LOCATION IS NOT DOWNTOWN NAIROBI..!!! IT IS A SUBURB. A private bedroom with king sized bed and own bathroom in a beautiful, wooded, nature's den surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, and plenty of sunshine. The house is located on a quiet street in Karen, the upscale suburb of Nairobi - 30 minutes from the airport and walking distance to the major road. We are a 20 shilling bus ride to downtown Karen where cool WIFI cafes and restaurants are located. Oh! you can also mingle and bargain Masai craft right at the Karen Square.
Our home comes with high speed internet, DSTV, maid, cell phone and an office space with fireplace for private work. There is plenty of relaxing space; deck, veranda surrounded by flowers, garden and walkways. . Our beautiful and talented house manager, Trizia, will assist you throughout your stay. Breakfast is available if you request it. Plenty of linen sheets, towels, fresh flowers in your room and a great host who comes from the land of hospitality are at your disposal.
We have worked hard to remove the "commercial" out of our hospitality. There are no hard negotiations or strict check in or check outs, but you must present yourself as a respectable visitor, business person or tourist. The house has 6 bedrooms but we limit the number of guests to 2 rooms so we can give you special attention. However, ask for more rooms if you have a large entourage.
You have access to TV, internet, kitchen, maid, living room and parking.
Interaction with Guests
You will have access to a maid for your needs but we offer absolute privacy if you so desire. On occasions, if you request (separate charge) you will be treated to gourmet dishes of your choice. Or, simply buy your groceries and the kitchen is all yours.
The Hekima community is an upscale residence. We have chickens and veggie garden in the yard. There are community gardens where you can buy fresh milk or organic veggies.
Getting around is simple. You can either walk to the main road and have a 20 to 30 KSH ride to downtown Karen or the Galleria Mall. If you make advance request, we can arrange one of our friendly and smart drivers to take you around.
Other Things to Note
Because we pride ourselves on allowing the guest to be part of the creation of the house, we ask that you send us notice of your interests before you arrive.
We like to offer a quiet and serene environment that is friendly and warm home to our guests, so we ask that you cooperate to accomplish that.
Shoes are left at the entrance to keep the interior clean, healthy and stain free.
Smoking is not allowed in the house or bedrooms but you can smoke on the porch, veranda or in the yard.
We do not allow loud parties or a large number of unregistered visitors.
We had a very pleasant stay at Franck's place. It was everything that we expected and hoped it would be. The safe area, the spacious room (with babybed! Thanks for that!), the cleanliness and the great garden. Hot shower available every moment of the day and, i have to say it again, so nice and clean!
We could just come and go and if we wanted to talk with Franck, we could. He is full of good stories!
Thanks guys, we'll definitely come back!
This is my second review for Franck and his place-- and I can't recommend it enough. Franck is totally easy going, and was really flexible with both check in and checkout times (which were both inconvenient!). Franck and his partner Kala are both full of interesting stories and experiences-- which absolutely enhanced our stay. Thanks again!
Franck's place in Karen is tranquil, private and very pleasant. You would never know it is only a few kilometers from the heart of Nairobi! Waking up to birds and roosters were such a treat. The house itself is very convenient-- close to the national park, Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Coffee Plantation, etc. Franck was kind enough to provide a number for and arrange for a driver who provided transport from the airport, as well as around Karen. We stayed here twice-- before and after our Mount Kenya trek. Franck was so gracious and kind to allow us to leave our luggage at his home while we trekked up the mountain. A truly fantastic place to stay in Nairobi-- wouldn't have done it any other way. Thanks Franck!
What an amazing first Airbnb experience! Franck and Kala are the most incredible hosts—warm, welcoming, knowledgeable about the area, and lovely people to be around. The accommodation was so comfortable as soon as I arrived, making it difficult to want to leave. The area is surrounded by green spaces, close to shopping facilities, and easy airport access.
This being our second visit at Franck`s place, does not alter our first review: Very secure/safe compound- situated outside the buzzy city, but close to shopping mall and" must see" tourist sights.
Very friendly and welcoming host who likes a good discussion!.
We enjoyed the stay very much and will gladly return on another visit.
Location in a very secure compound in the outskirts of Nairobi ( Karen ). Close to everything you need- You don't have to go into town. Fantastic house and garden. We enjoyed the free access to kitchen facilities ( made our own breakfast ).Nice big room, comfortable beds, spacious bathroom.
Karla and Angela extremely helpful.
All in all a very pleasant stay and very recommendable.
My stay was really great, the house is situated in a safe and beautiful area close to a market and sights like the Karen Blixen museum and Coffeehouse, Sheldrick's Elephant Orphanage and the Rothschild Giraffe Centre. Still I would recommend to rent a car ir hire a driver for the stay.
Franck and Kala are great hosts and everything worked out very well!
Thank you again, I hope to return soon!
About the Host, Franck
I live in Westport, CT where I work as a life/public speaking coach. I shuttle between Kenya and the US but there is a wonderful house manager who provides the best guest service when we have guest.
My partner, Dr Kala Fleming, and I love to give other travelers the taste of Kenya and other connections that will make your stay comfortable and hitch free. I love gardening, swimming and the outdoors. I love to cook with exotic herbs and veggies imaginable. Oh! and I make good cocktails, too.
