The Space

Located on our property in the historic Eldorado Springs Valley is an authentic 19th century blacksmith shop which we have remodeled it into a unique getaway. Just minutes south of Boulder, you will find gorgeous views and nature surrounding you, from horses in the pasture next door to the local wildlife, such as deer, fox, and owl.

This special place has its own unique character and all the comforts of home. It is private, spacious (675 sq. ft.) and very quiet at night. You can see the stars.

The bedroom has a picture window with a stunning view, queen pillow top bed, and a beautiful sliding barn door. The entire place is recent construction that I continue to add to and embellish with art and color.
There are two living areas, one by the entrance and another next to the kitchen. The black futon couch in one of the living areas unfolds into a bed for an extra person or two children. In addition, there is a full size Ikea sleeper sofa in the front living area next to the bedroom. Other amenities include a skylight, kitchen with all the essentials, TV and DVD player, internet access, and a small patio area and parking right in front. The natural light inside is beautiful.

A fantastic trail system is just minutes away. Enjoy hiking, running, mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, depending on the season. Two miles up the road from here is Eldorado Canyon, featuring Eldorado State Park, where hiking, world class rock climbing and scenic vistas happen. Also located in the canyon is the Eldorado Springs Pool, a wonderful artesian spring fed pool, so refreshing and fun in the summertime. Downtown Boulder seems a world away, although it is actually a 5-10 minute drive. There are bike paths all the way into town.

We are both artists and our home and studio are on the property. Feel free to come by the house anytime during your stay to chat and visit. We know a lot about the area and can help with ideas about things to do. We'd love to have you as our guests!

  • We had a very pleasant stay at Susan's Blacksmith shop! The place had a lot of charm and was very clean. I really appreciated the calm and the absence of electric lights outside. I had a very good night of sleep there, which was very appreciated after a day of hiking! Susan always responded quickly (1 hour max) and the indications were very clear. We ll come back there for our next trip to Boulder!

  • The blacksmith shop was a charming, spacious spot to settle into for our first night on this trip to Colorado. Loved the colors, especially the artsy lamp in the bedroom! And the view of the mountains from the high bedroom windows is amazing. We had trouble figuring out how to turn on the shower, but Susan promptly answered our phone call and the puzzle was solved in seconds. When we return to Boulder again, we will definitely check to see if the blacksmith shop is available!

  • This place was so wonderful! We wished that we could have stayed longer. Spacious, comfortable, well furnished and peaceful. Just 10 minutes from downtown Boulder and within short reach of Eldorado canyon.

  • Excellent location, spacious quarters, well-decorated, quiet and peaceful. I didn't meet Susan in person, but our communications were easy and clear. Would definitely go back again :)

  • Our stay with Susan was an absolute pleasure! First off, Susan is a very gracious, thoughtful, warm host. When we had a minor issue with the bottled water, she remedied the situation immediately; when we were looking for things to do with our 3 yr old son (who *adored* her, by the way), she had at the ready many excellent suggestions. She was in prompt and clear communication with us prior to and during our stay. We also had a chance to see Susan's and Tom's artwork (which is fabulous, if you have a chance to peek!). She just made us feel incredibly comfortable and welcomed. We were all a little sad to leave!

With regard to the space, the photos don't do it justice. It is cozy, inviting and just lovely. The bed is super comfy and I slept like a log. The location can't be beat. In addition to being ridiculously convenient, it is gorgeous. I whole-heartedly recommend staying here if you are in the area.

  • Susan's "blacksmith shop" was charming, clean and comfortable. She was available whenneeded but in no way intrusive. The cabin is in a beautiful rural setting only a few minutes from Boulder and about 30 minutes from Estes Park.
Definitely a cozy and convenient place to stay for a mountain vacation

  • This was a last minute arrangement and we were so very pleased. The Blacksmith Shop is charming and cozy. The artful touches added to the handcrafted theme which prevails. We were very satisfied with our stay here and enjoyed the assortment of goodies left for us.

  • Susan and Tom were very welcoming and the reinvented Blacksmith Shop was great! We had a cozy time in the quaint space drinking tea, eating the treats Susan left, and also chatting and reading on the comfy furniture! We would recommend this place to anyone!

  • Loved staying at Susan's place, we're just sorry it was only for one night! It was plenty warm when we arrived, and it provided much more space than we expected. The pictures really didn't do it justice, very quaint and cozy place. Thanks Susan!

I am a self employed artist and have lived in this area since 1991, with my husband, Tom, who is a ceramic artist, teacher, and a musician. We raised our two sons here. I have done a lot of traveling and enjoy meeting people from all over. One of the most memorable experiences of my life was when I lived in Italy for close to a year while I was in college in the early '70's. Part of the time I lived with an Italian family in Tuscany whom I adored. I hope to return there someday. I enjoy being active in the outdoors and at the gym, cooking fun and healthy foods, growing a vegetables and herbs, and many other pursuits. I love to read all kinds of books, including novels, non-fiction and cookbooks. One of my favorite books is The Infinite Plan, by Isabel Allende. We have had visits in our home with many guests from all over through the years, and it has been good times. I have learned to be open to having adventures and being spontaneous. Some of my most memorable times have not involved much planning or expense.
