In Currituck, near the Outer Banks

On five quiet acres of Currituck mainland, about a 10-min drive to the northern Outer Banks beaches

A club room all its own

A separate club room across the drive with a bar, outdoor grill, and rocking chairs facing the pond

A home with history and heart

Built by a duck hunter who left the door open for friends, the home still has that unhurried feel
A Currituck family home with its own club room across the drive: a bar, a kitchenette, and rockers looking out over a private pond, 10 minutes from the northern Outer Banks beaches. The house sleeps 7, with the club room and sun porch for watching the world go by. It was built by a duck hunter who kept the door open for friends passing through, and it still feels that way: easy, unhurried, room to spread out. Come for the beach, the golf, and the waterpark – stay for the pond and the porch.

The space
Waterfield Place sits on five quiet acres in mainland Currituck (the stretch locals call a sportsman's paradise) ten minutes from the northern Outer Banks beaches, with the H2OBX Waterpark just up the road and six golf courses within 15 miles. It's a family home built by a duck hunter, and it still has his easy, unhurried feel.

The house sleeps seven across three bedrooms and two baths. The main-floor bedroom has a queen and a twin, with its own adjoining bath. Upstairs, one bedroom has a queen and the other has two twins; those two share a second bath.

The living room and kitchen are roomy and made for gathering, and a glassed-in sun porch runs along the front of the house, making it the place for morning coffee as the sun comes up, or an afternoon in the light.

Across the drive is the Garage (the club room) and the heart of the property. It has a bar, a kitchenette, a half bath, an outdoor grill, and a row of rocking chairs in the window looking back toward the drive. It's where everyone tends to end up. Come back from the beach or the water, fire up the grill, and settle in without tracking through the house.

The five acres hold a stocked pond with a fountain, a carport, and plenty of room to park. After a day outdoors, it's an easy place to spread out and come back to.

Guest access
The house, club room, and grounds are yours for the stay. We keep a few closets locked to store supplies.

Other things to note
A little about the place —

Waterfield Place was built by Herbert Lee Waterfield, a Currituck duck hunter who reclaimed this ground, put the house on it, and dug the pond that's still out back. The building across the drive he called the Garage, though it was always more than a garage. It was where he kept a bar, his decoys, and his hunting gear, and where friends turned up on cold afternoons. He left the door open and the bar stocked so anyone passing through could stop in, and he set the rocking chairs in the window facing the drive, because that's the direction company came from.

The house has stayed in the family since, and we've been slow about changing things, but the decoys and old prints are still up, and the same easy welcome with them.

A few honest notes, so the place is what you're picturing:

• We're on the Currituck mainland, not the oceanfront. The beaches are a ten-minute drive. The sun and the sand are close, but a drive, not a walk.

• This is a real, lived-in family home. It's comfortable and full of character. If you like somewhere with history and heart, this is very much it.

• The pond is pretty and not fenced. Please keep an eye on little ones near the water.

• It's quiet out here: five acres, dark skies, birdsong, the odd mosquito in summer. The peace is the point.

• The club room (the Garage) is a separate building across the drive. The bar, grill, and a half bath are out there, not in the main house.

• Waterfields still own Waterfield Place.
