The Space

Our private guest house, located in an extrememely safe and central location between SMU and downtown Dallas, was originally built in 1918, and was totally renovated a few years ago. The guesthouse has central heat and air, free internet access, large bathroom with enclosed shower, new extremely comfortable full bed, a large flat screen tv with cable access, microwave, small refrigerator, coffee maker, iron, ironing board and dishes. We have added new cabinets in the bathroom, a new table and 2 chairs in the bedroom and very bright LED outdoor lighting for the guest house area. Our cable programming includes all major cable channels including Showtime and HBO. Our guests can use our beautiful private pool anytime. There are extra towels for the pool on the porch. We prefer to have at most two adult guests in the guest house unless special arrangements have been made in advance. If needed we have a new air-bed.

The large 250 square foot covered porch seating area with new railings is the perfect place to relax, take a nap, read a book, have a glass of wine or have a cup of coffee in the summer, spring and fall and on occasional warm winter days. Parking is on the street in our extremely safe neighborhood. Wonderful restaurants, stores and SMU are within walking distance. The running and biking trails are just feet away. Sheets, towels, glasses, wine glasses, dishes, iron, ironing board, blow dryer, shampoo and conditioner and a water cooler are included.

Our home is just an 8 minute walk to bus line 21 at McKinney and Monticello. The bus will take you to Mockingbird Station, one of our light rail stations. By car we are about 5 minutes to downtown Dallas. Also many of our guests have walked to the Mockingbird Station.

There are no pets allowed, although we do now have Sophie, a yellow labrador retriever born November 12, 2011. You are more than welcome to play with her. Sophie lives inside our home. Please be careful to close the gate so that Sophie does not leave our premises. Also please do not smoke inside the guest house.

We require a verified phone number, information about you and your guest, if any, and the reason for your trip. Please let us know if you have any questions and we will be happy to respond right away. We cherish our guests and have thoroughly enjoyed having our guest house and meeting people from all over the world. We wish you safe journeys always.

Guest Access

Our beautiful yard and lounge chairs and pool are always open for our guests. If available the driveway can be used by our guests.

Interaction with Guests

We love to interact with our guests. We also understand that everyone deserves their privacy and alone time. If we are at home and you want to hang out we would love to do that. That is why we opened up the guest house.

The Neighborhood

Great restaurants, stores and magnificent homes. Extremely safe. The Katy Trail running track is just behind the house.

Getting around

Dart buses and trains are within walking distance. Stores and restaurants as well as SMU are within walking distance.

  • What a great place to stay! Honestly, a highlight of my trip. The garden/pool is very oasis-like and inviting. The guesthouse is air-conditioned, which was perfect in the July heat and has everything you need. Comfortable bed, flat screen TV, wifi-access, a larger than expected bathroom, microwave, fridge and all the basics you would get in a hotel plus supplied plates/cups/dishes etc and a filtered water machine. Having the Katy trail outside was delighful for someone who likes to run/walk. Easy walking access to great local restaurants too.

William and Martin are great hosts. Welcoming and full of information. From the get-go they were flexible and understanding of my late arrival due to disasterous weather. I did get to meet Sophie their lab who is friendly and well-behaved. I didn't hear a peep from her the whole time I was there. I had a friend or two over to visit without issue too. When they had some family over on the weekend, they welcomed me to join them and were kind enough to feed me too. Two absolutely stellar people. If fate should ever find me back in the area, I would certainly look to stay with them.

  • Marty and Will have a very nice property, and were really welcoming. The guest house is cozy and well equipped. Location is great, as well. Proximity to the Katy Trail (to run, bike, walk) couldn't be closer...literally touches their property. Uptown is 3 minutes by car, 20 mins walking. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

  • Marty and Will were great hosts! The cottage was so cute and outfitted with everything I needed. The house was clean and the property was well cared for. I loved the pool and the quiet retreat that the house provived. I also really enjoyed being able to walk to lots of cute restaurants and shops. I would definitely stay here again when travelling to Dallas!

  • We had a wonderful introduction to Texas and southern hospitality staying at the Guest House in the Garden. The location is excellent and the surrounding area is delightful. Marty and Will are wonderful hosts, and made our stay very memorable. We enjoyed Dallas and would love to come back one day and would definitely book into Marty and Wills Guest House. Thanks Marty and Will for a great start to our holiday in America.

  • Marty and Will were delightful hosts. He replied promptly and completely to all correspondence. The casita is beautiful, calm and relaxing. This is in a beautiful part of Dallas and convenient to everything!

We only hope their listing does not become too popular because we definitely want to stay there on future Dallas trips.

  • The back house was just as promised. We didn't have any requests. Everything was ready for us. Coffee maker, towels, wifi, etc. It's walking distance to great restaurants and in the best neighborhood in Dallas. We spent some time just enjoying the welcoming porch and pool. It is very private and safe. They made themselves available if we needed anything. Very welcoming.

  • Marty and Will are gracious, charming hosts and their place is truly one-of-a-kind. The setting is one of Dallas' historic neighborhoods, with authentic and well-maintained Craftsman and Prairie-style homes (and the odd McMansion, but hey, it's Dallas). They have lovingly restored their property that now includes the main house, large backyard with gorgeous pool and the guest casita, and a detached garage with tenant-occupied apartment in back. They made arrival so easy, I wasn't worried about arriving late after an international flight -- I just walked in the backyard and picked up the key. The casita is best for only 2 people but it has a comfy bed, armoire, flat-screen TV, tall mini-fridge and coffee maker, and a full-size shower. One of my favorite amenities was four-legged -- their sweet yellow lab Sophie! I had the chance to relax and chat with Marty and Will and they are wonderful hosts. I hope to stay there on my next visit.

  • Beautiful garden! Marty and William were very helpful; William came with a huge umbrella to shelter us during the storm. I would love to stay here again.

  • Idyllic guest house in the heart of Highland Park, a safe and charming neighbourhood of Dallas. We were thankful for the easy parking, comfortable bed and reliable WIFI. Marty and Will were nothing but friendly and welcoming. We were only sorry we did not get to take advantage of the very inviting pool!

William and I have been partners since January 15, 2006. We love to travel and meet people from all over the world. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting and look forward to staying with other hosts through Airbnb in the USA and in countries all over the world. We both enjoy eating in all types of restaurants and will even take pictures of our food. We both work very hard at our jobs and also enjoy a relaxing evening at home with our labrador retriever Sophie and sometimes with William's children. We also spend time doing charity work with the Dallas Theater Center Guild. We take pleasure in improving our 1918 home including the guest house. We have our bucket list of places to see around the world and look forward to every trip. We have been on cruises in Europe and Hawaii and have done some extensive travel by plane and train in Europe and China. We have met some of our best friends in the world while traveling and have found wonderful friends through Airbnb hosting.
