About this listing
This is for the adventurous. Its a lovely two bedroom wooden hand built home in the rainforest perched on the edge of its own creek. Access is by boat only. You will be free from internet and television and have amazing bird and forest song instead.
Access is by private boat only and you well be ferried in and out. It is best to treat this holiday as you would camping as you move from a car to a small boat with an outboard motor, to a landing deck where your belongings and food will be transferred to a wheel barrow or small vehicle or be carried by hand depending on what is available the five minute walk to the house along a bush track.
Gerill Goo Gul is a beautiful, secluded 63 hectare Rainforest and tropical fruit property situated on the Daintree River. I have owned this property for nearly 30yrs. Now that all my friends have been and loved it, it is time to share it with the rest of the world.
The house has two bedrooms a full indoor bathroom as well as an outdoor hot shower looking straight into the rainforest. It has Gas cooking, solar power and facilities to charge all your essential electrical equipment
Note: this house is open to the environment. If you do not like creatures it is not for you. Many creatures, such as lizards, moths, butterflies, bats, marsupials, and occasional snakes pass through the house and as far as I am aware all are harmless and most are gobsmackingly beautiful.
The Cottage is an open plan two bedroom hand built wooden home. I call it primitive mod con. It has everything you need but is not your average suburban home. It is comfortably, simply and tastefully furnished in a tropical fashion. The surroundings are mesmerising and most guest are awed.
If you want seclusion and privacy this is for you. If you want a break from phones, internet etc this is for you. If you want the beautiful technicoloured Wompoo pigeon cooing outside your bedroom window, this is for you. If you wish to swim in the pristine waters of Daintree Rainforest creeks this is for you.
Gerril Goo Gul is the Kuku Yalanji (local Aboriginal tribe) name for our property it means meeting place at the elbow in the river. Our property is surrounded on three sides by The World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and bordered by untouched creeks. The property while being mostly Virgin Rainforest has pockets of exotic Tropical fruit orchards.
If you have your own car you can drive to the boats or we can organise to collect you from either Port Douglas or Mossman fee to be negotiated.
A very basic pantry will be supplied (fee to be negotiated) so you will need to bring in all your own food or we can supply you with all the food you need to cook your own meals. The price of this will be negotiable depending on what you choose.
Often there is freshly caught fish and fresh home grown fruit and vegies available
We can organise a barramundi fishing trip on the river or a tour of the river by your host or the commercial tours in our area as there are plenty.
Interaction with Guests
While I will not be present there are usually some people around and about who will be able to help you if you need it. Also the Caretaker is generally next door for the night. So while you are in a very special and secluded location you will not necessarily be all alone in the middle of the rainforest.
My house is a resting place. It is somewhere to come to relax and spend days quietly reading, birdwatching, listening to music, swimming, walking, eating, fishing, sharing time with friends and being awed by your beautiful surroundings. It is not a great launch pad for all that the Far North Queensland has to offer though it is possible to do so if you want to. We are about 40mins drive to the ferry and 1hr from Port Douglas.
An amazing remote property with lots of opportunity to relax and reflect. Although its very rustic, there are some beautiful furnishings and comforts too. Tanya and her fantastic caretakers made a tricky arrival work well. Though its not for everyone, this place is good for those whom are a little adventurous, want something different and are happy getting close with nature.
