The Space

Built in the 1860s, The Schoolhouse, Annaghmore is an attractive rural building picturesquely located by the Owenmore River and surrounded by mature woodland. The building retains many original decorative features including ornamental wooden bargeboards and lattice windows surmounted by wooden hood mouldings. The most striking feature is the projecting oriel window on the upper east gable. The L-shaped one and a half storey building originally comprised of a two-storey accommodation area (the schoolmaster's residence) and a double height schoolroom. Some 19th Century schoolhouse furnishings still survive including the schoolhouse fireplace, coat hooks and chalkboards.

This charming rural schoolhouse on the Annaghmore Estate which has been owned by the O'Hara family for several centuries, features distinctively Tudor Revival decorative elements. Built in the 1860s as a school for the estate tenants' children, it is an attractive rural building picturesquely located on the banks of the Owenmore river and surrounded by mature woodland.

There is local folklore surrounding the last tenant of the schoolhouse. Hughie Savage was a bachelor who farmed on the other side of the Owenmore river and kept cattle in the mountains. He lived at Annaghmore without electricity or running water and did not have a bank account. He kept all his money in a tin box which legend says is still buried somewhere at Annaghmore since it has never been found!

  • This cozy property is tucked away on a quiet country road. It was full of personality. The property manager was lovely - she helped us with finding things and provided milk for our coffee in the morning. The bed was comfortable. The under-floor heating was luxurious. We kept the windows open a lot of the time because the floor heat kept the place warm. The fireplace is available if you get cold. Really there was nothing better than reading our books curled up on the couch while it rained outside. There's lots of restaurants in Bushmills and Portrush. We were very happy here.

  • The Merrion Mews was the perfect venue for me and my travel companions! After long days of sightseeing, it was such a relaxing and QUIET place to come home to. We spent the mornings in the kitchen planning our adventures over a pot of tea, then relaxed in the cozy living room in the evenings. Our host was able to be flexible to our travel arrival/departure times, and gave us a great orientation to the property and how everything worked. This property was much better than finding three hotel rooms for our group; the bedrooms were all comfortable sizes, and the kitchen and living room gave us lots of space to spread out. I would not hesitate to book this property on my next trip to Dublin!

  • The House is very big, unique, clean and ideal to explore Dublin and specially the Temple Bar region. Also Dairine and Shirley were very flexible about the check-in and check-out. We had a great time and would come back anytime.

  • Wonderful stay in this flat !!!
It's a classical georgian flat with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, perfect for 7 girls !
It is really well positionated : in Temple Bar, which means that you can do every thing by walking: night life, visiting college, cathedral etc...
Shirley was very nice and helpful with arrival and departure's time.
Perfect for a week-end or a week to discover Dublin !
I would totally recommend this place !

  • Great house, nice, comfortable and warm. We were 5 friends coming from Paris and it was perfect. Only need to walk like ten minutes to go anywhere. We recommend it!

  • What a lovely, lovely place to stay in Dublin. So beautiful, full of character and charm, has everything you need and it's in a great central location. We'll be back!

  • This accommodation is absolutely fantastic! My friends and I stayed here for St. Patrick's Festival and it couldn't have been better. First of all, the location can't be beat as it is just around the corner from the Temple Bar where all the partying happens. Of course, noise is to be expected in such an area but we were fine with it. Didn't have to pay taxis/transportation all weekend (aside from the airport) because we were in the center of everything! Secondly, the place itself is incredible. Three floors of space, which was more than enough room for 8 of us! Loved the fireplace, and even got to use the bathtub! I can confidently say on behalf of my whole group that we had zero complaints about this accommodation and we would do it again in a heartbeat. Thank you so much, Irish Landmark!

  • The house was really nice and wonderful. It is an old property but it is renovated, well decorated and furnished.
We were 6 people and the only negative point is that, despite of there were 2 bathrooms, just one shower was able to use.
We have spend very nice days during St. Patrick´s festival and the property was very good located to go to the center by walk.

  • We were six guys having a great stay at this large, beautiful townhouse. Shirley, the House Manager, was really helpfull. The only downside with the townhouse was that the water in the shower never got properly warm and the bedroms to were a bit cold. Luckily the fireplace in the livingroom weighted up for this. I'll definatly choose this townhouse the next time I'm going to Dublin.

About
Irish Landmark is a non-profit organisation that finds interesting and unusual properties that are in need of conservation, and we give them new life. Since 1992, we’ve been turning historic buildings into truly special self-catering holiday accommodation. Our properties range from lighthouses and schoolhouses, to castles and gate lodges. As an educational charity, our primary aim is to conserve and sustain iconic buildings. That’s why Irish Landmark properties are living buildings, not museum settings. Irish Landmark always respects the history and architectural integrity of the structures we conserve, but we also ensure they have all the contemporary comforts you want in a holiday home.
