Other Things to Note
We have two very sweet cats. They are not allowed in the guest room.
No smoking, drugs, or alcohol in the apartment.
Staying with Abby was a real pleasure. Abby was a gracious host. Everyone in the household was friendly and welcoming, including the cat. (Interaction with the cat is optional. She won't go in your room.)
The room was very comfortable for a solo traveler. The bed was comfortable. Storage space (dresser, closet) was ample. The room was very quiet. With the door closed, I literally could
not hear the other occupants in the house, whether they were in the adjacent bathroom or going about their daily business in the public rooms of the apartment. The room and the house were both very clean. Sharing the public areas of the house (bathroom, kitchen, living room) was trouble free. Convenient, relatively inexpensive laundry facility in the basement, too.
Only street parking is available, if you choose to bring a car. Typical to New York City, parking is limited, and you may have to move for the street sweepers. But I was always able to find a place relatively nearby, and was never worried about the security of my car. Public transportation is easily accessible, though, and Abby gives wonderful directions and advice.
The neighborhood is fantastic. Numerous restaurants and shopa, convenient grocery and drugstores. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, and the residents very friendly. At the risk of sounding sexist, if you are a solo female traveler, you couldn't feel safer here. The building is very secure. The neighborhood was safe and inviting. I came and went at all hours, including attending a neighborhood street festival one night, and never once felt uncomfortable.
In summary, staying with Abby was a great experience. I would definitely stay again, and would recommend it to other travelers.
I felt that this listing was a bargain given NY hotel prices and especially the lack of hotel options in Riverdale. Abby and Sara were more than accommodating. No major issues; the room was a tad warmer than I prefer, but a fan was provided that mitigated that issue.
Abby was a delightful hostess. She was extremely helpful in providing precise directions to take an express bus to her residence, checking in to ensure that I arrived, and posting detailed instructions on the guest bedroom bulletin board about local bus and subway lines. The room was clean and comfortable and the neighborhood was safe and excellent, with lots of (relatively) inexpensive eating places. She makes her guests her first priority, ensuring that they can use the apartment bathroom before her family does and providing space in her refrigerator and kitchen cabinets for any purchased food. I would recommend her hospitality to any other guest.
Abby is a very nice person. Place was in a very nice neighborhood. Coffee and restaurants like 50 yards away. Small but quaint, good for 1 person. Little on the warm side for someone who likes it really cool at night. But I'm a big guy and run not. She also said she was going to install another unit soon so 2 thumbs up . Brisk but ez walk to train. #1 goes straight downtown. Gypsy cabs for walk back up the neighborhood when u come back for $8. But I'm usually lazy and tired when I got back. Overall good experience. I'd come back easily. :-)
My comments to my visit in Riverdale June 25-July 2 also apply to my visit July 5 -8.If someone comes back as foten as I do you should not bother with requests for new comments, please. Hans Christner
Abby was very kind and helpful. Her apartment is pretty big especially for NYC standards. It is clean and comfortable with easy access to the subway. I highly recommend her place for your next NYC stay.
I have been 5-6 times with Abbe in the last 15 months.Ofcourse I like the appartment, service and the hostess, otherwise I would not come back. That is all I have to say. Regards Hans Christner
