This unique apartment is located in a restored vaulted stone cellar in an over 200 year old palazzo perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the sea. Relax on your private garden terrace, enjoy the late morning sun, have an aperitivo while watching the sunset. From this quiet residential area of the oldest part of Pizzo's centro storico it's just a 2 min walk to the lively main square with a good choice of restaurants, bars and grocery shops. The local beach is a 10-15 min walk downhill.

The space
This unique apartment is located in the restored vaulted cellar of an over 200 year old palazzo with a floor space of about 70 m2 (753 sq ft).

From the entrance 20 steep stone steps are leading downstairs, passing the bathroom, into a bright hallway with large windows facing the sea.

The new and well equipped kitchen at the end of the hallway allows to prepare breakfast and cook meals. From the kitchen you have a balcony with sea view and access to the garden terrace.

The bedroom with its queen size bed sleeps 2. It is separated by a paravent from the living area and its sofa bed and TV. The living area has access to the garden terrace. See also our layout floor map (photo).

The private garden terrace offers spectacular sea and sunset views over the bay of St.'Eufemia and on clear days views of the Vulcano island Stromboli which is part of the Eolian Islands of Sicily. Enjoy an aperitivo on your private terrace before having dinner in one of Pizzo's many little reasonable priced restaurants.

The local beach at Pizzo Marina below the castello is a 10-15 minutes walk (about 400m) away across the piazza and downhill. Back to the residence it's a 15 min walk, or call the Ape-taxi service if it is too tiring to walk uphill.

The apartment (completely restored 2007-2012) has double glazing windows, central heating, air condition, small washing machine, large SMEG fridge, oven/microwave and WIFI. Free parking in public area.

Our renovation project of the palazzo is chronicled on my popular blog and was featured in The New York Times and International Herald Tribune in May 2012.

Where you’ll be

Pizzo, Calabria, Italy

Pizzo with its charming centro storico on a cliff and its famous tartufo ice cream is lively all year round. (Tropea is dead in winter and too touristy in summer).

At the main square you will find a good selection of restaurants and bars to choose as well as shops to buy daily grocery. At Pizzo Marina, 10 min walk away, are further restaurants, including a good choice of pizzerias. The village also has three fish vendors, some fruit and veggie vendors, deli shops, 2 mini marts (alimentari), bakeries, butchers, clothes shops, souvenir shops, jewelers, ceramic studio, tin craft shop and a pharmacy - all in walking distance. Larger supermarkets (Coop, Aquilone) can be reached in about 5 min by car.

The Costa degli Dei (coast of gods) stretches 70 km from Pizzo to Nicotera, south of Capo Vaticano and Tropea. Discover your own favorite beaches, among picturesque white sandy beaches, pebble beaches and cliffs surrounded beaches.

The best time to travel is from MAY to OCTOBER.
In APRIL, usually the temperatures of the air and sea are still cool, and their might be stormy and rainy days, but also beautiful sunny spring days. It is definitely less touristy - and that's why we like it in Pizzo in April. Some people already go for a swim in April. (Average low at night 11 degree, average high 18 degree Celsius). In OCTOBER it is still warm (average low 16, average high 22), less touristy, usually lots of sunshine, but weather is getting more unstable. NOVEMBER can be very lovely still, and often locals still go for a swim as the weather can be like summer! But if you want to explore the mountains, you might find already some snow. There are ski lifts just 1 1 /2 h drive from Pizzo in Sila. The hottest (average high 31) and most busy month is AUGUST, when all Italy travels to the beaches. If you love the craziness, the nightly entertainment, the traffic, the chaos and to eat around 10pm in a vibrant piazza, then welcome to Pizzo in August. - Rain: Please note, the wind makes the clouds travel fast, showers are usually short between May and October. That's why Calabria is so green. In DECEMBER you could have 15 degrees and more during a sunny day. The Christmas lights are up in the piazza and beside some processions there is a ‘presepe vivente’ organised by Pizzitani in the oldest alleys of Pizzo (around via Paladini), usually on December 26.

Buongiorno !

We are an Italian-German family and enjoy the simple life in Pizzo Calabro (VV), the authentic taste of South Italian food, la grande bellezza del mare, Calabria with its hidden gems - and Pizzo’s world famous tartufo ice cream!

We work as "Palazzo Pizzo Team" as not all of us are always on site.

We rent three apartments:

"Palazzo Pizzo Residence" is the 1 bedroom guest residence of an over 200 year old palazzo on a cliff overlooking the sea which we call "Palazzo Pizzo", our Italian home.

"Studio Bellavista" a 1 bedroom apartment and "Dependance delle Grazie" a 2 bedroom apartment are located in another old house that we newly renovated and which is just a stone throw from the lively piazza.

You can find more information about us, our apartments, about Pizzo and day trips by searching for PALAZZO PIZZO, sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media.

Mille Grazie, a presto in Pizzo!
