The Space

Gerril Goo Gul is a beautiful, secluded 63 hectare property situated on the Daintree River. I have owned this property for nearly 30yrs. Now that all my friends have been and loved it, it is time to share it with the rest of the world.

Access is by private boat only and you well be ferried in and out.

Note: this house is open to the environment. If you do not like creatures it is not for you. Many creatures visit the house and as far as I am aware all are harmless and most are gobsmackingly beautiful.

The Cottage is an open plan two bedroom hand built wooden home. I call it primitive mod con. It has everything you need but is not your average suburban home. It is Comfortably, simply and tastefully furnished in a tropical fashion. The surroundings are mesmerising and most guest are awed.

If you want seclusion and privacy this is for you. If you want a break from phones, internet etc this is for you. If you want the beautiful Technicoloured Wompoo pigeon cooing outside your bedroom window, this is for you. If you wish to swim in the pristine waters of Daintree Rainforest creeks this is for you.

Gerril Goo Gul is the Kuku Yalanji (local Aboriginal tribe) name for our property it means meeting place at the elbow in the river. Our property is surrounded on three sides by The World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and bordered by untouched creeks. The property while being mostly Virgin Rainforest has pockets of exotic Tropical fruit orchards.

Guest Access

If you have your own car you can drive to the boats or we can organise to collect you from either Port Douglas or Mossman fee to be negotiated.

A very basic pantry will be supplied (fee to be negotiated) so you will need to bring in all your own food or we can supply you with all the food you need to cook your own meals. The price of this will be negotiable depending on what you choose.

Often there is freshly caught fish and fresh home grown fruit and vegies available

We can organise a barramundi fishing trip on the river or a tour of the river by your host or the commercial tours in our area as there are plenty.

Interaction with Guests

While I will not be present there are usually some people around and about who will be able to help you if you need it. Also the Caretaker is generally next door for the night. So while you are in a very special and secluded location you will not necessarily be all alone in the middle of the rainforest.

  • I just found staying with Tanya just amazing. Most hospitable and welcoming.
Made me feel at home immediately and treated me as part of her family.
    Couldn't have wished for more.
Very relaxed in a lovely traditional comfortable house with plenty of space with views of the harbour and Bondhi.
Ideally located for me in one of the best roads in the area.
This will be my first choice when I return to Sydney.
Am most grateful for Tanya's outstanding hospitality and friendliness.
    All very much appreciated.
Just made my trip much much better than expected.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 nights staying at Tanya's super interesting home - what an amazing location. Tanya was a great hostess, and provided lots of ideas and things to do. We definitely recommend Tanya's home if you are looking for somewhere different to the big hotels.

  • For last 15 years, we were planing SYDNEY NEW YEAR EVE travel to Australia during our children's school holidays. Each year, we travelled another destination and missed Sydney New year eve fireworks. This year, we planned just a fortnight before, and Sydney holiday rentals of independent and large sizes get booked 6 months in advance. Tanya had just made up her mind first time ever, to rent her beautiful and loving home. I just somehow noticed and booked with her. We were very concerned about renting somebody's HOME, and so much emotionally lived for over 35-40 years since childhood.
We are a world traveller with experience of renting over 250 holiday homes worldwide; were too jittery till we reached at her house. An old, beautiful and spacious bungalow, with so much of love spread all around. every corner contained memories. And how generous of Tanya. so well stocked kitchen. By heart. The house has large garden overlooking 2 golf courses (you can see people playing ), A huge marina with boats and mini cruises sailing on one side and Ocean touching Bondi Beach. What a view. My 16 year young son and his classmate friend were so free by that they did not use the family car for asking me to drop them or pick them up. Everything was so close that both of them enjoyed a ball of a time independently.
And the FIREWORKS !! Just walk down 15 minute to a small park on harbor side at Point Piper, go a little early, spread a mat and fix a place for yourself. View. Better than the best fireworks view anywhere in Sydney.
Tanya, her friend, Karen (she was every moment available when needed-like (website hidden)) and her house; all have left a forever memorable experience among all other, worldwide in our journey of covering holidays in 150 countries. Best of Luck Tanya.

  • Five stars are not enough! I have stayed here many times over many years. Tanya is a great friend and a generous, thoughtful host. She always makes the extra effort to ensure her guests are looked after. Her property is a comfortable and auspicious place to stay, easy to access the city with public transport. You cannot better the backyard at sunset with views over Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean. If you are thinking about booking a stay, I heartily recommend that you do.
