This 3 story house is 50 meters from the progressive Abbot Kinney Bl, and it is 600 meters, straight down Winward to the heart of the Venice Board Walk. The house is a minute bike ride to the beach, but far enough away for peace of mind. You are in walking distance to Main Street, lower Santa Monica, Venice Canals, buses, taxi's, shops, restaurants. For your morning coffee or tea, Intelligentsia is a stones throw away. This flat is on the West side of Abbot Kinney, just off Winward. Goldilocks would find this local, just right.
The beauty about this space is that it is so close to all that Venice, Santa Monica, and Marina Del Rey has to offer... yet it is tranquil, hip, and beautiful. I just moved from an apt on the boardwalk after 8 years, and I can write from experience that 'this is the way to do Venice'.
It is an all natural house hold. All cotton linens, towels, no chemical cleaners or fragrances. Water filters are provided for drinking and showers. You get wireless internet, a queen bed, and small desk / work station in your room; as well as access to a printer. You also have a small outdoor patio just outside your room.
As for you host, Matt makes a raw superfood line of mylks, puddings, and skin cream. You can check his site at thefeelgoodlounge. He also performs stand up, takes improv and writing classes.....Matt also loves to play tennis.
p.s.- there are bikes available to guests. Parking: it is street parking, plus sharing of a private spot, if needed. Parking is plentiful, just out front or in back of the flat. The only caveats are street sweeping for 2 hours on Mon / Tues, and it gets tight on Sat and Sun from 12 to 6. With a little local knowledge, parking is easy. Every evening is wide open, as well as all weekdays.
Bikes, Lounge Room, Backyard and LIMITED Kitchen use. DIY breakfast, including complimentary: fresh fruit, oatmeal, teas, coffee, on demand boiling and drinking water . Keurig Coffee w/ Starbucks K-cups are available. Refrigerator and toaster also accessible. This is a petite and vegetarian kitchen used for simple and mostly raw food preparations.
Interaction with Guests
I will interact with guests if I am in the kitchen and they are passing through. I am on a different floor than the guest rooms, so interaction takes place on the main floor. Guest rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors.
Beautiful, artistic homes and tree lined streets make the immediate area a treasure. A 5 minute walk puts you on the Venice boardwalk or canals. Abbot Kinney is a stones throw away, so you've got some of LA's best cafe's, restaurants, and boutiques just around the corner.
There is lots to explore within a 5 to 10 minute walk: Canals, Venice Pier, Boardwalk, Beach, Abbot Kinney, the Marina. Bikes are complimentary and a great way to take in the boardwalk, Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd street Promenade.
Major bus hubs and stops are within a 2 minute walk and taxi's are also just minutes away. Star Line bus tours are a great way to see LA.
Other Things to Note
You may request samples of my sprouted almond mylks and superfood puddings and they are available for sale.
Welcome to a slice of historic Venice. The blue bungalows were built in the early 1900's on the original canal network. Please walk gingerly up the spiral stairs and be mindful of other guests and neighbors. Complimentary food and drink is located in the main lounge room, where you can also enter and exit the house and use bikes. I work hard to keep the house free of chemical detergents and fragrances and appreciate if you do too. If you leave house early or late, please use back door entry/exit. The spiral stairs are available from 9am to 9pm.
Everything about our stay at Matt's was great and as advertised. It was fairly priced. The place was clean, private, and pleasant. The neighborhood was nice. Matt is a sincere and honest person. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Matthew's room was just as described in his listing. When we arrived it was nice and clean, and check-in was very easy. We quickly met Matthew downstairs, and he gave us some great information about the area and the room/house.
This room is great if you're just looking for a place to crash and shower, so it worked perfectly for our stay as we spent all of our time out enjoying California. Matthew is a very nice and helpful guy, and we enjoyed meeting him. Overall we had a great stay, and would absolutely stay here again. Thanks Matthew!
I had such a lovely stay at Venice Beach and Matthew is a wonderful host. The amenities where wonderful; comfy bed, hot shower and complimentary tea, coffee, snacks & yummy home made almond milk. The area is great, close to everything and Matthew is a great help with local information. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely stay again when I am back in Venice Beach.
Matthew was the perfect host and we loved staying at his cool Venice house. The location is amazing - it's just around the corner (literally) from Abbot Kinney with tons of cool shops, restaurants, bars and even cooler people. Venice Beach and its quirky, wacky awesomeness is about a 10 min walk. I also walked to Santa Monica Pier, which is 3.4 miles and a lovely beachy walk.
The room was basic and but clean, comfortable and stocked with fluffy towels, a new mattress, and delicious shampoo. There's also a well stocked common room that has coffee, tea, wine, oatmeal. Matthew has several bikes that he loans out and it's just a generally cool, relaxed vibe.
Staying at Matthew's place was such great pleasure. My friend and I stayed at the house for three days and we both loved it so much. We arrived late on the day of our check-in, but Matthew kindly left us notes about parking, places to go and check-out. He was also kind enough to let me know about the directions and tips when I asked about walking to the beach - which only took us about 10 minutes from the house. The room was very clean, and we were provided with all the amenities we needed! I loved the organic shampoo, body wash and organic/all natural snacks provided for us on the first floor. Overall, we had a great experience while in LA and staying at Matthew's was undoubtedly a great decision.
What a great experience at Matthew's place. The room is a perfect size for a couple and has all the comfort you will need for a little get away at Venice Beach. The bed is really comfortable and the shower is amazing!
The room is almost inviting you to get out and enjoy the outside since the back door gives you a beautiful view of the neighborhood.
The amenities are great since there is always coffee and a few fruits and snacks.
I HIGHLY recommend that place.
We absolutely loved our stay at Matt's place. He was a wonderful host and had everything we needed for our short stay with him. Our room had its own entrance through the spiral staircase, which was perfect for us while leaving early or getting back late. The bikes available to us were also super useful, and we used them both days to bike on the beach and get around Venice and Santa Monica. I loved Matt's house and its aesthetic, especially the lovely decor and lights he had out in the backyard patio area. There was a little table in the common area with coffee, tea, oatmeal, gingerbread cookies, and even some beer and wine. Before going to dinner one night, my boyfriend and I sat outside and drank a glass of wine while playing Matt's guitar, which was absolutely wonderful. All in all, a great stay! I'll definitely call on Matt when I'm in LA next.

I am 46 years old and have lived in Venice Bch for 11 years. I moved from the hyper-active boardwalk area, to what locals consider to be a most blissful spot in Venice Bch. Some call it the best street in Venice. The house is part of the original canal network and was once an original tourist bungalow. I make and distribute a line of raw / superfood puddings and sprouted almond mylks - from the house. You can learn (email hidden). I am also studying and performing stand up comedy, improv, and taking writing -story telling classes.....oh, and I love to play tennis.
