About this listing
A 1600 sq ft top floor modern loft in a historic mansion, above CellarDoor restaurant & craft cocktail lounge, built pre-1850, open floor plan, brand new private balcony, new appliances, walk to the French Quarter, grocery, Superdome, Smoothie King Arena.
The Swoop-Duggins House (916 Lafayette Street) is located in part of the Upper Central Business District's Historic District, as well as the local Lafayette Square Historic District. At the end of the eighteenth century, the boundaries of New Orleans expanded upriver from the Vieux Carré (French Quarter) when the land owned by Don Bertrand and Madame Gravier was divided into streets and city blocks by the Spanish Royal Surveyor, Carlos Trudeau.
The Swoop-Duggins House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Upper Central Business District Historic District on August 10, 1990, and was most likely built around or before 1850. The house is a restored three-story, three-bay, brick house with an attached two-story service wing; the loft is on the top floor and has it's own private entrance.
My wife and I have spend the last 5 years of our lives resorting the very important and iconic building back to it's original grandeur.
On the first floor you'll have access to CellarDoor, a restaurant and craft cocktail lounge that my wife and I own and operate. Our cuisine focuses on the lighter side of cajun food, and our cocktails are strictly the very best classics.
Interaction with guests
We always make an effort to meet our guest, and we usually do.
The neighborhood is incredible; downtown New Orleans is truly the most burgeoning neighborhood in the whole city. Enjoy free concerts in beautiful Lafayette Square Park just three blocks away, every Wednesday from Sept. 11 - Oct 30th and March - May.
You are in walking distance to the Superdome, the French Quarter, Harrah's Casino, and The Riverwalk. A few of my favorite restaurants/bars in walking distance are of course, CellarDoor (which is on the 1st floor; just take the alleyway entrance), Juan's Flying Burrito, and Johnny Sanchez. Additionally, the nicest grocery store in the city is just a block away at the corner of Girod St and Baronne St.
The newly restored Civc Theater has just partnered with Bowery Presents, and has tons of great concerts all year long just a block away.
The Swoop-Duggins House is located conveniently 3 blocks from the Amtrak Station, and there are 2 different street car lines within 3 blocks of the loft in each direction (one line heads uptown, and one line heads towards the French Quarter. But the fact that you're just a few blocks walk from the French Quarter is by far the best attribute to this loft.
Absolutely no smoking cigarets or cigars indoors. No parties.

Hello. Rachel and I were both born and raised in New Orleans, LA. We love live music, traveling, crawfish boils, the New Orleans Saints, contemporary art, tennis, triathlons, jogging in Audubon Park, reading, films, and coffee.
I (Greg) have moved around a bit, with stints in London, Denver, and Pittsburgh. You'll see lots of contemporary art throughout the place if you end up staying. I went to school both here and in London, which I think has helped to shape me into the person I am today. We're married, have a 3 year old son, and a have a dog named Madam who was rescued from the Louisiana SPCA.
Three years ago we opened CellarDoor, which is located on the 1st floor of the Swoop-Duggins House (the loft is on the top floor.) CellarDoor is a beautiful small plates restaurant and romantic craft cocktail lounge that we're sure you'll love if you stay at our place.
