White wicker guest room in Madaket just 9 doors from ocean beach, across from Madaket Harbor, and on both the bike path and shuttle* to town. You're 2 blocks from waves or scenic harbor, yet can bike or hop a bus to town right from the house. Millie's, a popular restaurant/market, is also here at Madaket beach.
Madaket village is still 'old nantucket' rural, with spectacular sunsets, surf, and starry skies. Be surrounded by ocean instead of crowds!
* bus runs until Sept 10th
My home is an older "upside down" house, meaning the kitchen and my bedroom are upstairs. I live on the second floor; the front door is a shared entrance.
The first floor is set up for guests. There's a snack table with coffee maker, microwave and mini-fridge. There's also a living room with internet TV, laundry nook, and full bathroom.
The white wicker bedroom is one of two on the first floor. It has white wicker furniture and a full size bed, southern yellow pine floors, sawn pine walls. I try to use high quality, crisp linen and cotton for the bed clothing.
All linens bought new in April 2017.
The second bedroom is a basic kids' bunk room which is also available via the per-extra-person charge if you select more than 2 guests during booking.
I live & work upstairs, so guests can come and go as they please downstairs and use the whole first floor (except garage).
I provide some beach towels, umbrella & chairs if you'd like to use those at the beach.
There are paperbacks, books, and board games around for guests to use.
Interaction with guests
I'm normally home working upstairs (9 to 4) and available as needed. I try to sense and respect guests' varying preferences for interaction.
So, feel free to ask me anything. I enjoy getting to know visitors, but I do understand if you wish to make the most of your time exploring the island instead of making smalltalk!
Other things to note
Breakfast/snacks: Nice baked goods and coffee are available at Millie's market.
I don't officially offer breakfast but am experimenting by putting out some granola bars, bananas, and coffee on the microwave table.
TV: I have a Sony 40" 'smart LED TV'. The TV can accept HDMI input from laptops, chromecast, and has native apps, but it's internet, not cable TV. I also subscribe to Netflix and Amazon for content - just press Netflix on the remote and there's a user profile for AirBnB.
Living so close to the beach, sand is the constant enemy! Please avoid bringing sand in the house. Hose off outside using the garden hose by the front door, if you've been at the beach.
Nantucket has mandatory recycling, please put plastic, metal, glass into grey recycling bin.
No unregistered guests allowed.
I'm a developer and trader who works from my island home in summer, and I love it here. I've made my space reflect my interests and personalty over the years I enjoy nature, and work with my doors open to the ocean breeze, sounds of waves and birds - I never tire of seeing the full Milky Way on clear nights.
I regularly entertain a diverse group of close friends, enjoy sailing, cycling and SUP and host a weekly drum circle. I do my part to protect the rural and unspoiled nature of my little corner of the world by serving on the board of the Madaket Conservation Association.
In winters I travel - most recently 3 months traveling eastern/central europe using airbnb and visiting Nantucket friends, so I got familiar with how other AirBNB hosts operate. I hope to travel in Asia soon, perhaps with my son, and visit friends in China, Thailand, India, Korea.
The main consideration I have regarding places to stay is that I'm allergic to cats! Please let me know if you normally keep a cat as a pet, as I may not be able to breathe in your house.
