Situated on one of the streets of Fort Cochin, Sithara Homestay caters to the taste and needs of the discerning tourists. Present on a street studded with numerous ancient buildings conjuring up an aura of yore. An ideal place to start your discovery of the place and to plan and explore the beauty of Kerala. Fort Cochin is one of the sections of Cochin (The industrial Capital of Kerala), tucked between the Arabian Sea & the backwaters. Situated on a peninsula in the west linked by a complex system of ferries and unimaginatively made bridges, Fort Cochin shares the western location with Mattancherry as its other geographical ally of the old districts
Fort Cochin attracts interest mainly due to its extraordinary history of foreign influence and settlement. They are reflected in an assortment of architectural styles.
During a wander through their narrow lanes, you will stumble upon spice markets, Chinese fishing nets, a synagogue, a Portuguese palace, India's first European church, Dutch homes, and a village green that could have been transported from England's Home Counties. The city is also one of the few places in Kerala where, at any time of year, you can be assured of seeing Kathakali dance, either in one of several special tourist theatres, or at a more authentic performance by a temple based company.

I was so inspired by Harry’s family’s hospitality (and the gorgeous triple room I was staying in) that I decided to extend my visit to Fort Cochin and stay again at Sithara.
A few thoughts to add to my first review:
1) the treed front garden (which provides a lovely view from both the room’s balcony and the covered outdoor dining area) is really lovely, and hosts egg-laying chickens, parrots and lovebirds.
2) If you’re looking to do touristy stuff, Harry can hook up everything from show tickets to yoga + cooking classes to backwater tours to motorcycle/car rentals; I regretted not having another night to check out the dancing demos, which are supposed to be great.
Again, I highly recommend Sithara to anyone looking for a comfy, b+b-style homestay in the heart of Fort Cochin. Thank you, Harry, Mercy + Varun!
I had a great experience staying in Harry’s family home, where he lives with his wife and adult son. Located in the heart of Fort Kochi, tucked into a residential enclave just a few steps from the main drag, it’s only a 3-5 minute walk to the main beach and Chinese fishing nets. It was ideal to have a respite from the busy tourist scene, yet be close enough to get anywhere quickly on foot if I wanted to.
Harry’s wife Mercy, a fabulous cook, prepared a delicious coastal dinner of seasoned-fish-in-banana-leaf, vegetables, rice, and raita and a mouth-watering curry for breakfast (using fresh eggs from the chickens roaming the beautiful front yard). The private triple room was spacious, clean and bright, with its own balcony, washroom, living room/extra bedroom, and separate entrance to allow for independent coming-and-goings.
From the warm welcome to the sea-side air, I had a fabulous time in Fort Kochi and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Sithara to anyone looking for a great place to stay.
