About this listing
Unique one bedroom & bath in guest house on working olive ranch in the beautiful countryside of the Santa Ynez Valley. Private entrance , king bed, ensuite full bath. Cozy wood-framed cottage. Non-smoking. Near Los Olivos, wineries and vineyards. King bed does take up large portion of bedroom, but bed is very very comfortable. Lots of furry friends to keep you company. Quiet and relaxing, but close to town. Lovely view of olive orchard.
This cozy one bedroom section of the guest house has it's own private entrance and bath, with a lovely view of the olive orchard. This is the only bedroom in the guest house - all to yourselves! The bathroom is a full bath with a large tub and has its own hot water heater. The guest house is well shaded, there is both a front and back patio. Rental includes in room coffee service. BTW, we air dry our linens whenever possible. You are welcome to a complimentary olive oil tasting during normal business hours. The space now has a mini refridgerator. There is *no kitchen, cooking facilities or meal prep area*. Free wi-fi is available. There is no cable TV, but we provide an HD flat screen with an excellent selection of movies.
BEGINNING DECEMBER 1, 2014, we will need to collect 5% county bed tax on the total rental amount (not including the cleaning) that will be due upon arrival. (we pay the other 5%) Unfortunately there is no place to put this on the airbnb site. In addition we do not accept same day bookings after 12 noon that day.
There is an office adjacent to the bedroom that is used occasionally during the day, and sometimes for harp practice in the evening. There is *No TV* or *air conditioning*. We endeavor to provide a (very) comfortable bed and a place to explore the towns and surrounding wineries and countryside - it is good for wine tasting, cycling or exploring the small towns in the valley. If you want to hang out in the room and watch television and have air-conditioning, this is not the rental for you. This space is best suited to a single adult or a couple; there is not room for more than that, including children and pets . Property is a 20 acre ranch. Please be advised we have 4 dogs and 2 cats (plus chickens and horses). Because of that, we do not accept other pets, as we do not want to have any animal mishaps. The cottage is well shaded with large oaks. You have your own patio in the front of the cottage, and access to shared space. Dogs and cats do share the outdoor space and love visitors. Ladies, be advised that high heels are *not* recommended around the ranch. Nothing is paved, so having some comfortable walking shoes will make your experience much more pleasant. The days can be warm but the nights are usually cool, in the 40-50 degree range winter and 50 degree range in the summer. Our place is usually quiet with little traffic or other noise. The view of the olive grove in front of the guest house is very relaxing. Dogs do sometimes act as furry guides if you are exploring the property. Our property is across the street from a winery and in close proximity to the towns of Los Olivos and Santa Ynez.
Guests will be able to wander through the orchard, and also explore around the farm and check out the fabulous view from the top of our hill. Dogs often act as furry guides. Guests can also visit with the ranch dogs and kitties. Front and back patio use. As we have 4 dogs, including a bossy older Corgi female, please do not bring your pets. This is a non-smoking room.
Interaction with Guests
We are happy to recommend restaurants and wineries, museums and galleries, and also give directions for different activities. Other than that we give our visitors their space, Owners live on property and are available to solve any issues that may arise.
We are situated in the beautiful countryside close to Los Olivos. We are relatively close to town but not in town. There is a vineyard and winery across the street. You do need a car to access the towns in our valley - unless you like to ride your bike a fair distance. The neighborhood is mostly ranches and vineyards on large parcels, with ours having the most (olive) trees.
Not much in the way of public transportation, so a car is required to explore the area. Lots of cyclists are about, so bringing a bicycle to explore is a good idea. It is possible to walk to Los Olivos if you like a good stretch of the legs (about 1.5 miles) I have heard from guests that Uber is working for transportation in the valley.
Other Things to Note
This is a working ranch, so there is usually some activity going on - but not normally near the guest house. Dogs and cats share the outdoor space. There are horses kept on the property. There is plenty of birdsong in the morning, and always a lovely view.
We do not have a lot of rules - you will have your own space. All food taken into the guest house must be tightly wrapped (not left open) to avoid any possibility of ant invasions. We are on septic so request that only toilet paper be put into the toilet and to please keep that at a minimum. We are in the middle of a 5th year of drought, so we ask our guest to be water conscious. We are available but will not intrude on your space. We do not expect to hear a lot of noise after 10pm. This is a non-smoking area.
Proprietor of working olive ranch. Food obsessed and loves to travel. Nothing better than to be outdoors with all the animals and the relaxing country atmosphere. Passionate about growing olives and making olive oil.
