The Space

I offer a private room at Laugavegur in the heart of Reykjavik.
Laugavegur is one of the oldest shopping street of central Reykjavik and is packed with shops, art galleries, restaurants, cafes and attractions.

THE ROOM has a king size double bed for max 2 sleeping guests. You will have shared access to the dining room, kitchen will all necessary utensils and a bathroom with a toilet and shower.

There is wireless Internet and we offer free parking.

- bus stop next to the house
- 5 minutes walk to the oldest public bath in Reykjavik / Sundhollin with hot tubs and steam bath.
- 2 minutes to the grocery store / Bonus.
- 5 minutes to the art museum of Einar Jonsson, among the greatest
sculptors of the 20th century. Must-see!
- 7 minutes walk to Hlemmur, the central bus station
- 5 minutes to Hallgrims Kirkja, the local church where you will get a great view over the city from the tower.
- 15 minutes walk to the terminal for buses, tours and excursions at BSI.

The best way to get from KEF airport into Reykjavik if you don´t have a rental car is to take the air-bus.
The air-bus stops right outside the airports arrival hall and it takes you to the city bus terminal BSI.
From BSI, you can take shuttle buses to our place at Laugavegur 43.
If you order a bus ticket in advance online, it´s easier to order the airbus and the shuttle bus in the same ticket.

Overall Guest Satisfaction
Check In
  • We stayed with Matti for a week, and would recommend it. The room and bed were spacious and comfortable, and the small, shared kitchen was in the middle of 3 rooms making for a very sociable environment if you'd like to interact with the other guests.
Also, we were surprised to find that this really was right in the centre of town, just a couple of minutes walk to supermarkets, tourist info, and some nice bars.

  • Overall it was a good experience. Matti communicated effectively before the trip and was able to greet me a few times during my short stay. Even though I had not seen a check out time in any of the communications, I appreciated that Matti was professional/accommodating when knocking on my door at 11 am so he could get it ready for other guests; he also kindly let me store my luggage in another locked room so I could continue to enjoy the city. While the bedrooms are clean and tidy, in my view the shared bathroom could use a deep scrub. And as another user pointed out, I don't believe the cleanliness issue is from the sulfur in the water. If you're a clean freak, this place may not be for you. But if you’re deciding between a hostel where you’ll be sharing a room or Matti’s place where you’ll have your own room and only need to share the bathroom, Matti’s might be for you. To finish on a really positive note, the location cannot be beat. It’s literally right in the middle of town!

  • A very nice place to stay in Reykjavik. Very central and quiet!

  • We were out most of the time, so we didn't see Matti until the last night, but we was nice. The place is perfectly located, right in the middle of the main street of Reykavik, a few minutes walk from the harbor, really perfect. The room is ok, with a good double-bed, and the window does not look on the street, so there is no problem with the noise. It seems there are other rented rooms in the building, and they share bathroom, kitchen and living room, so it seems more like a guesthouse than a real "room in someone's apartment". That's okay for us, but I think it is worth noticing as some people don't expect that from Airbnb. My girlfriend though the bathroom was not really clean (and it's not about about the sulfur smell).

  • The room is simple, no frills, but big, comfortable and has plenty of space for two people. The kitchenette's handy, and the bathroom is large. There weren't many people in the building, as my friend and I were staying during off season, so it was quiet, which was nice - It felt like we had the place to ourselves. Matti was also nice enough to find a hair dryer for us (forgot to pack one!), and check in occasionally. The location is prime!

  • Matti's place was so central, it was on the main shopping street and close to literally everything! Only a couple of minutes walk away is the Grayline bus depot for if you're catching the bus to/from the airport or doing day tours. The room was big enough for our two suitcases and snowboards, and kept warm. The bed was also nice and comfortable. There is a shared kitchen area with the basics and fridge space, and shared bathroom. Don't expect luxury, but you've got all the essentials! Sidenote: the shower may smell funky, but that's the smell from the geysirs, where Iceland's water is sourced from! If you've got heavy/a lot of luggage also perhaps request a room on a lower story ;)

  • Matti was very easy to correspond with. The location really can't be beat - right on the main street. Our only issue was parking - there was no availability when we arrived, however we easily found a spot out on the main street, and it ended up being free as it was the weekend. Thanks very much Matti!
