Love to be surrounded by nature - just a few miles from an active volcano? Our cozy, peaceful, rain forest guest cottage offers privacy, comfort and a one of a kind stay. Lush and relaxing and perfectly located in paradise.

The space

This charming and private bedroom/bathroom studio cottage sits 60 feet from the main house on our 3 acres of beautiful rain forest.

The studio cottage includes a very comfortable queen bed, fan, UV filtered rain water, and hot showers, towels, bed linens, drinking water, soap, shampoo, blow dryer, etc. If your vacation plans include cooking your own meals, kitchen privileges at the "big" house are available. If you enjoy doing laundry on your vacation - we have state of the art washer and dryer available (and bio-degradable laundry detergent). Our temperatures are cool at night and pleasant during the day. The rain forest includes fresh clean air, lots of lush tropical foliage, beautiful anthuriums, hapu`u ferns, birds, crickets, and coqui frog - we enjoy their singing - and they are not too numerous. Star filled nights are also a bonus.

Must love dogs goes without saying when staying at our house. They are our fur kids and family. Our pack has grown to include 4 dogs and 2 cats. They roam our property freely as do our guests. We have two very friendly mixed black labs, Miles and Ranger. We found them wandering near our home in fall of 2011 when they were 8 weeks old. We also have two cats, Xyla and Bruce. Xyla we found on the rain forest trail and Bruce, our daughter "loaned us" from Honolulu. In February of 2014 we added a new member to our pack, Lavender. A whippet/pit mix. She's a sweetheart. We adopted her from Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary. In June 2014 - we added Hank, a lab/shepherd mix. Brian would see him occasionally when he took the country road to work. After seeing the abandoned dog on and off for about 6 weeks - Brian was finally able to make that special connection. Hank got close enough to be pet, and has wanted to be pet ever since!

Lazy Acres Golf, Grog, & Sliders Club (as we affectionately refer to our oasis) has no neighbors on the right side of us for 3 lots and none on the left side of us for 3 lots. Very private. Very quiet and peaceful. We are located 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park, historic Volcano Village, Volcano Arts Gallery, and Thai Thai restaurant. We are 23 miles from Hilo, about a 75 minute drive to Mauna Kea's summit and a 2 hour drive to the beautiful Kohala Coast. We believe the best type of vacation to the big island involves staying on both sides to avoid lots of driving. We spend a lot of time hiking at the Volcanoes Park. We know this area very well and have maps, pictures, stories, etc to help you get the most out of your stay.

Nearby public transit is 3 miles down our country road. We do not use public transit on the Big Island but several people do.

Our home is a joy in progress. Our water supply is from our 12,000 gallon catchment tank. We use propane fuel to heat our water and for our oven. Our current projects include clearing a driveway on our recently purchased 3 acre lot (done!), constructing a pono pavillion and rec center on this new property, finishing construction of our new carport (done!), constructing a hammock haven (done!), remodeling our bathroom (haven't started yet), new counter top in our kitchen, constant maintenance, and yard work.

We are geo-cachers and adventurers. We thrive in the rain forest where we do things pono, embracing nature and the aloha spirit.

Guest access

Guests have access to the decks on the main house, A`a Casbah, Hammock Haven, Ohia Oasis, kitchen, our lovely and always heated spa, and are free to roam the property.

Interaction with guests

We are as available to our guests as they want us to be. We respect one another's privacy and also enjoy each other's company. We work full time and are not on property during the day unless it's our day off.

Other things to note

As part of our "pay it forward" practices, we donate $5.00 of every night's stay to Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary. This is a beautiful "no kill" animal shelter in Kurtistown, HI. (about 7 miles from us). We adopted Lavender from these fabulous folks. We are thankful for the 137 nights booked in 2016 and the $57.00 in loose change. We donated $742.00 to Rainbow Friends in 2016! Thank you, guests!!

The nights are cool and the stars bright. It is the rainforest and you can expect it will rain. Be sure and pack your rain gear when heading our way. When the sun shines, look for rainbows!

After a day of trekking down and across hot barren crater floors and back up in the Volcano Nat'l Park, Lazy Acres is a great respite in the rain forest. Chirping frogs and other night critters serenade you to sleep in the cool mountain air and resident dogs, Lavender, Ranger, and Miles (Hank is too shy)wait nearby in the morning, wondering when these people will get up. We chose this place because of the picture of this cute little cottage set back on the property and because it was reasonably priced, but found it was soon much more because of the hospitality, graciousness, and culinary skills of Brian and Lily (yes, they may cook you breakfast!!). You'll have so much fun staying here.

Magical people, magical place! Lily and Brian are exceptional hosts, as others have already written. We feel very lucky to have stayed on their unique and peaceful property, and to have enjoyed the company of their furry family! Hot tub was a primo touch as well. :)

Where to begin... Lazy acres was my home away from home. I'm in LOVE with Lazy Acres. This is hands down the BEST airbnb i have/will ever stay in. No other place will compare to Lily and Brian's peaceful sanctuary. (Q the Sinead O'connor - Nothing compares to you music, LOL) I was in heaven with Ranger, Miles, Hank, Lavender, Bruce and Xyla. These furry kids were lovely to be around and i miss them all for different reasons. If you love to be around lovely, friendly and caring people, stay here. If your an animal person, stay here. If you love nature, stay here. If you love hot tubbin under the stars, stay here. If you love to have the frogs sing you to sleep every night, stay here. (who needs a nature app to lull you to sleep when you can have the real thing). There are so many spots to explore and chill at on the property. Brian was the best tour guide and Hawaiian teacher. I learned so much about Hawaii, thank you. I caught a cold while on vacation (who gets sick in Hawaii, lol) and Lily was so lovely and gave me cough drops and some cold and immune booster stuff. I honestly felt like i was staying with long lost family and I'm so grateful for the experience and friendship/family that i have gained. I would not think twice about going back to Lazy acres. I seriously would book another trip back to Hawaii based on staying there again. Ohhh and the breakfasts. Lily's french toast and Brian's omelettes were the BEST I've ever had. The food was always awesome and the porch filled with coffee and tea was superb. The bed was big and tons of pillows. The cottage was so cozy and filled with everything you need. Basically I want to move in now, lol. I honestly cannot say enough things about these guys and this place. It's a magical spot with lovely people.... what more could you ask for!!! Thank you guys sooooo much. I will be back again one day. Miss you already!!! Ranger, i wanna see those toys. ;) xoxo...

This is pretty much the best Air B&B of all time.... if you love puppies! It's super close to Volcanoes Natl Park and the town of Volcano... The hot tub is awesome, it's such a cool vibe and Lily goes WAY out of her way to make you feel welcome and at home... Our only regret is that we didn't make this home base for our entire trip to the big island... the bungalow is super private and away from the main house but close enough to run out and get some quick doggie hugs and kisses... Blown away how awesome this place was!

We enjoy gardening, adventures, and people. We love our rescue pets, each other and our simplified lifestyle. The motto for Lily's life is, "love has never failed me". At lazy acres - we embrace relaxation. Brian loves home projects, his big scooter, and sharing his adventurous spirit with others. Lily loves cooking, writing, reading, and hiking. Together we celebrate our life after kids - and are thankful we found each other. We are laid back and easy going. We look forward to meeting each new guest and hope to make their stay as pleasant as possible.
