Unique rustic one bedroom & bath in guest house on working 20 acre olive ranch in the beautiful countryside of the Santa Ynez Valley. Private entrance, super comfortable king bed, ensuite full bath. Cozy wood-framed cottage. Non-smoking. Near Los Olivos, wineries and vineyards. King bed does take up large portion of bedroom, but bed is very very comfortable. Lots of furry dogs and cats to keep you company. Quiet and relaxing, but close to town. Lovely view of olive orchard.

The space

This cozy one bedroom section of the guest house has it's own private entrance and bath, with a lovely view of the olive orchard. This is the only bedroom in the guest house - all to yourselves. The king bed is one of the most comfortable beds you will ever sleep on! The bathroom is a full bath with a large tub and has its own hot water heater. The guest house is well shaded, there is both a front and back patio. Rental includes in room coffee service and breakfast snacks. BTW, we air dry our linens whenever possible. You are welcome to a complimentary olive oil tasting during normal business hours. The space now has a mini refridgerator. There is *no kitchen, cooking facilities or meal prep area*. Free wi-fi is available. There is no cable TV, but we provide an HD flat screen with an excellent selection of movies.
BEGINNING DECEMBER 1, 2014, we will need to collect a $7 county bed tax per evening. (not including the cleaning) that will be due upon arrival. (we pay the other $7) Unfortunately there is no place to put this on the airbnb site.
There is an office adjacent to the bedroom that is used occasionally during the day, and sometimes for harp practice in the evening. There is *No TV* or *air conditioning*. We endeavor to provide a (very) comfortable bed and a place to explore the towns and surrounding wineries and countryside - it is good for wine tasting, cycling or exploring the small towns in the valley. If you want to hang out in the room and watch television and have air-conditioning, this is not the rental for you. This space is best suited to a single adult or a couple; there is not room for more than that, including children and pets . Property is a 20 acre ranch. Please be advised we have 4 dogs and 2 cats (plus chickens and horses). The animals are not allowed in the room. Because of all our pets, we do not accept other pets, as we do not want to have any animal mishaps. The cottage is well shaded with large oaks. You have your own patio in the front of the cottage, and access to shared space. Dogs and cats do share the outdoor space and love visitors. Ladies, be advised that high heels are *not* recommended around the ranch. Nothing is paved, so having some comfortable walking shoes will make your experience much more pleasant. The days can be warm but the nights are usually cool, in the 40-50 degree range winter and 50 degree range in the summer. Our place is usually quiet with little traffic or other noise. The view of the olive grove in front of the guest house is very relaxing. Dogs do sometimes act as furry guides if you are exploring the property. Our property is across the street from a winery and in close proximity to the towns of Los Olivos and Santa Ynez.

Guest access

Guests are able to wander through the orchard, explore around the farm and check out the fabulous view from the top of our hill. We also have horses on the property. Dogs often act as furry guides. Guests can also visit with the ranch dogs and kitties. Front and back patio use. As we have 4 dogs, including a bossy Corgi female, please do not bring your pets. This is a non-smoking room.

Interaction with guests

We are happy to recommend restaurants and wineries, museums and galleries, and also give directions for different activities. Other than that we give our visitors their space, Owners live on property and are available to solve any issues that may arise.

Other things to note

This is a working ranch, so there is usually some activity going on - but not normally near the guest house. Dogs and cats share the outdoor space. There are horses kept on the property. There is plenty of birdsong in the morning, and always a lovely view.

We do need to know when you will be arriving - because we are very busy with our farm. So it is extremely important to keep in communication with us, especially if arriving after dark. The washer/dryer in the bathroom is *not* for guest use. Heaters should be turned off when you are not in the room. If there is any issue with anything not working properly, including the wifi, please contact us at once so that we can fix the situation right away. Please note that you are in Verizon land, and AT&T will not work very well in our area. All food taken into the guest house must be tightly wrapped and put in the fridge to avoid any possibility of ant invasions.
We are on septic so request that only toilet paper be put into the toilet and to please keep that at a minimum. We are in the middle of a 6th year of drought, so we ask our guest to be water conscious.
Please do not bring any bicycles into the room.
We are available but will not intrude on your space. We do not expect to hear a lot of noise after 10pm. This is a non-smoking room and area - and no vaping is allowed either.

We loved staying at Shannon's for a weekend getaway! The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed walking through the olive trees and exploring the property. Shannon's place is conveniently located near some great restaurants and wineries, and the olive oil tasting was delicious.

I brought my husband up to Santa Ynez because between work, having a bicoastal relationship, and our two crazy sons, I was sure he was headed for a heart attack. My husband is not an outdoorsy guy, so pulling onto an olive farm was a bit of a shock to his system. After an all too short today stay, as we were driving back to Los Angeles, he asked me "when do you think we can come back?" The cottage was absolutely darling. The bed was spectacular. It is everything everyone says about it. The dogs and the cats and the chickens and the horses were adorable. Shannon was a wonderful host with a warm welcome and full of great recommendations. The location was perfect. You could walk to at least four wineries, and were within a short drive to Solvang, Buellton, and a highly recommended dinner at First and Oak and breakfast at the Fess Parker Inn in Los Olivos (where there are over 50 tasting rooms!). The one thing you can't miss though is putting on your flip-flops and leaving the cottage for around midnight to stand in the open space near the horse stalls. The night sky was breathtaking. Watching for shooting stars while listening to the rustle of the wind through the olive trees was an emotional experience. Shannon's farm is heaven!

Shannon User ProfileShannon is a superhost.

Proprietor of working olive ranch. Food obsessed and loves to travel. Nothing better than to be outdoors with all the animals and the relaxing country atmosphere. Passionate about growing olives and making olive oil.
