The Space

This is one of our larger most charming corner units with approximately 1,100 Sq Ft. The unit features a private balcony with ocean views, air conditioning, flat screen cable tv, wifi internet, large separate bedroom with king size bed and bathroom, living room with a futon that sleeps 1 more person, second full bathroom in living room area, dinning room, and fully equipped kitchen (gas stove, refrigerator, microwave, sink). We cater mostly to gay visitors who want to relax and have a good time. No children are allowed, but open-minded adults of all preferences are.

The BEST location in town if you wish to be in the middle of the gay "Zona Romantica" neighborhood and half a block from Los Muertos Beach and beach clubs. The neighborhood is very charming and safe with tons of entertainment options. Just an easy walk to Puerto Vallarta's gay night life. And there are tons of restaurants and bars in the neighborhood for any taste. Our guests rarely need to use a taxi at all. Mostly everywhere you'll want to be is walking distance from us.

Building amenities include courtyard with swimming pool, 2 restaurant/bars in the building connected to our courtyard, roof tanning terrace with partial ocean views, maid/cleaning service every day, lobby with concierge, free Nespresso for guests, and a taxi stop right across the street.

Walking distance attractions include:

* Pulpito-Amapas with its restaurants, bars and farmer's market
* Olas Altas Street with its cafes and restaurants
* Los Muertos Beach and Conchas Chinas
* The Blue Chairs beach club
* The Malecón with its nightlife, galleries and shops
* The Church of Guadalupe, Vallarta's Historic Cathedral
* The Cuale River market and river walk
* The new pier at "Los Muertos" with daily water taxis to nearby attractions and beach towns.

This is a charming building with studio rooms, one bedroom units and lofts. "Tropical Mexican Architecture", there are other units available. Please let me know of any questions. The beach photo was taken a block away from the building at the adjacent "Muertos" Beach in Zona Romantica (Romantic Zone).

As opposed to most places that do not allow visitors; here you MAY have visitors in your unit at anytime!! However we require discretion and that you and any visitors respect our property and other guests please. NO big groups and/or loud parties in the units are allowed. Thank you!

We will also send you additional information that will be useful for your arrival and stay with us prior to your travel dates. :-)

  • This was the perfect listing for our trip! The listing is a lot larger than what you expect! Because it is a corner unit, you have a large outdoor deck that hugs around the building - they also put out two chairs so you can sit out with a book while enjoying the sunset (we did that every night we were there). The complex has a small pool that's perfect after soaking in the sun on their sun deck, which is on their third floor. There is a bar and a restaurant in the same complex and we HIGHLY recommend getting Guava Coladas at Restaurant Maia. We had two every night... and we stayed a week here!

The listing is perfectly located, it is only a very short block away from the beach and is also close to where the Malecon begins. Just as you hit the beach, on your left there is a beach hut that holds sunrise and sunset yoga - I definitely recommend taking advantage of it! The restaurant on the right has a delicious Tortilla Soup that is to die for - so definitely try that out.

  • My husband and I just celebrated our honeymoon here. We were greeted by a beautiful bouquet of flowers in the room.

The place was exactly as described. Very centrally located to the beach, great restaurants and shopping. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

  • We had a great 11-day stay in Room 106 at Villa Mercedes. After seeing the room, it's clear that the pictures don't give an accurate sense of just how large this unit is. Out in the main area, there is a full kitchen, with a large dining room and even larger living room area with a futon. The separate bedroom is huge with a king-sized bed and walk-in closet. There are two bathrooms, one connected to the bedroom and the other in the hallway by the entry.

One of my favorite things about the room is the balcony, which is probably about 30 feet long, wrapping around the entire perimeter of the unit. It is narrow, but wide enough to bring out a chair and take in the entertaining street activity or watch the sunset over the bay.

The location of the unit is excellent, located above a convenience store, next to several nice restaurants, and just a block from the beach. The unit is located in a small boutique hotel and the service is much better than a typical Airbnb condo rental. We had excellent daily maid service, with fresh bathroom and beach towels every day. The staff was very friendly and professional.

The communication with Oscar and Raul before our stay was excellent. They responded to every message very quickly and provided us with all of the information we needed prior to arrival. I would book with them again in a heartbeat!

One negative I would add is that the wifi is unreliable. They provided us with four different wifi logins and we found two that worked in certain parts of the unit. Our friends were staying in another room and could only connect outside on their balcony. I think the reality is that the thick concrete walls make it difficult to connect to routers outside of the unit. If I ran this place, I might consider putting routers inside each of the units.

Other reviews of this hotel have complained about the condo construction to the south, which seems to be just about finished. It was on the opposite side of the building from our room, so we had no problems with noise. Even street noise was pretty minimal with the windows/doors closed and the AC on. The new condo building does block most of the sunlight from the courtyard where the pool is located. I never saw anyone in the pool during our 11 day stay, probably because the water was pretty cold. It probably needs to be heated now with the lack of sunlight.

We have visited Puerto Vallarta for nine years straight and this has been our favorite place to stay as far as accommodations and location. If you go, check out NU, a tapas restaurant/bar across the street. You will also have the benefit of their live music (mellow, jazzy) most nights wafting across the street.

    Response from Oscar And Raul:

    Hello Jim!
We are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! We do apologize about the issues with the wifi and want to clarify that a whole new system is being installed to avoid reception problems from ALL rooms. We've had issues with the signal particularly in this room and a couple more, but this won't be an issue once the new antennas are installed in a couple of weeks.
With regards to the pool, yes, unfortunately because of the new building next door, the pool only gets limited amounts of sun especially in the winter time, so we also are planning on installing a heater for next winter season as well as finishing remodeling our roof top terrace so that people can also tan there where there's tons of sun and nice views.
Thank you again! We hope you come back.

  • Nice and clean apt and great location. Also, nice to have 2 full baths. Downfalls were noise from the street and construction. During the day constant traffic and lots of honking horns. In addition there is only 1 chair on the balcony for sitting out and the pool is shaded and cool. Overall, nice experience and the front desk was helpful with any needs. I think we would stay in the area (email hidden) next time.

    Response from Oscar And Raul:

We are glad to hear you had a nice experience Ted. Thank you. With regards to the noise, we want to clarify that this unit is right on the corner and might get a bit more street noise than the rest. The noise though is mostly during the day with beach goers and some cars passing by, most of our other guests have not found the noise to be that bad (please refer to other reviews). We however are not in a quiet neighborhood. The location is in the center of the gay village and beach so there is constant street life mostly during the day. If you wish a very quiet place, this is definitely not the place for you. We recommend a place up in the hills for that where they have beautiful homes (the down side is they are not walking distance from anything like we are). With regards to construction next door, it is now about 99% finished, so this will no longer be an issue. Thank you again, and next time please just ask us for another chair! We would've been more than happy to send a couple more chairs for your balcony!! :-)

  • Superb! My review is glowing...I just want to be sure this spot doesn't get TOO popular and the rest of you leave us a week next year to stay here again.

The location can't be beat: right in the center of everything. Beach view from the patio. There's a safe and ample closet space in the unit. It's really quite big. You're part of the Villa Mercedes botique hotel setup, so there's daily maid service and a nighttime security gate. Really exceeded our expectations. Remember: don't tell TOO many people about this gem. We want to return!

  • After many, many trips to Puerto Vallarta over the years, we finally found a place that we love! We've stayed at everything from high-end resorts, to "gay-friendly" hotels, to the well-known gay hotels, and have had problems with them all. Either they are way too far from Zona Romantica where we like to stay, or the beds are incredibly uncomfortable and hard, or they are not clean (I even got bedbugs from one of the better-known places once!), or it was hard to communicate with the staff. But, not here. The rooms are clean and well-designed, the beds are super comfortable, the location couldn't be better, and the staff are wonderful and friendly and speak great english. We had an amazing week at Villa Mercedes and will definitely be back!

Even if you don't choose to stay here, you MUST TRY the restaurant called MAIA. It is incredible!

  • We just returned and loved our stay!
Oscar and Raul were extremely helpful whether it was communication before arrival or giving us tips about getting around town and places to eat while we were there. The entire staff was extremely friendly and professional. They helped us find vegetarian meals, plan a birthday outing and even helped us book an outstanding whale watching adventure.

We were surprised at how close to the beach we actually were--its less than a block from the front door. We were even able to spot whales while sitting in the living room on more than one occasion. Lots of great food options and a small grocery store down the street as well.

  • This spacious suite is comfortable and well-located. It's an attractive space with plenty of light, patio doors that open the living room to the outdoors and a nice view down Pulpito to the beach half a block away.

The large bed was reasonably comfortable. The water pressure was a little weak, so the shower was more of a dribble. Be aware that there is a fair bit of traffic noise as trucks rev to get up the hill. And there is a construction project next door making a bit or racket six days a week, but hopefully not much longer,

Oscar and Raul answered all of our questions. We were able to check in early. They even found the shoes I accidently left behind! Would definitely stay there again.

  • I'm delighted to write a review for Villa Mercedes as my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Oscar and Raul were wonderful hosts, and the staff (Vero, Betsy and the ever smiling Martina) were helpful and polite at all times. The hotel itself is older style but clean, simple and stylish. In my opinion it is located in the best part of PV, and has everything you could wish for within an easy walk- the beach, restaurants, bars, one of the world's best health food cafes (Salud), shops, laundry, massage and pharmacies and more. Despite being in the centre of the action, surprisingly noise was not an issue. Room 106 was fantastic value for it's size and location. We would happily return. Thank you again for a super relaxing stay, Penelope

My business partner and I are both architects and own/manage a small boutique hotel (Villa Mercedes Petit Hotel) in the heart of Puerto Vallarta's "Romantic Zone", just steps away from Puerto Vallarta's Los Muertos Gay Beach and the best attractions in town. Our architecture studio is in the same building and we have an office in Los Angeles as well. We cater mostly to gay visitors who want to relax and have a good time; no children are allowed but open-minded adults of all preferences are welcome. We will be happy to help you with any questions you might have about our units, so please don't hesitate to ask. Also, we'd be very happy to assist you at your arrival (and throughout your stay) with tips and recommendations about what to do while in town. Cheers!
