About this listing
A unique and restful retreat, nestled between heaven and heaven. Beautiful views, especially from the bedroom window.
Located on our property in the historic Eldorado Springs Valley is an authentic 19th century blacksmith shop which we have remodeled it into a unique getaway. Just minutes south of Boulder, you will find gorgeous views and nature surrounding you, from horses in the pasture next door to the local wildlife, such as deer, fox, and owl.
This special place has its own unique character and all the comforts of home. It is private, spacious (675 sq. ft.) and very quiet at night. You can see the stars.
The bedroom has a picture window with a stunning view, queen pillow top bed, and a beautiful sliding barn door. The entire place is recent construction that I continue to add to and embellish with art and color.
There are two living areas, one by the entrance and another next to the kitchen. There is a full size Ikea sleeper sofa in the front living area next to the bedroom. Other amenities include a skylight, kitchen with all the essentials, TV and DVD player, internet access, and a small patio area and parking right in front. The natural light inside is beautiful.
A fantastic trail system is about a half mile away, heading west on Eldorado Springs Drive, which you can drive or walk to. Enjoy hiking, running, mountain biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, depending on the season. Two miles up the road from here is Eldorado Canyon, featuring Eldorado State Park, where hiking, world class rock climbing and scenic vistas happen. Also located in the canyon is the Eldorado Springs Pool, a wonderful artesian spring fed pool, so refreshing and fun in the summertime. Downtown Boulder seems a world away, although it is actually a 5-10 minute drive. There are bike paths all the way into town.
Also, we have other listings, the Enchanting Eldorado Valley Abode and the Eldorado Valley Artist Cabin.
There is food shopping close by, King Soopers is about five minutes away, and Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and many other markets are a short drive. At our intersection, a mile away is the Eldorado Corner Market, a gas station/convenience store and a liquor store.
We are both artists and our home and studio are on the property. Feel free to come by the house anytime during your stay to chat and visit. We know a lot about the area and can help with ideas about things to do. We'd love to have you as our guests!
Interaction with Guests

Other Things to Note
Please have your itinerary with the address and directions; GPS will not take you to the blacksmith shop. Also note that check in is 3 pm and check out is 11am.
To contact me before or during your travels, please message on this website, or call the 303 number. Please do not enter the gate by the mailbox; continue on Eldorado Springs Drive and turn right onto Prado Drive, then take the second right onto the driveway. The driveway is circular with a large tree in the middle. Parking is directly in front of the blacksmith shop. There are two 'apartments' in the building (they don't share a wall); the blacksmith shop is the one on the left, nearest to the driveway. Remove shoes inside by the front door if it's wet or muddy out. 10 pm to 7 am are quiet hours. Please ask about having guests over.
No smoking. Help yourself to any food in the fridge or pantry shelves. Kindly leave the guest house clean. Dogs can be allowed upon approval, and must be with their human companions and not left alone in the blacksmith shop. Writing a review is greatly appreciated! Let me know if you have any questions and suggestions; I want my guests to be comfortable and happy.
My stay at the renovated blacksmith shop was amazing with my wonderful wife Connie. We love the closeness to the city of Boulder. And the remoteness of being right near Eldorado Canyon State Park.
We had a wonderful stay at the Blacksmith shop and Susan was extremely accommodating. We will definitely look to stay again when we are back in Boulder.
This is a great place to stay just outside of Boulder (about a 10 minute drive). We only stayed for 2 nights, but would have liked to stay an additional few days to really explore the area. Just down the street from the house is the south part of the Mesa Trail, which has great trail running and hiking. The house has beautiful window views of Eldorado Canyon, a large kitchen area with all the necessary utensils, internet access, and the photos accurately show the place. I never met Susan but she quickly responded to my emails and made it very easy to find the place and provided information about local attractions.
We loved staying at this wonderful place! Susan made our stay (and our first time in Colorado) unforgettable. We were provided with all of the necessities and incredible hospitality. Susan was quick to answer any question and helped us with directions. Follow the directions provided by Susan as a GPS will only get you close, but not to the doorstep.
Charming, folksy rental in an idyllic setting. Far enough from Boulder to feel pastoral but close to conveniences and great Indian take-out. Simply but thoughtfully appointed. The hosts were wonderful and considerate and we loved our four night stay!
We had a wonderful time in Colorado and at our stay in the Old Blacksmith Shop. The hosts, Susan and Thom were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the peacefulness of the surroundings on the property. It was conveniently located to all of our needs from Colorado Springs up to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We actually did more in the Boulder area than we were expecting. We highly recommend staying at the Old Blacksmith Shop.

About the Host, Susan
I am a self employed artist and have lived in this beautiful valley since 1991, with my husband, Tom, who is a ceramic artist, teacher, and a musician.
In the past, we spent a lot of time on the road, doing art shows with our two sons, who grew up here.
I have done a lot of traveling and enjoy meeting people from all over. One of the most memorable experiences of my life was when I lived in Italy for close to a year while I was in college in the early '70's. Part of the time I lived with an Italian family in Tuscany whom I adored. I would love to return there someday.
I enjoy being active in the outdoors and at the gym, cooking fun and healthy foods, growing vegetables and herbs, and learning new skills. I love to read and collect all kinds of books, including novels, non-fiction and cookbooks. One of my favorite books is The Infinite Plan, by Isabel Allende.
We have had visits in our home with many guests from all over through the years, and it has been good times. I have learned to be open to having adventures and being spontaneous. My most memorable times have not involved much planning or expense.
