I speak Spanish at an intermediate level and can recommend an extremely competent Spanish teacher for individual lessons at a very reasonable price. I have an urban organic garden and can provide information about where is buy organic produce. I am a Buddhist and can provide information about the Buddhist community in the area. I have one cat who is very friendly.
I expect quest to respect the quiet peaceful nature of the area. No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property. No pets are allowed.
My trip to San Miguel was to decide if this might be my retirement destination. Patricia was so helpful showing me what life is like for a single woman expat! Her home is comfortable and inviting and I already miss Fidel the cat and the parrot that wolf whistles at me!
My host was welcoming and was very helpful with advice and even took me shopping the first day I arrived as I needed something very specific that day. I found our conversations interesting and her collection of folk art is colourful and a creates a beautiful environment.
The neighborhood was safe during the day but I always took taxis home at night, as I would almost anywhere else in San Miguel except in the immediate centre. The walk to town, once you go back one block off the main road, is beautiful and takes about 20 minutes.
If you like a quiet sleep, away from the crazy business of the jardin, this could be just the place.
Pat was warm and caring. The neighborhood is a family neighborhood and is quiet.
Patricia is welcoming and warm. Patricia has lived in San Miguel for a long time and is extremely knowledgeable about all things San Miguel and Mexico too. She has a lovely home that is filled with beautiful things. The kitchen couldn't be better equipped. The bed is very comfortable and the room and area where the property if located is peaceful and quiet. I really can't say enough good things about Patricia or her home. The rooftop garden/patio, awesome cat, and lovely employees are added bonuses. The convenient location makes getting around San Miguel very easy. I can walk almost anywhere I'd want to go and the bus stop is close by. You really couldn't do better!
neighborhood great: safe , interesting
hostess,: interesting, engages well with all people, even with me
more than I expected,
I spent a couple lovely nights at Patricia´s home. Her home is beautiful, artistically decorated. The Hummingbird room is magical - there are constantly hummingbirds at the window, the bed is comfy and there is plenty space for personal items.
The location is perfect if you don´t mind taking a walk or taxi into town, peaceful street, easy to access transportation.
Best of all... Patricia´s urban garden where you can sample heirloom tomatoes and harvest lemongrass for an herbal tea.
We had a wonderful stay with Patty.. very enjoyable.. great place to walk everywhere in town. Patty is simply a great hostess, a great human being.. we love the place, it is very pretty, very nicely decorated and very secure.. all together, a very lovely experience!!
I am going into my seventh year in Mexico and during those seven years I have travel extensively –many many visits to Michoacán and Oaxaca and Puerto Vallarta, Melaque (four hours south of Puerto Vallarta), Merida and Cancun. The way I travel is to be able to focus on my main interest in Mexico which is the Folk Art of Mexico. I had two quarters to go to finish a BFA with an emphasis on Ceramic Sculpture and Life Drawing. So I have gone to the areas where Mexican ceramics are most famous, Oaxaca, Michoacán and in the state of Mexico, Metepec. I have never been a weaver but I am passionate about learning and collecting textiles-Huiples and rugs. I also make jewelry and I collect beads on my travels i.e. amber from Chiapas.
I stay in simple places to save money and so that I know I will be speaking Spanish and getting tips on finding the artist that I might want to speak to and learn from. I love reading book about artisans and how they make their crafts.
In SMA I go to art opening and because there are so many artist here-this is could be a weekly occurrence.
Simplicity lets me meet people easily. I am a psychiatric social worker so I like to listen to the stories about the lives of the artist and I enjoy hearing what drives them to do the work they do.
SMA offers all kind of music from rock and rolls, blues and jazz to opera and classical music all of which I love.
It also has theatre I particularly like the play readers group –they read plays on stage -a very high caliber of acting. And we must forget the Sunday afternoon Poetry group or the Writing conference and Poetry Conference.
There is also dance, salsa, tango all kinds of Latin dances… Flamenco –you can learn it here are just go out and dance.
Of course another passion is organic gardening-I go to the Tianguis Organica weekly to get the veggies that I don’t have in my own garden.
I also enjoy swimming in the local Hotel Aldea pool and going to the hot springs at La Grueta.
Oh let’s not forget the food in SMA! I just had the best Chiles en Nogada at the Bugambilia Restaurant, a wonderful dish of a stuffed poblano pepper-stuffed with ground meat and dried fruits with a white walnut sauce with red pomegranate seeds in top –traditionally eaten on Independence Day September 16th. There is also a gluten free restaurant –the Good Food Café that is amazing!
