The neighborhood was a killer with all the shops and cafés, but you still feel as if you were in the country side.
We had great conversations, Jay and his girlfriend were super easy going. I strongly recommend their place.
Jay has promptly responded to our queries prior to the trip. He was there to welcome us and carried our bags up to the room. Since we had only a day in LA, he suggested we use an Uber taxi to help us get around the city, and in fact also installed the app for us.
Jay did oblige our request for a morning cup of tea in the room and set things up quickly to ensure we were comfortable.
The bed room and closet were spacious and the kingsized bed comfortable for two. The attached balcony allowed for some fresh air and enjoy the quiet of the morning. The bathroom which was just outside the bedroom was a decent size as well.
Jay was a great host very accomodating. Room was clean and very spacious and great location. Recommend this place to anyone. Thanks Jay.
About the Host, Jay
I'm a producer in Los Angeles, originally from the East Coast, and my wife is a Publicist. We love traveling and especially love the idea of staying in AirBnB's instead of hotels, to get more of the local flavor.
