Cozy farmhouse cottage in Shady, small hamlet 3 mi from Woodstock, cultural events, restaurants, galleries. Mtn view,woodstove,2 bdrms. A 3rd bdrm can be avail for longer stays.Renovated kitchen, hardwd floors.Clean, quiet, peaceful, perfect for retreat. Special monthly winter rates beginning Dec1- April 1. A beautiful place for a longer respite!

The space

There is actually no cell service in our little valley- take a break from the business of the modern world. We also have a resident flock of free range chickens so the place comes w complementary fresh eggs if you are willing to retrieve them for their coop.

Guest access

The house is pretty much open except for a smaller locked room that can be available upon request. We do store things in the downstairs hallway closet and the basement is generally not recommended especially for children- we do have a child gate to prevent going down stairs to basement. The garage ( a separate building) is also private.

Interaction with guests

We areaways available for questions and occasionally we are in the cottage next door.

Other things to note

Two night minimum stay. We are pet friendly to polite animals- please keep dogs on leash as there are old neighbors and many wild animals as well as an occasional speedy car on our lane.

Julie's place was the perfect respite from nyc. The kitchen is so well equipped and the dishware is lovely. The garden is full of kale, chard, basil, sage, oregano, and many varieties of flowers. The chickens cluck around freely and are very friendly. And the mountain view is soothing. I highly recommend staying at Julie's place!

Response from Julie:
I am glad you enjoyed our place and our chicken/ comedians. The brown cottage is not available through the winter but the cottage next door is.( Listed as antique worker's cottage. We would love to host you again! ( We also have larger house in Sarasota florida if you prefer the sunshine!)

Had a wonderful time at Julie's place. The location is amazing: 5 minutes away from Woodstock (a charming little town with great restaurants, bookstores and artsy vibe), but very quiet and picturesque. The house itself is a rustic summer cottage. It needs some TLC in a couple of places, but is very comfortable for a weekend getaway. The main attraction for us were the chickens! Julie has a flock of very friendly and happy chickens that roam freely during the day. And the chickens is what the kids will probably remember from this trip ;-) They fed the chickens, retrieved fresh eggs, tried to teach them tricks! Great fun. Julie is very easy to communicate with, and we really appreciated her laid-back and easy-going attitude.

Nice cottage and garden, cosy fireplace, quiet surroundings, easy to reach and well connected to villages and trail-heads. Easy communication and smooth check-in. Exactly as described. Thank you, Julie!

My family had a lovely stay at Julie's place. The house is older and has a few quirks of age, but it was comfortable, extremely clean, and Julie prepared for us very thoughtfully. We found everything we needed there. We enjoyed the view from the front window and the whole family got a kick out of the very happy and pretty chickens wandering around.

The place was a lovely cabin in a quiet neighborhood. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. The location is just a few miles outside of Woodstock and about a 15 minute drive to Phoenicia. Julie had a great stream of communication. Our only complaint is that the furniture could use to be updated and felt a bit musty. The bathroom had low water pressure has a strong sulphur smell so it made showering difficult. There was also a large hole in the wall in the bedroom upstairs that was covered with a tarp and freaked our kids out a bit.

Was just about perfect. Couldn't ask for more than to wake up to the sound of the creek and birds chirping.

We are a professor and an artist- Although we love the Catskills - the beautiful creeks, the mysterious mountains we also enjoy an occasional break in the tropics and the lovely white sands of Siesta Key. We are passionate about animals , ( we have multiple dogs cats etc,) and care greatly about the future of our planet and green living. We have enjoyed hosting greatly and hope our guests find a peaceful respite in our homes.
