About This Listing
This house is a rare find in the city - our detached home is small, but much more spacious than a condo or loft, with a variety of rooms upstairs for retreat. We have a private backyard and generous upper deck (blissful in warm months). We have free parking and we're on a quiet, leafy street just a few blocks away from the Queen streetcar. Our house sleeps two perfectly for any length of time. The basement has a double bed, shower and WC, and is suitable for shorter visits. It's nice to have the freedom and comfort of a whole house for your vacation.
Please do play the piano! The first floor is open, with living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs you'll find the main bedroom with king bed, full bathroom, dressing room, upper balcony, and office. There is an extra bedroom (with double bed), bathroom and shower in the basement. The washer and dryer are also here if you need them. We don't have a TV, but we do have a large Mac with guest wifi password for online entertainment and DVDs. The parking pad is also for your use.
We won't be at the house during your stay. When you book with us, we will give you the code to a lock box where you will find the house key.
Parkdale is where it's all happening. Two of the city's best coffee shops are at the foot of our street (The Tempered Room and Capital) and we can't even keep up with the new bistros and restaurants that are opening. We love living so close to West Queen West, Roncesvalles, and Dundas West (three areas that are rich with character, great shopping and people watching). Visit a year round farmers' market at Sorauren Park on Mondays, and take a short walk south to the Blue Edge - the lake shore walking and biking path that skirts the whole city. Book an appointment with an RMT at The Well, a massage and wellness centre around the corner. There's also a little park right across the street from our house - handy if you have a dog.
We are on the west end of Toronto, so if your flight arrives at Pearson International, the flat rate for the taxi is lower than downtown addresses (it's about $53). We are on the Queen Streetcar line to the south and the Dundas Streetcar line on the north. Subway stop is Lansdowne or Dufferin (then take a short bus south of Queen). Driving: take the Jameson exit from the Gardiner Expressway.
Currently there is a new townhouse development being built next door, so there may be cement trucks and construction workers near the property on weekdays. The workers start around 8am and finish around 4pm.
Absolutely no smoking allowed in the house.
Please leave the refrigerator clean at the end of your stay - remove any leftover foods before you check out.
Pets are welcome, but dogs are not allowed on the bed. We ask that you cover the white sofa with a drop sheet if you are bringing a pet.
Our host and residence were exceptional ! We loved the location and the proximity to family who lived nearby. The house was also very inviting and quiet, which is nice when travelling with small kids. The decor was very beautiful and we enjoyed the squirrels and racoons that visited the yard. I would definitely recommend this location and this host to anyone.
We love the Parkdale neighbourhood. Its a great eclectic mix of history, ethnic and income diversity which feels and is healthy and authentic.
There is a history of design outlets along the nearby stretch of Queen going west and now new shops opening up run by young entrepreneurs. The West End Food Co-op was a great surprise!
Ryan and Sarah have generously outfitted and shared their super efficient kitchen and cookware. We loved the airy lightness and warmth of the house and could see it would be a shady oasis in the summer too.
If AirBnB wrote a case study for the perfect hosting experience, this would be it. Ryan and Sarah were faultless. They were exceptionally quick to reply, very polite and went out of their way to be helpful. Their home itself is really set up for AirBnB guests, I dare you to find something you need that they haven't thought of. They could not of improved on anything (and as I travel monthly for work, I can tell you that is no short order). Look forward to staying at their house on my next visit.
We needed someplace to stay while a renovation was completed at our house on the east end of the city. Luckily, we found Sarah and Ryan's house! They met us and provided lots of details about the house and the neighbourhood. Arriving at the house after work every night was just like coming home - peaceful, relaxing, very comfortable, a refuge from the seemingly endless winter of 2014. I would recommend Sarah and Ryan's place to anyone. Thank you!
I am so happy I found Ryan and Sarah's place! I very much enjoyed my stay there. It was like being at home or a good friend's house. The week, while it entailed some work, was very relaxing because of the ambiance they have created there.
Everything is provided for; Ryan and Sarah are there if you need them and not if you don't; they left coffee and water and goodies to welcome me; lots of books to read and a comfortable area to read in.
The location is terrific, so quiet that I slept better than at home! And the king size bed upstairs is SOOO comfortable. I'm sure that helped. A five-minute walk to Queen St. and a host of restaurants and one of the best coffee/espresso bars I've had the pleasure of visiting (many times, too!) - the Capital; it's delicious!
I don't know what else to say except I look forward to staying there again, hopefully when the weather is warmer and one can just wander about the area and enjoy the deck and side yard they have.
All-in-all, Sarah and Ryan are great hosts providing an exceptional and wonderful place. It was just really fantastic to have stayed there. Thanks!
Sarah is a wonderful host! All the little thoughtful touches, like having snacks waiting for us when we arrived from the airport and tea for us to make in the morning made our stay so much more pleasant. Sarah and her husband are new hosts, but they've been airbnb guests before and have taken the things that made their vacations enjoyable and done them here. I still feel bad that she had to wait an extra hour for me to arrive because the taxi went to the wrong side of town, but she was still more than happy to give me the tour, answer my questions and write down a few funky local places to check out. She was available any time if we needed anything (which we didn't) and would call every few days to see how we were getting along. The house is very well situated for exploring Queen street and there's easy access to transit to take you wherever you need to go. I found it was an easy walk to Liberty Village and some of my favourite restaurants. It was sooo nice to come back to this quiet townhouse each night after every long day at the One Of A Kind show. If I wanted to quickly make something in the kitchen, then everything I needed was there. If I was too tired to even do that, there was a comfortable bed waiting for me and lots of books for me to read. All in all, a very pleasant stay and I would definitely stay again.
About the Host, Sarah
I'm an author, and Ryan, my husband, is an outdoor educator. Toronto is our home base, but we love to travel with our laptops in cities and towns far and wide. We own and operate a small online creative writing school, and I am writing my second book -- this makes it possible for us to work and travel at the same time.
We have been airbnb guests many times, and we are happy to have the chance to finally be hosts! We love meeting new people, hearing their stories, and welcoming them to our fantastic neighbourhood.
More about us: we're vegan, and we're passionate about cooking. I love deep conversation, smart short fiction, boutique knitting shops, matcha lattes, and anything that glitters. Ryan's always learning a new skill - most recently surfing and playing mandolin - and currently is sketching a not-so-big house design. He also loves to dance. Our shared loves: travel, sunshine, nature, canoeing, hiking, and music.
As hosts, we want to give you privacy, comfort, and a squeaky-clean space so you will feel at home right away. As guests, we are quiet types, and we usually wake up and go to bed early. We're extremely clean, tidy, and considerate, and we'll treat your home like our own. We are excited to host and be hosted. Both!
