Welcome to this small, private Whidbey Island home!
Special "Summer Season" note: Beginning May through September: there is a two-night minimum stay for Fri/Sat. Otherwise I accept one-night inquiries/requests.
This is my third space posted on this web site. The other two are smaller and lower priced spaces accept for the pet friendly apartment :
http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/66010 caravan .
The pet friendly apartment with a view: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6164305.
The Home is set near the Cottage.
It is set among the trees on 3 acres on beautiful Whidbey Island, 2 miles from the town of Freeland (antique stores, grocery store, post office, etc., etc.), about 5 miles from my favorite beach, "Double Bluff", that holds stunning views of the Cascade Mountains, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympic Mountains with miles of walking.
The Small House is a cozy, light- filled and airy space with its many windows and skylights. It is meant to be an adult getaway.
The bedroom has opening windows and a skylight over the bed for a more spacious feel and to look at the stars; it has a feeling of sleeping in a tree house. It has a comfy, queen size bed, a writing desk and chair. There is plenty of closet space in case you decide to stay longer.
The regular sized kitchen is equipped with a large fridge, a gas range, a toaster oven, a coffee maker, a toaster, an electric tea kettle, all the dishes and basic condiments (salt, pepper, sugar, tea, coffee). It has a granite and a butcher top counter.
There is colorful Italian tile in the shower and Ubatuba (dark green with gold flecks) granite on the bathroom floor.
In the living room, you may lounge on the inviting 16 foot window bench seat to take in the open forest view through the 13' window, or enjoy the WiFi to write those long- due letters on your computer.
Have your morning breakfast in the sun room or on the spacious deck and listen to the birds.
Either way, this super quiet romantic place for two will leave you nurtured and nourished by its splendid green views and quiet nature surrounds.
I love how quiet it is here, and how dark it gets at night because we are far away from city lights. Each neighbor has 3 to 5 acres of property, and from mine I can see a little bit of the home of one of them.
I like that it is only about 2 miles to Freeland where I can find the grocery store and post office as well as some stores for treasure hunting or a cafe to sip coffee in on a rainy day.
In August of 1996, I found this lovely property, that before me was owned by Jim, a literal hermit.
Jim hand dug the 300' drive way, he build the Sears kit home, he knew the deer by generation, and he never cut a tree; he burned presto logs. Jim lived there from 1963 until his death in 1995.
Since then, I have brought in power and telephone, added the bedroom and sun room as well as the decks, totally re-did the inside of this home, and created several gardens.
I shall always be grateful to Jim for having set up this property in such a wonderful way.
(And please: do read the house rules! That way there are no surprises for you.)
Please leave the space as you found it. Thank you!
If you choose to use oil on the bed/linens, you also choose to replace them, since oil does not come out of them after washing.
Leaving items behind: you are responsible for $30 of my time + $ amount for sending left behind items.
No smoking, and I mean: NO SMOKING ON THE WHOLE PROPERTY!!! I feel strong about that!
No open flames please. That means no smoking and no candles. Thank you!
And PLEASE: there are no pets allowed! Thank you!
Mandeja was an awesome Airbnb host. She communicated early on and gave detailed instructions for getting there and using the cottage efficiently. The cottage was beautiful! A great weekend retreat and homebase for exploring the beauty of Whidbey. We value privacy when we're Airbnb'ing and she totally delivered that. The cottage had all the necessary accoutrements for cooking a good meal - we never felt like we needed anything that wasn't there. It was clean, warm, and everything you'd want in a nature cottage. Highly recommended!
This was the perfect weekend getaway! Mandeja's place is warm, cozy and encourages rest and relaxation. We loved morning coffee looking out the huge window (LOVED that window seat!!!) Easy access to beaches and hiking - I would highly recommend this rental and would imagine her other 2 rentals are just as lovely!
Great energy, warm colors, clean, cozy and perfect for solitude. Lots of thoughtful touches throughout the cabin and the lovingly maintained gardens. No TV a big plus as well! (The better to look out at the gorgeous grove of alders and conifers and say hi to the chubby robins looking in :) Mandeja was very prompt in communicating and provided great directions and made check-in very easy. She also checked in to make sure everything was ok--which it was! Thank you Mandeja for such a wonderful stay!
This house is absolutely lovely, and we loved staying here for the weekend. The entire process from first inquiry to checkout was super smooth and easy. The place is warm, secluded, inviting, and really convenient. I loved all of the touches that made the place feel homey and welcoming. The house has a really wonderful feeling to it. Though we didn't meet Mandeja, I can tell she is a very thoughtful person and a wonderful host. We had absolutely everything we needed. The place was clean, welcoming, well-stocked, and made us instantly feel like we could settle in and relax. I hope to return soon.
This is a lovely and private place to spend the weekend. It is very homey and comfortable. The bedroom feels like a you are in a tree house because there is forest all around. I would definitely stay there again. Thanks so much Mandeja!
I love this place! It is perfect getaway and is situated in a private area in the woods. Lots of windows let in beautiful sunlight in the mornings and evenings - especially loved the light coming into the bedroom at sunset. The living room is cozy and perfect for playing music, reading, and writing. The woods provide lots of singing birds - otherwise, completely quiet (no cars, no people). Decor is whimsical, and house contained all needed amenities for simple cooking at home. Nice grocery store just a short ride into town.
Mandeja is as warm and kind as her home - she is so accommodating and a pleasure to communicate with. I would love to stay here again soon.
Mandeja responded quickly to emails. The description on how to find the house was helpful, I am glad we arrived during the day. It is a quiet place since the neighbors in the cabin next door were also very quiet. The house is funky and comfortable. From the sunroom one enters the living room, the kitchen, its door leads into the bathroom from where one reaches the bedroom. The kitchen didn't invite us to cook; it was clean, but used.
The only unpleasant experience was being woken up the second morning by a couple drips of water onto my face, enough to put an early end to the night. The skylight seems to have problems with condensation.
Otherwise we had a pleasant stay in the woods.

I am a dynamic woman who has traveled the world and found a pearl named Whidbey Island. I tried to leave once, but to no avail: she beckoned me back into the beauty of her many beaches with views of many different mountains, a community one may only hope for, and the serenity of nature that fills me with solace not found anywhere else on the planet.
I am looking forward to sharing this special place with you!
